Dream Match: Vader vs. Brock

Recommended Posts

Guest Jack Potts

I'm not really familiar with the Japanese promotions, so I'm relying on your collective knowledge, but with Lesnar and Vader both wrestling in the Land of the Rising Sun, is there a possibility they could end up facing one another?

I think that would be a stiff, power matchup between two of the best big men in the business. Although Vader's a little long in the tooth, I think he's still seen as a credible monster. With powerbombs and "Verdicts" left and right, these two could literally, and figuratively, tear the place down.

What do you think?

Vader from 10 years ago would have kicked copious kinds of ass - but today

well it'd still be a stiff, hard match just not as stellar as it could have been

and I'm not sure who Vader is working for - NOAH? AJPW?

I haven't seen Vader since his brief run in TNA where he was immensely out of shape. I didn't even know he was still wrestling.

You're probably right, but I think Vader could still put together a solid match, and get in shape for a match with Lesnar. Brock might even show Vader a certain amount of deference, given Vader's pro football background and in-ring reputation.

When the announcement of the Vader action figure came out, I posted a question on the WWE forum about whether we might ever see a wrestler in the Vader mold again. A poster responded that "the man in (my) sig" was the closest thing. I guess I have to agree, which is why I think a match between the two would still be an awesome thing, even now.

It might be a spectacle, but watching Vader these days is just sad compared to what he used to be able to do. I think if it were condensed into ten minutes it might still produce some nice standoffs, but they risk making the new IWGP champion look somewhat weak if he doesn't just obliterate such broken-down workers.

I think I heard Vader/Rhino is gonna happen soon on some Indy show, wonder if that will be any good?

I think I'd like to see Abyss come a bit further before he started working big matches like that, but I'd like to see it at some stage.

Also, if anyone's seen Brock's IWGP victory, was he any good? The same? Better? Worse?

I saw the match and he didn't do anything really special. Both Fujita and Chono basically bumped for Brock most of the match. I think he did a couple of suplexes maybe, tops, he did his shoulder ramming thingie on the corner, F5s for everyone (oops, sorry... Veredicts), pin, new Champ. Nine minutes tops and totally unimpressive for me. I'm a fan of his and I think maybe since it was his first match in a long while it may have been a bit off. Hopefully he'll be able to work off his ring rust soon and deliver more.

I Saw Awesome/Vader vs Samoa Joe/Dan Maff........I'm a fan of all of the men in the match except Awesome....and it is one of the worst matches I've ever seen in my life. I think it was from 2002-2003. I've also seen a dvd advertised on highspots with a DDT match involving Vader that i'll probably check out.

Anyways....I'd personally love to see the match, but who knows if it could happen.

The last time Vader's made a mainstream puroresu appearance was in AJPW earlier this year against Kohei Suwama. He was on a DDT show a couple of months ago and I can't think of anything he's done since.

*reads title*

But the real question is... have Brock's Jedi skills progressed far enough for him to take on the Dark Lord of the Sith and win? I mean really, the "Verdict" is powerful and all... but it pales in comparison to the power of the Dark side.

:D

Lesnar- Joe.

That's where the money is.

I've never seen Samoa Joe perform, but I've heard a lot about him. Should I get the TNA PPV this weekend to see his match against Liger?

Liger isn't the normal challenger for Joe, considering Joe doesn't always work with Juniors but Joe seems to work with anyone. It likely won't be the best display of Joe, for that you should seek his work with Punk or Aries, and in a few weeks, Kenta Kobashi to get a full idea of what Samoa Joe is and why he's the best worker in North America today.

Yes, get the PPV. It's only 29.99.

Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg is money in the bank.

The world's begging for another one?

I think Lesnar vs. Goldberg II, done right, could be something really special. If it was built correctly, and it was made clear ahead of time that both guys would be going all out and just beating the shit out of each other, it would work.

I agree that if these two were allowed to do what they can do (people need to end this supposed "Goldberg couldn't work" mentality, because it's simply not true. He just wasn't allowed to most of the time because they designed a formula that didn't allow it) It would be a pretty nifty showdown.

It could work in Japan as a battle of the Gajin's with Lesnar being the super asshole and Goldberg comes in as the respectful american who hates Lesnar's attitude.

I'm pretty sure it would draw in Japan because Goldberg hasn't really been overly exposed in Japan and Goldberg would be willing to go hard in the match.

I'm just worried that the Mania XX match left such a bad taste that people no longer have interest in it.

Event: NWA TNA PPV #33

Date: February 26, 2003

Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Arena: Nashville Fairgrounds (NWA TNA Asylum)

Main event: Vader and Dusty Rhodes defeated The Harris Brothers (Ron and Don Harris) by Disqualification.

So to be fair, in TNA he worked against two horrible workers, so you couldn't have expected much from him in that situation.

All the guys need is a little motivation, have Brock put his working boots back on and he can give Bill another positive memorable match in his career.

I have to disagree on this somewhat. Yes, that formula was WCW, but Bill had the chance to improve his skills during his WWE tenure, but simply chose not to. The only one that held Goldberg back was himself (along with Gonzo).
