I will admit that everyone was leery over the unstoppable surge of patching console titles as soon as they seriously got online.

 

One would think that it would be easier to develop for a console than a PC, so the patches would not be such an issue. But let's be real here, the idea is to drop your title as fast as possible so you can start earning money as fast as possible.

Word is, they're cracking down (bahaha) on people playing Halo 3 with a modded console.

 

Also, some people without console mods are being banned or otherwise not able to access XBL. This could also have something to due with XBLive having big time server issues.

Got the Beta and played a couple of games. Took forever to get into a match then got whacked pretty hard by guys who apparently have spent all day playing it and already knew where the best weapons were. The graphics looked better than what I had been led to believe, and the grenade physics seem to be pretty good (no more wildly bouncing tosses from 2). I'm encouraged.

Halo3 is so far is way better then Halo2, it would appear they've totally changed the server side coding. All the guns seem to work well now, Assault Rifle is actually worth using, and as mentioned before Grenades are alot more powerful and useful.

 

Shame the servers died a few hours ago, but it was to be expected.

Considering that the release date is four months away, I don't think Bungie has time to up the graphics and gameplay to fix all the faults. And by the way, when I was talking Halo 2.5, I was talking about the gameplay being exactly the same as well. The game will sell well irregardless, but I can see the franchise being hurt in the long run since the game is in contention for the biggest disappointment of 2007.

 

EDIT: This could end up being the 360's version of Twilight Princess. Lots of hype for a game that is "more of the same".

Sequels in blockbuster game franchises get major hype. This is because millions of people *played* and *loved* the previous games.

 

There are much more egregious examples out there, like the forthcoming Guitar Hero New Song Edition v. 2007, 2007B etc. Or Madden Roster Update 2008. Tony Hawk Even Prettier Pavement Edition.

 

Halo 3 will be a great game. However, it's a shame this wankfest is over a bunch of multiplayer demos. I hope lots of care and dedication goes into the single-player experience, because some crazy people like me might actually want to try that feature.

 

I'd be quite amused if Master Chief was in the first 20 minutes of Halo 3 and then replaced by a swishy bishonen, though.

Once again...its a beta. The game graphics aren't even in the thing. You have simplified maps and simplified effects because the didn't include the full ones in the beta. The game play will probably ALMOST remain the same but it is missing certain animations right now because once again, its a beta. Seriously, i don't care about Halo, but how in the hell is it in contention for the biggest disappointment because a early build of the online game looks like a early build of a game. Like I said, the model geometry is great right now, so I expect the game to look beautiful. I think Gears might look better because dirty maps always look better than cleaner ones. So unless Halo 3 is taking place in a wrecked dirty muddy environment, it won't look as good as Gears. But it will look incredible.
