This Week in College Football 11/8 - 11/12

The FSU/Clemson game makes me wonder even more what the hell is up with BC and the ACC overall. The Eagles can beat Clemson on the road but get demolished in the last 6 minutes against FSU at home after leading for much of it. Now Clemson is rocking FSU at home.

The ACC is like this: you've got three elite teams (FSU being the least elite of them this season), then 8 other teams, and then Duke. At this point, pretty much any of those 8 teams can beat any of the others, and most of them can hang with the elite teams and beat them maybe once every four or five tries.

FSU beating BC seemed to be an issue of the talent gap. FSU won the first 5 and last 5 minutes of that game; they had talented enough skill players to make big plays when it counted. BC dominated the line of scrimmage, but FSU just turned it on at all the important points and got enough points up early to play sloppy for the 2nd and 3rd quarter and survive.

Why in the hell is Clemson wearing purple

That's their new home uniform this year. It was subject to a lot of ridicule in the offseason, and rightly so.

14-3 South Carolina, going in on 21-3. An absolutely pitiful effort from the Gators so far. Once again, Chris Leak has the deer in the headlights look on the field.

Goddamn, I was a coin toss away from taking them in Bored's contest. I'm sure I'd have won if I'd stuck with Cocks.

Seven wins, beating Florida, placing second in the SEC East, and probably making the Peach Bowl or better? Great first year for Spurrier if they hold on today.

I'm shocked Florida State held on this long. They have no talent or depth in the secondary and the offense is being led by a freshman who is very Chris Rix like at times.

Miami should pick them apart.

And I want Alabama and Miami to win out just so the BCS can rank the undefeated Tide in fourth and the SEC can blow a gasket.

Wilbon is right, we need a major conference to drop out of the BCS. I know the SEC doesn't have the balls, but it would be nice if they did.

That horrible FSU-Miami game very early in the season is looking bad now. No meaningful games that early in the season. Thanks.

So if South Carolina holds onto this lead today, how quick do the Fire Urban Meyer sites go up?

This is not all his fault, but he has to accept some blame for the exceptionally shitty performance so far today. He will probably get a pass since it's his first year and all that there.

The thing that confuses me the most is how everyone talked about how disciplined the Gators are now yet they’ve taken countless penalties which extend South Carolina’s drives and the penalty situation is worse than it was under Zook.

In any event, sloppy tackling and horrible coverage on Sidney Rice is what cost them this game. South Carolina just wants it more. Plain and simple.

I was going to say that but I don't want to be making excuses for a poor effort here today.

Hetland just hit a 43 yarder to pull Florida within 8 but Philadelphia Eagles Superbowl XXXIX clock management on that drive.

They might want to wait until Urban Meyer brings in his recruiting class before complaining. He's still basicaly working with Zook recruits.

Those are still for the most part 4 and 5 star recruits though. Lou Holtz didn't exactly leave the cupboard bare at South Carolina, but there's really not much talent there at all, so I don't think that's an excuse.

yes, but the players at South Carolina had Lou Holtz coaching them before he moved on. The Gators players had Ron Zook coaching them. I think its safe to say the South Carolina players were better coached before the new coaches came on-board. Gators players are still learning to break bad habits while picking up Meyer's system.

Spurrier just has to worry about keeping his team out of fights and legal trouble *L*

Wow so OU fields a great team that is up 28-7 in the first quarter and then they send out the team that lost to TCU and hang on to win 36-30.

It was like they lose interest, started turning the ball over, and then had NO FUCKING CLUE how to defend the option.

Oh well. I guess with the way this team has played this year I'll take any win. And jesus. They'd have lost this game too probably without AD. He's looking pretty big for OU right now.

It's especially embarassing when you have to hang on to beat a team you've blown out like 159-16 in their past 3 trips to Norman.

I guess it's horrible for a group of young players to get up that big that early.

And man I guess Texas is pissed that they almost lost to Kansas last year. 42-0 with 8:25 left. Vince Young is throwing the ball at will. It'd be a shame if Texas was kept out of the Rose Bowl. They're obviously very good. They haven't struggled really at all this year.

Bama up 10-0 on LSU and looking amazing on defense as always. Come on Bama, go undefeated. I love a great defense and the Tide have a great defense. If they didn't lose those offensive weapons early in the season....damn.

Texas Tech just lost to the worst team in the Big XII.

Funny thing is b/c this is the Big XII everyone says "well they aren't good."

But if this were the SEC or Big Ten then everyone would just say "Well this proves how tough the conference is."

Is OK St. really the worst in the conf though? I mean they did give Texas a battle for 3 quarters and just won vs. Tech today. As far as Texas goes, they struggled with Ohio St. but not much otherwise.

Just wondering but why would the Gator Bowl not get Va Tech? I can't really see them going to the BCS if they don't even make the conf. title game. I'd rather U of L not bother with FSU...it's already happened so it wouldn't be as big of a deal as playing Marcus Mexico.

Virginia Tech would only not go to the Gator Bowl at this point if they crack the Top 4 of the BCS (and assuming whoever #3 is won their conference) which would give them automatic bid, which they still have a shot at doing.

With Texas Tech losing today, if Colorado loses to Iowa State suddenly Oklahoma has a realistic shot at the Cotton Bowl.

LSU put together a suh-weet drive to start the 3rd quarter, put 7 on the board to snap Alabama's "no TDs given up" streak, knocked the shit out of Brodie Croyle, and now has the ball back at the Alabama 20 thanks to a nice pass to Dwayne Bowe.

Bowe knows 1st Downs!

I don't think the Cotton Bowl would take Colorado over OU. OU would fill the Cotton Bowl with fans. Colorado fans don't travel well. They were severely outnumbered by the OU fans at the Big XII title game last year.
