spman 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 For years I've heard from every source imaginable that Dynamite Kid is the greatest worker of all time and all that, but I recently finished watching a comp tape I got that had at least 4 different Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask matches on it, and while don't get me wrong it was very good stuff, it wasn't as impressive as I had been led to believe. I suppose when put into context, this stuff is leagues ahead of whatever nonsense WWF had Piper and Snuka doing at the time, and if you had watched Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask in 1984 when the only other wrestling you had been exposed to was seeing Hogan and JYD fight The Wild Samoans at MSG, it would have blown your mind, but that being said, compared to some of the stuff I've seen from guys like Benoit, Jericho, Eddie, Malenko, Mysterio, Etc. do in the modern era, the Dynamite Kid matches seem tame in comparison. He was so far ahead of what the main guys were doing at the time that it was like " this guy is fucking amazing". Against Bruce Hart he hit a headbut not from the top rope but from the top of the ringpost to the concrete floor. DK is my number 1 or number 2 wrestler of all time. His only real "fault" was the structure of his matches at times. But DK was the most believable heel I've ever seen. He had the presence in the ring that so many lack. He wasn't pretending to be a jerk. He was a jerk. He was probably the most insane and best bumper as well. In Stampede he was terrific. He was having matching against guys that had no right to be having matches that good and a lot of that was due to what DK brought to the table all the while making his own blueprints. Put anyone else in that same posistion he was and they would not have done as good a job. Nobody. Of course besides the bumps he had the terrific offence as well; inventing some of it along the way as such as the top rope superplex or the adapation of the swandive headbutt into the flying headbutt or some kind of fancy bump. Just look at Wrestlemania X to see how much influence he had. The end of Michaels vs Ramon was similar to the end of a DK vs Bret ladder match years ago and Bret vs Owen had so much DK stuff in it you couldn't possibly count how much DK inspired stuff was in it. Even the finish was trademark DK. That's influence. I liked the Tiger Mask series a lot specifically the 4/21/83 match. While not everyone will agree with this I have it as one of the best matches of all time. Something that put goosebumps on my arms and had me emotionally captivated to the max. It is a match that can never be replicated due to the circumstances around it. I always thought DK's most impressive work was against Bruce Hart in Stampede. They have had a few clipped matches on tape and if you want to see why DK was the man these should be checked out. I can watch these forever. Some of his better matches would be DK vs Cobra (WWF tourney finals from New Japan; another very emotional bout for me), DK vs Bret from Stampede Classics, DK vs Cobra from Stampede, DK/Myers vs Bret/Davey Stampede, Bulldogs vs Malenkos All Japan, DK vs Bret 85 WWF, DK vs Marty Jones (DK viciously turns the crowd against him), DK vs Rocco England, DK vs Owen Hart Stampede street fight, DK vs Fujinami 81 New Japan and DK/Gama vs Keith Hart/forget right now from Stampede. That reminds of what I was talking about before which was DK being a believable heel. I was watching some Stampede and saw DK just ram a kneedrop into his opponent's head in a tag team match. A "simple" kneedrop and it's one of my all time fav wrestling moments. Why? Because it was real. It looked real and it felt real. It looked more real than even anything I've seen in MMA. I did not see that kneedrop coming. Not in a million years I would've seen it coming. DK was illegaly in the ring and was finally going to go back into his corner. He was a good bit away from his opponent laying down inside the ring. Than an he was walking back out of nowhere (Dk was several feet away away to the side of his opponent) he does a super quick kneedrop to his opponets head. Nobody saw it coming. DK didn't plan this out beforehand. He only snuck it in because in a split second he saw an opening out of his perpherial vision and took advantage of it. Why? Because he's evil (and dangerously evil since he's talented) and he's going to take any oppurtunity that presents himself to exploit it. That's being evil. That's real. That's talent. That my friends is the Dynamite Kid. Reminds me of the blind headbutt that he planted against Fujinami in 81. Man, I love DK. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

So I went out and bought the tape to see if it was more internet bullshit.
