Armageddon 6 Man Hell in a Cell

I've never seen this match for one reason or another. Is it any good? I can vaguely remember the story beforehand but as a stand alone match, is it worth checking out? I seem to recall the general view afterwards was that it was a disappointment.

It's a fun match, nothing too incredible though. It's basically just an all out brawl the entire time. There's no real rhythm or flow to it at all...just pure chaos. There have been several Hell in a Cell matches that are better, but the 6-man is definitely entertaining.

Yeah, it's never going to be remembered as the smartest match of all time, but I remember watching it and it was good fun.

 

I mean, the whole Chokeslam spot was so blatantly telegraphed you had to wonder why they did it, but over all it was fun to watch.

In comparison of other HIAC matches, it stands somewhere in the middle. Everything involving Vince and Foley is just stupid... a hay truck!?

 

While I didn't mind the finish inside with Rock, Angle, and Austin, Undertaker hanging out on top of the cell after throwing Rikishi off was just idiotic. Was he resting or something? (I believe HHH was down outside in the cell, and Rikishi was still dead). For a star rating, it would probably hover around *** depending on who you ask.

I think that it made Angle you like an even weaker champion than he had already been made out to look. They made him look like HTM for God's sake!

I just feel that having him sneak in after somebody else had done the work for him made him look weak. Sure, it's a smart move but I don't think they managed to make Angle a credible champion during his run. Not only that but he was stunnered by Austin right after the win. I feel the same way about the Survivor Series match with Undertaker. It was smart but made him look like he couldn't beat the guy on his own. Just my opinion.

I was completely shocked Angle retained. Considering his other opponents were Stone Cold, The Rock, HHH, and The Undertaker, I'd figure one of them was going to win it just like every other fan. WWE really got me that time!

This was enjoyable enough, and I really think they should bring back the concept annually for Armaggedon in an attempt to boost interest for the PPV. Like others have said, it is tends to show up in the middle of the pack as far as Hell in a Cell matches go. I like HBK/Taker, HHH/Cactus, Brock/Taker & HHH/Batista better than it, but the 6-Man would probably be the next best after those four.

They do that with champions they're not intending to build around. It's stupid, because it makes the champion, and the title, look weak, but that's how they work.

I love the match just because it was the first whetting of the fans' appetites to see Rock and Austin go at it and was the very beginning of the Wrestlemania XVII build. Most probably remember their one-on-one exchange from the Rumble match the next month more, but the electricity was greater for this one I felt. Kane was the only guy around at the Rumble and you knew that with only three guys left in that they'd have to lock up eventually, but in that HIAC match it came out of nowhere for me. Even knowing that they were already the main event of Wrestlemania five months later didn't dampen it at all. It benefited greatly from, as someone said earlier, the match being totally chaotic and having little flow. That way, when the two locked eyes and went off on each other it felt like a sudden moment of clarity in what was otherwise a big mess. One of the last times during the peak period that I really marked out and felt my eyes widen when I realized what was about to go down. Man, I wish I hadn't accidentally taped over that show.
