People Who Tailgate

Recommended Posts

I don't mind being tailgated on the highway half as much as I hate it when chronic lane changers can't make up their mind on the main road. It's 25mph due to having about 6-8 traffic lights per mile yet everyone thinks they're going to beat the system by streaming around everyone. It never works as the city (most cities I'd imagine) obviously have the lights rigged to make sure everyone has to pay their dues at the ol red light district.

Because it's dangerous to tailgate and it's a safety hazard especially in the winter time when you have all the snow and ice on the roads.

WP -- Loves slowing down fast drivers.

Yet, hitting your breaks when you have all the snow and ice on the roads, and a vehicle on your tail, is safe.

Why are you using the word "yet"?

Anyway, that's what I pretty much just said. Tailgating and hitting your breaks when you have snow/ice on the roads is not safe. It's not safe for either vehicle to do so.

That's also why someone shouldn't be tailgating rain, snow or shine. There's not enough time to stop especially if the vehichle in front has no choice but to brake hard because of the unpredictability of the road. There is way less reaction time. This is driving 101. The driver from behind if he is tailgaiting can also come into the problem of being distracted as well which causes more problems for both drivers.

I believe a good percentage of tailgaters should be heavily, heavily fined. I also believe that if a person is stupid enough to tailgate that they deserve to get in an accident. Hey, if they want to risk killing someone on the road they should reap the consequences.

My advice would be don't drive so fucking slow. If any of you have a serious problem where you're being chronically tailgated, it probably speaks to how slow you're driving, like the other night I was driving home from work at 1am, in the left lane, and the car ahead of me was going at least fifteen below the speed limit. It was insane.

Considering I go to work on a road that morons think is a highway even though it is two lanes, is surrounded by woods half the way, the speed limit is 45, its winter and you never know where the ice is, and the fact that a deer jumped out last month, caused me to lose control of my car, crash into another car, and injure the driver (and said asshole driver is okay now but is suing) I say fuck that noise.

Keep in mind I live in PA, which leads the nation in car accidents related to deer, though.

I get tailgated nearly 9/10 times I drive on that road, and I want to kick those fuckers in the head.

We gotta worry about deer here a lot too. A buddy of mine just encountered a moose on the road a few weeks ago which is very, very dangerous.

One tip about deer for anyone reading -- A mistake a lot of people make is that they think once they stop for a deer it's safe to move on. However, this is where trouble occurs since it's very common for another deer or even more to come out afterwards. The driver will than hit the other deer. So one has to watch out for that. A common mistake.

WP: Sorry, I misunderstood your post. I thought you said tailgating is dangerous, so when people do it to you, you hit the breaks.

As long as I have enough cushion in front of me, people can ride my bumper all they want unless they try to manuever around me and right into that little cushion. My hatred for tailgating isn't as bad as my ever-growing hatred of the drivers that slalom on the freeway.
