Jim Ross possibly leaving RAW announce team

Earlier today, Jim Ross underwent a medical procedure to his colon in hopes of alleviating pain he has been enduring for several weeks.

 

“They found something massive in my intestines,” said J.R. in a phone conversation with WWE.com. “They don’t know what it is, but they will have to cut out part of my intestines.”

 

Ross’ surgery is scheduled to take place next week in Oklahoma. As a result, he will be hospitalized for three to five days. WWE.com will have more information on J.R. as it becomes available

 

 

One can only hope that it isn't cancer; but I think that's almost out of the question.

If JR's illness and the "firing" on TV are merely a coincidence, then this post is moot, but if they did that retarded angle to write him out of storylines, knowing he'd be out because of his condition, then that's just stupid.

 

Why do they feel the need to make a work out of the situation? When he had to take a leave in '99, they were honest about why he was gone (although the angle on his return was dumb). Seriously, in this case, if they knew he'd be taking time off to get this checked out and (hopefully) taken care of, why not just say that instead of humiliating him on TV in an angle?

Exactly. The whole thing was totally unneccessary. They would have gotten a much better result if they had JR get on the mic and just tell the audience what was going on, but nooooo, why not turn the damn thing into a write-off storyline?

Since the firing of Jim Ross on Monday, WWE has received more than 1,000 e-mails and phone calls from fans. The following is a small sampling:

Comments: Bring back JR. The way he was treated was awful. To treat the best wrestling announcer ever in such a manner after so many years of dedicated service is beyond reasonable to me. I have been following the organization since the the 60's and this is one of the worst things I have seen yet. Until JR is back you have lost one Raw viewer who felt in the past it was must watch TV.

Comments: I'd just like to say that I sincerely hope that what happened on Raw with Jim Ross was not the last appearance he'll make on WWE TV.  Aside from how terrible it would be to not honor JR the way he deserves if he was really leaving, I cannot even begin to imagine turning into Raw and not hearing JR do the commentary.  I'm sure millions of WWE fans feel the same way, and we all hope that he'll be back in his chair on Raw as soon as possible.

It upsets me that they can release a man who has been so dedicated to the business and who puts more emotion than anyone ever could into calling a match. Raw is not Raw without Jim Ross. Wrestlemania is not Wrestlemania without Jim Ross. The WWE is not the WWE without Jim Ross. And I will not be viewing your programs without Jim Ross.

Comments: I've recently heard that Jim Ross may be replaced on the announcing team for RAW. If this happens it will be one of the absolute most worst decisions WWE could ever make. I happen to feel that Ross is the most entertaining announcer in the company, and he is certainly the most talented. Nobody could ever take his place, and moving him off the show would dramatically lower the quality of RAW, and give me one less reason to watch every week.

Comments: I have loyally been a fan of the WWE since I was 6 years old.  When Hall and Nash jumped to WCW and put on pay-per views featuring the nWo, the 4 Horsemen, and let cruiserweight actually compete, I still made my dad order the WWE pay per views.  But now that you have removed Jim Ross from RAW, I am vowing to no longer watch WWE programming.

Comments: I have watched your programming for over 10 years - Raw, Heat, SmackDown, etc and most of the PPVs. I can't tell you how disappointed I am with Jim Ross being terminated. Surprisingly enough, it probably will affect my future decisions to watch Monday Night Raw. His insight, knowledge of the business, and overall professional nature has made watching RAW these past 6 years a pleasure. If the WWE wants to promote a younger announcer with limited experience of the business, so be it, but Jim Ross deserves that spot.

Comments: I do realize that if you must get rid of J.R., you must. It's a fact of life that he couldn't be the Play-by-play announcer forever.  But getting rid of him like that was just distasteful and makes his departure seem like an angle instead of something legitimate.  I hope whoever you get to replace "Good Old J.R." is good, because my enjoyment will depend on it.

Comments: I am usually very tolerant of your storylines and I realize there are usually up and downs with my favorite personalities. However, I felt compelled to write after watching this week's RAW featuring the firing of Jim Ross. Truth be told, J.R. is as much a reason for me watching RAW as any of the other Superstars. I really hope this is simply part of a larger storyline and that J.R. will return to the broadcast table soon. I have faithfully watched you for just about 20 years, I do not know if I want to watch RAW without J.R. So, again I hope it will not come to that, but I honestly can't consider it RAW without J.R. and I don't know if I would even want to tune in. So, here's hoping Mr. Ross returns to his job soon. I will continue to tune in until I know what the outcome is, but I hope it will not be left like this.

Comments: I have never e-mailed you before. I watch RAW every Monday and if I am unable to watch it, I tape it. I order every RAW pay-per-view. I have been a long time fan of the WWE. But with the firing of Jim Ross last Monday, I don't know if I will ever watch it again. Jim Ross was an excellent commentator and loved the sport. You could tell that in his voice. There was no reason to fire him or take him off the show and it upset me greatly.

That was the only thing I picked up, apart from everybody threatening to stop watching because JR wasn't commentating. (Someone who orders all the RAW PPVs might not watch it again because he isn't talking? Fan loyalty lives on.)

I can think of a few reasons why they'd post it.

 

1. JR getting fired on TV is a work, or rather a re-work, where they are posting legit feedback to prove that they worked the fans for once. Though it really isn't a work unless Dave Meltzer is in on the work as well, so it's more like the WWE going "Well, we were going to fire JR, but we have no one to replace him with, so lets make this an angle now".

 

2. The emails are either worked or legit, JR getting fired is a work, and this is just putting "heat" on the WWE -or rather the McMahons- for firing JR. I say the emails may be worked because they are, in a round-about way, mostly complementary to the WWE. Who would ever call WWE programming in 2005 "must watch"?

 

3. JR really is fired and they are putting negative fan mail up to damage the company.

I can't stand JR and am all for him being replaced (by someone better). I don't even think I've even commented on the subject directly, but rather, talked about Mike Goldbergs involvement instead. I don't watch WWE programming because it's boring and I am completely disinterested in it, not because JR is off the show.

 

If the WWE intends on bringing JR back, then the fans who think JR is really fired are being worked. Those fans, however, are most likely writing as people who have read newsreports from guys like Meltzer who are saying that JR is being removed from the announce position, rather than just going on what happened Monday Night. It is so rare that the WWE can actually work its fans -particularly the internet faithful- that they can't resist posting the feedback.

I think the WWE covered it's bases, especially now that Mike Goldberg is staying with UFC.

 

I think Ross was going to be replaced. Remember, if Mike Goldberg would've signed, they wouldn't have even done an angle to get Ross out, they were just going to debut Mike Goldberg cold. With the news that Goldberg is out, they decided to make an angle.

 

If whoever comes in this monday be it Josh Matthews, TCS, Michael Cole, Joey Styles, whoever the fuck, comes in and does a good job or a good job in Vince's eyes, then JR stays fired both in storyline and real life.

 

If whoever they bring in as a replacement sucks, then they have the angle in place to bring JR back.

 

Again, WWE covered it's bases in light of Mike Goldberg not accepting their offer.
