I've been on other boards where people feel the same way about the Big XII. It gets more consistent venom than any other conference.

It's because of you

Boards where I don't post.

They sense it.

Yes I'm sure all internet posters have that sixth sense.

Maybe I misunderstood, and the person meant "extra-shitty posting"

Frankly I'd agree with Dama here, and I'm not a fan of any Big 12 team. People take shots at the Big 12 every chance they get and exagerrate how bad the teams are. I've also seen people defend some way shittier Pac-10 conferences in the past.

Well I'm not the only one that notices it obviously.

VT has a shot at being undefeated, but as I said above, I don't think it'll happen. This team is certainly better than the typical go 6-0 and fade in November teams they had every year between Vick and last year, but Miami (and probably Virginia) in particular will have gotten too good by the end of the season for Tech to go 2-0 in those. They have about as easy a conference schedule as you can get in the ACC, but I think it's still going to be too much for an undefeated run.

I really hope this season ends with only two undefeated teams (from major conferences, I couldn't care less if there's an undefeated team ranked in the 20s or something like that), and we get a title game for an undisputed champion. Although I'm sure if that happens, there will be people complaining that some one-loss team should be in the championship game and how unfair the system is and so on.

I highly doubt that. No one complained about Miami/Ohio State a few years ago, in fact the BCS got a lot of undeserving praise for managing to match-up the only two undefeated, major conference teams like it was some major accomplishment. Imagine if they hadn't matched those two up?

Found the first Harris Poll on CFN. The page formatting is a little off, but here's how it shakes out:

1. USC

2. Texas

3. Virginia Tech

4. Florida

5. LSU

6. Florida State

7. Georgia

8. Ohio State

9. Miami

10. Michigan State

11. California

12. Tennessee

13. Notre Dame

14. Arizona State

15. Alabama

16. Texas Tech

17. Wisconsin

18. UCLA

19. Virginia

20. Minnesota

21. Boston College

22. Purdue

23. Iowa State

24. Louisville

25. Michigan

OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES

Georgia Tech 206, Penn State 154, West Virginia 132, Auburn 93, Texas A&M 93, Oregon 80, Vanderbilt 47, Clemson 39, Washington State 21, TCU 18, UTEP 17, South Florida 14, Illinois 13, Nebraska 11, Arizona 10, Iowa 7, Fresno State 6, Bowling Green 5, Idaho 5, Kansas State 3, Syracuse 3, Toledo 3, Southern Miss 2, UAB 1, Wyoming 1

So, really, same as it ever was, with a few weird-lite placements and probably a bit too much faith in Michigan and Louisville at this juncture.

Which is the one time out of how many the BCS got it right.

Really, what has killed the BCS' image all these years is that each time there is a controversial number 2 team, it gets blown out. There would be a lot less complianing if Oklahoma lost that game 28-27.

As far as the Big East's automatic bid goes, it's still not likely to go away. The extra game is added for 2006, which will increase access for mid-majors and big-name teams that can't win their conference. There is criteria in place for evaluation and, guess what, last year the Big East met the standards - the highest ranked team was higher than that from the Big Ten, and overall BCS score was higher than the SEC. Plus, the Big East keeps the majority of teams as BCS teams. Take away those teams and then the BCS is a minority, and thus becomes much harder for it to defend itself.

As far as Louisville, it's one game. From what I saw in the highlights, it looks like South Florida basically threw every trick play they could think of at Louisville, and it worked, and lucked out in Louisville shooting itself in the foot in the red zone. Better that they had this happen to a conference opponent than non-conference.

Looking over Michigan's schedule, 6-5 or 7-4 is a very real possibility this year. I think Michigan State has an excellent shot of winning in East Lansing next Saturday, and they've still got Minnesota, Iowa, and Ohio State left to play, granted 2 of the 3 are at home.

I dont see how Leinart doesn't do at least as well as last season but I could see some voters getting tired of USC winning everything and not pick him for the Heisman. Barring injury he will definitely be in NYC for the ceremony. Reggie Bush looked stupidly good yesterday as well. I really cant believe some of the things he does. Laurence Maroney was incredibly impressive as well in the win over Purdue. I would put money on those three being there for sure.

Vince Young, Reggie McNeal, Chris Leak, Sam Keller, Brady Quinn and Drew Stanton need to win some games and not make horrible mistakes. Theyre all great QB's and it would be hard to pick one out of the six. Im sure a few of them will have horrible games though and knock em out of the running.

Oregon State's Mike Hass need to be getting some recognition too. He has 670 yds 3 tds through 4 games while averaging something like 168 yds per game. Last year he had 1379 yds.

Oh my god! The national championship's going to be decided partially by a poll where Idaho got five points! 0-4 Idaho! Idaho that got shut out by Hawaii at home last week. This is the WORST POLL EVER!

Honestly, I just can't believe some of the votes there. It's like the commercial they had for that video game a few years ago, where the voters have the giant dartboard with 117 teams, and they just vote for whichever one the dart hits. CFN may not have the most accurate rankings from 1-25, but from 1-119, they're about as good as they come, and they have Idaho ranked at 105.

Supposedly, every voter's vote will be public in the Harris Poll, so I think they just need to find the people who voted for winless Idaho, find the people who voted for winless Syracuse, find the people who voted for 1-2 Arizona, and revoke their votes immediately.

As much as I would love to see the goofy voting - like Idaho - be used to help get rid of the BCS, it's ultimately irrelevant. The BCS has said for a long time that its goal is to place #1 and #2. Right now, the Harris poll has USC #1 and Texas #2, which most people aren't going to gripe about right now. In the whole scheme of things, it doesn't matter if a team like Idaho receives a few votes, gets placed #6, or is placed #106. All that matters is its contribuation to matching up the #1 team and #2 team.

We'll know how good Nebraska's defense is in a few weeks when Texas Tech visits them.

I forgot all about that game...man they're fucked...of course Iowa State is coming this Saturday, and even though they're no juggernaut, Nebraska better come up with an offensive scheme that works QUICKLY!

No your rankings are.

I assume this is just a little cute snappy retort, based on absolutely nothing other than the fact that you know I rank college football teams.

However, I challenge you to look through my rankings and find anything remotely as anamolous as ranking a team that doesn't belong in the top 100 in the Top 25 or Top 50 if you look at the poll as a whole. In fact, I challenge you to find anything wrong with them, other than teams being adjusted three or four spots based on subjective opinion.

I swear to god they're better than any of the three major polls, or the rankings that CFN does.

Oh, and for the record, my rankings aren't a poll since they're made up of one person's opinion rather than that of multiple people.
