I still think that EWR 4.2 was the best that this series got. Much easier/less complicated and it wasn't so overly feature-heavy that it takes you forever just to do one little thing.

Agreed. I still play the shit out of EWR 4.2. TEW is nice but too involved. I also don't like how the game doesn't come with the real wrestlers/promotions. If I was to pay 35 bucks for this, I'd expect them to at least have the decency to have the database ready.

I can understand not having 'real' rosters, since they're charging for the software and they can't really be making money off of other peoples copyrights. It would be nice if there were a "free patch" that you could import with all of the real rosters after the fact, though.

I don't get how people can say EWR is in any way superior to TEW. Loading times weren't a major downgrade from EWR to TEW, and almost every feature from EWR was IN TEW. It's not like EWR was easy to navigate, it was cumbersome and awkward in many places.

 

From playing the demo, it pretty much smokes all other EW made. The load times are sharp, the AI is superior, and theres many options to fuck with. Only problems is Ryland has a habit of spreading shit out more then it needs to, and just LOOKING at the Storyline editor made my brain bleed.

 

I honestly think if you prefer EWR, it's the cost factor...which is still a pretty lame excuse.

You just used a gigantic overstatement to prove a point. How much did you actually PLAY TEW before you came to your conclusion?

 

EWR's match setup was messed up, with having multiple steps for everything to set up one match. In TEW, I can set up an entire match in ONE screen. Wow, that sure takes 50 hours. I can get a 80 to 90% show out of TEW in ten minutes with upwards to FIFTEEN segments, and I'm on the low end of the scale. So don't even try "It takes forever to do a show!" because I know it doesn't.

 

And furthermore, how did I determine why you prefer TEW? That doesn't even make any sense. I mentioned why TEW is SUPERIOR, so I fail to even comprehend what your talking about.

 

But fine, without even mentioning the cost...give me some real reasons why EWR is better. I'd be glad to hear them, since EWR held up worse then EWD did, which I might add, is still fun.

I bought TEW. Had it for a year. I think I know what TEW is all about. Like I said, it is a very good game, but it's too involved. Not many people are willing to put that much effort in it, apparently, by the resounding consensus of the thread...

I liked TEW, but I can't see myself paying money for something that I can essentially get for free (EWR).

 

And my favorite version of EWR is 1.4. Too bad I can't find it anywhere.

I'm sorry, but that's a ridiculous statement! It has nothing to do with "decency", it has to do with the fact that if we included WWE trademarked wrestlers in the game they'd take legal action against us and we'd be sued out of existence!

Having played it more, I've really got no idea how to progress the storyline bit. Everytime I do the nearest angle to the one it says to do, it doesn't progress the storyline.

 

Any ideas?

I purchased TEW last year, and I have to say that I prefer the original data to any update that was released on the internet because of a couple reasons.

 

One is that I might get the "best" patch around, and I will be upset when some wrestler's are over rated and some are under rated. It would be easily a half an hour process to fix things to the way I like it. Meanwhile, with the original data, I don't have to do any changes to stats because these are imaginary characters that take the suspension of disbelief to a whole new level.

 

Two is that having complete and real rosters does slow the game down. 2500-3000 workers along with like 90 promotions is not the way the game was meant to be played, as that shit grinds the game down to a halt. There were many less workers with the original data, which gave developers more time to give them worthy biographies. Also, certain wrestlers mean more with original data, as with the patches you have thirty guys who are exactly the same.

 

Now, I do plan on purchasing the full version of the game later this week, even with some things that bother me about the game.

 

Pros: No more Hollyweird Grappling Company...couldn't stand the name of that place. It is now Total Championship Wrestling and is run by the best in the game, Tommy Cornell.

 

More emphasis was placed upon making someone with sports enterntainment skills more valuable.

 

Mid Atlantic Wrestling is a brilliant new promotion in the game that is about teaching young wrestles how to work, and also brings back the element of territories.

 

The cards that the computer puts up for their tv shows and PPVs make sense this time. There are no more six man tags headlining PPVs every month. The heavy hitters do the money making this time around.

 

Pistol Pete Hall is wrestling...

 

I like micro-management.

 

The auto-fill function that gets rid of typing makes the game faster and puts a smile on your face.

 

Cons: When putting on a filter to find a certain type of wrestler, some things cannot be filtered for.

 

I have yet to discover if people wrestle til they are sixty and in pristine working condition. Also, I have worries about a guy starting out with a pyschology level of 30% is a 90% in one calendar year. Also, seeing a guy with 20% faculties of his head can still deliver every night makes no sense at all. 20% would be at about the level that Bret Hart is at right now, stroke and all IMO. I will have to cross my fingers on this one.

 

The storyline editor makes me feel like a retarded monkey.

 

Even though a certain performer retires, they shouldn't suddenly lose all of their abilities minus psychology. This is like castrating a man, but then let him keep his testicles in a jar. "Just so you know you could do it, little trooper." I loved bringing someone out of retirement.

 

Some pictures of wrestlers are still missing, and I am sorry but if I'm about to pay thirty five dollars for this, I believe I deserve a polished product. Plus, pictures help give the guy your booking some character.

 

 

This game looks much improved though.
