Eddie Special on MSNBC

Recommended Posts

Guest P-Any
Does anyone know anything about the Eddie special that MSNBC is having tonight on Rita Cosby?  Like how long it's going to be, who's going to be on it, etc?

This is the first I've heard of this.

I live on PST so it starts at 6:00 PM and the repeat is shown at 10:00 PM PST so I'm assuming for other time zones, it will be shown at later times (9:00 PM EST for example).

I'm just thankful Eddie's passing is getting some kind of coverage because I haven't seen anything on him on my local news or CNN. :(

I've been looking for coverage as well - I've seen it on the bottom scroller of all the major cable news stations, and Headline News' "Showbiz Tonight" show at 7pm nightly did a piece on him last night, and had a live interview with Vince McMahon (nothing newsworthy came from the interview, just a recap of the situation). CNN.com and SI.com also had stories about it, as did Fox News. I think the tribute tonight is actually a part of the Rita Cosby show on MSNBC.

John Bradshaw Layfield appeared on MSNBC this afternoon to discuss Eddie Guerrero's tragic passing during "MSNBC News Live". JBL joined the show via satellite from New York.

- JBL started the segment by saying, "The world lost a great man yesterday, and WWE lose one of it's best and most passionate performers".

- JBL talked briefly about the history of the Guerrero family in wrestling, and noted that Eddie Guerrero was the reason that Smackdown was the number one non-Spanish speaking program among Hispanics in the nation.

- He praised Guerrero's ability, saying it was an honor to wrestle him. JBL talked about Guerrero's ability to "feel" what the crowd wanted, and his passion for wrestling.  He then told a story of needing a police escort out of the building when he wrestled Eddie in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.

- JBL said that outside the ring, Guerrero differentiated himself from anyone he has ever met.  JBL said that when he was going through a divorce a few years ago, Guerrero "sensed" something was wrong with him, and would talk to him and point out scriptures to him.

- Bradshaw said that when he first became a main event performer, a lot of people didn't believe he could cut it, and it was Eddie Guerrero who went to "the powers in WWE" and asked them to give him a chance. JBL said he main evented for a year and a half, mostly with Eddie Guerrero,. "I owe Eddie Guerrero my entire career".

- They talked about Eddie's past addictions, with JBL noting that he was addicted to alcohol and painkillers, and that he had just celebrated his fourth year of sobriety.  JBL talked about how Guerrero got his life, finances and family back together, which added to the tragedy of his passing.  He also noted that Guerrero had just purchased a home in Phoenix that he was planning to someday retire to, and that he had also moved his mother to Phoenix as well.

- It was noted that autopsy reports were still not available.  JBL was asked if he thought drugs had anything to do with the death, and JBL said that he certainly hoped not, and there was no indication that there was at this point. JBL noted that Guerrero was found dead on the bathroom floor, and the death had to be instant, since Guerrero's toothbrush was still in his hand.  JBL said the "best guess" is that he died of a massive heart attack, but there was no official word yet.  JBL again pointed out how Guerrero had been clean and sober for four years.

- JBL ended the segment saying it was an "honor" to talk about his "friend Eddie".

MSNBC is a part of the same umbrella as USA is and Raw, being USA's key show, I wouldn't expect them to grill McMahon here.

Considering the fact WWE advertised this special on Raw as well, indicates this won't be the grilling we'd like Vince to take.

Okay, there's been a few errors but the important thing is that they gave a good overview of who he was.

The Three WWE Titles is probably attributed to his 2 WWE Tag Title Reigns (I believe there were only two) Chavo and Rey Jr.?
