Chazz Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 If a person tries passing you on a backroad or any road where there Is a posted no passing zone, and you speed up so they can't pass you, and that person ends up either wrecking his own car or slams Into another oncoming vechicle, can you be held liable as well? My friend always does this to other cars that tailgate him and then tries to pass him on backroads or no passing zones. I told him that one of these days he's going to find himself in some serious trouble If one of the above scenario's happens. He claims that since these people take It upon themselves to Illegally try to pass In posted no passing zone's, then they have nobody to blame except themselves if they wreck/and or wreck Into someone. Does anybody happen to know for sure?
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I don't know, but when I lived in Ohio I did that shit a few times to people, so I would be interested in knowing the result as well. EDIT: My guess is probably...
Corey_Lazarus Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I believe you're not held responsible at all. Especially if you, a) speed away from the scene, or b) are a good enough liar and say that you weren't speeding, they were trying to pass you, and bam. Actually, I do think that trying to outrace somebody at any point, whether or not they're illegally passing you, constitutes as drag racing, as a friend of mine got into trouble because he was being passed on a backroad, lost control, and hit a telephone pole, and when he explained the story to the cops, they called it drag racing.
spiny norman Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I don't know if it's breaking the rules of the road (except in that you're speeding), but it's certainly being a wanker, that's for sure.
the max Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Yeah it's pretty dangerous. People do it down here; They go 40 in a 60 mph zone on a one-lane stretch and then speed up when I try to pass them. One guy wouldn't let me pass, so I called the cops and gave them his plate number and said he was a drunk driver and was swerving all over the road.

MrRant Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I'd imagine you could get in trouble if you were going faster than the speed limit to keep the person from passing you. Reckless endangerment possibly.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Did you ever have anyone chase or follow you after you did that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. I only did this a few times. Most of the time I just let them pass and whenever I would meet up with them at the next red light I'd wave. One time however this fat bitch in a rice-burner tried to pass me and I tapped the pedal. I'm not a lip reader but I think she was telling me to stick my penis up my butthole. Anyway, I kept pointing and laughing at her and about a minute down the road we were behind this tractor trailer going 30 mph, which would have made her passing me a moot point. I rolled down my window, moved off to the side a bit and did a "pass me" gesture. Good times. Oh, and I'm pretty sure my death will come at the gun of someone in a fit of road rage...
MrRant Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 It'll probably be me gunning you down. Driving your hippie-wagon.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 Is an '88 Corsica or '03 Cav. a hippie wagon?...
