JustJoe2k5 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Maybe he'll try to convert Marcus into a WR or RB. (They did lose their trouble making rb, afterall) Don't ever compare Ricky Williams to a cancer like Marcus Vick, the only players that should ever be compared to Marcus Vick are idiots like Adam "Pac-Man" Jones and Chris Henry.
CanadianChris Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I've seen a few columns on this topic -- does Flutie belong in the Hall of Fame? Lolz. I'm guessing those only popped up in Canuckia. And/or Boston, but it's not like they count either. More like ESPN.com and Fox Sports.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Leena proves her ignorance once again. And it is called the PRO Football HOF, not the NFL HOF. So yes, Flutie's CFL records does play into account when his time arrives, that was a big reason Warren Moon got into the hall this year.
Cheech Tremendous Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I just heard on ESPN radio this morning that the Saints sold 55,000 season tickets this year (a club record), most of which came after they drafted Reggie Bush. Good for the team and good for the city. Poor Texans.
Guest El Satanico Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 But has a player from the NFL era, ever made the hall based solely on their nonNFL career? If Flutie makes it, his NFL career won't be a factor.
Cheech Tremendous Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 But has a player from the NFL era, ever made the hall based solely on their nonNFL career? If Flutie makes it, his NFL career won't be a factor. If you are going to call it the PRO football HOF and not have the best player ever from the Canadian Football League, then what's the point? Not that he will make it, but I would say Flutie is a no-brainer. This was a fairly big topic the other day on the Sportsbash. The host, Eric Kuselias, tried to start an argument that Flutie belonged in. The only problem was almost no one called or wrote in with a dissenting opinion. Most of the audience generally supported the idea.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 The problem is the Hall is filled with guys who did big things in the NFL/AFL. Flutie was never really a great player in NFL, sans a couple of seasons. How can they justify putting a mediocre player in the Hall? With Warren Moon he still enjoyed a great career in the NFL.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Flutie gets in because of Flutie Flakes!
nl5xsk1 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Flutie's a given for the college football HOF, and the CFL HOF ... but it'd be a fucking joke if he made it to the HOF in Canton. The guy was, for the most part, a career back-up that only had one good year as a starter. His NFL career falls way too short (no pun intended) for him to even be considered for induction into Canton. And/or Boston, but it's not like they count either. Listening to the local idiots try & justify inducting Flutie into the HOF has been painful. One genius went as far as to say that Flutie was held-back as a starter because coaches would rather lose with a tall QB than win with a midget like Dougie. (my words, not his ... but that was his actual point: coaches were so anti-Flutie that they'd rather keep him on the bench than win.)
Guest Princess Leena Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I should point out that I'm not ridiculing Boston fans. It's your media types that blow.
Cheech Tremendous Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 His career CFL statistics include 41,355 passing yards and 270 touchdowns. He holds the professional football record of 6,619 yards passing in a single season. He still holds four of the CFL's top five highest single-season completion marks, including a record 466 in 1991. His 48 touchdown passes in 1994 remains a CFL record. He earned three Grey Cup MVP awards, and was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player a record six times (1991-1994, and 1996-1997). I'm not really advocating the guy either way, but that's a damn fine resume if you want to make the case. If you're going to bother calling it a pro football hall of fame and not the NFL hall of fame, you should probably have the best CFLer of all time in there.

The problem with putting Flutie in Canton based almost solely on CFL numbers (which don't really translate) is then you open up the door for the best Arena Leaguer(s) of all time as well since that's professional football too. I get the idea, but it just doesn't seem right to see Flutie get in.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 IS there a CFL Hall of Fame? Yes there is. nl5xsk1 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Arena Football doesn't count as Pro Football, because it has different rules and it's just simply not the same of actual Football. Much the same way that the CFL & the NFL has different rules, one could say.

CanadianChris Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 About the single-season pro football passing record...you can't realistically compare CFL stats with NFL stats, because the games are too different. Having only three downs make teams pass a LOT more. Case in point: This past season, three CFL QBs threw for over five thousand yards, while only two RBs rushed for more than 1200 yards (in an 18 game season). Put an NFL-calibre QB in a CFL offense, and he'll get close to the record every season. A guy like Marino or Elway or Manning could probably top 7000 yards in a season. Flutie was a guy who was too good for the CFL, not quite good enough for the NFL.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Tommy Maddox should make it to Canton for his XFL MVP / championship season with the LA Xtreme.
tominator89 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Eagles, Vikings swap WRs Thank god, Billy McMullen is out of Philly.
the pinjockey Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 The classic "great deal.....who'd we get?" Watch McMullen turn around and pull a Finneran.
tominator89 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Who for who? Philadelphia traded wide receiver Billy McMullen to Minnesota for rookie free-agent receiver Hank Baskett on Thursday.
CanadianChris Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Ricky Williams, coming soon to a CFL game near you: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2450727
Vampiro69 Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 At least Canada has looser pot laws then the US. Ricky has that going for him. Maybe Onterio Smith will join him in Canada.
Cheech Tremendous Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 I read a week or two ago that Onterrio Smith DID sign with a CFL team.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Ricky's going to have a blast when the Argos travel to B.C. Hell when the Argos come play the Stamps, I'll seriously wait for Ricky Williams to come out just blaze a phatty with him.

tominator89 Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Any updated word on the status of Ashley Lelie? I've heard that the usual suspects (Philly, Chiefs, San Fran) were interested but I'm not sure what it would take to move him.

He's going to be a free agent after this season anyway.
