Well...it's official: 50 games for first offense

Good decision.

Although, I'd prefer it like tennis does it... 1st offense: 1 year ban. 2nd offense: Life ban.

I'm glad to hear it. What's the penalty for a second offense, then?

Edit: Never mind, got it.

"Second positive test -- 100-game suspension, up from 30 days."

Amphetamines count too. At least they did the last time I checked.

I hope this helps the game go back into the days where a lead off man was an MVP candidate. One of those guys that would steal 70 bases, bat .300, drive in 60 runs, hit a few dingers, and score an amazing amount of times.

Also, I wonder if we will get more fallout from all of this. We may see more power hitters take a major dip in production. Of course, what about power pitchers being able to reach back and not find what was there previously.

Of course, I have no clue if steroids can enhance pitching performances. Can anyone explain this one way or the other?

"OK, we're going to give you a lifetime suspension... and not one of those Steve Howe lifetime suspensions either!"

How exactly does this constitute a "lifetime ban" when they are allowed to appeal it after two years?

Because it doesn't mean that they'll be allowed back in. Just if the third strike was an "error in testing" or something and the player feels that he wants to face all of the negative publicity that will come with appealing a lifetime ban.

I'm not familiar with such things, but couldn't they just test everyone at the beginning of the year and then again at the all-star break?

Yes, but if you announce the tests beforehand, you can probably guess the potential problems with the program.

Yeah, but roids stay in your system for a while after, like months. If they did it twice a year, if someone was roiding there is no way it would leave their system before the next test.
