Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 -he's been one of the main players in the short brand fued. -he's been fighting...AND BEATING...main event level guys for years. -he won the tag belts with the brand's world champion, I hardly call that dicking around in the tag division. -he's been ME or near ME level status on Smackdown for almost a year. -he's been over for eternity. what more does he have to do? take a step BACK into that sordid mess known as the US Title picture? Orlando Fucking Jordan is fighting for that title.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 The only reason I wouldn't put the US title on Rey is because it's a waste, why do something good, when you have the chance to do something great? I say strike while the iron's hot. Rey winning the US title would make less sense at this point. Rey might not have been 100% in the running for the WHT, but he's been more involved in the WHT picture than the US in recent months. Especially the last couple weeks. Guest Dam(o)nYankees Report post Posted January 18, 2006 ?? RVD has held numerous secondary titles, though! you're killing your own arguement! I was referring to your assessment that someone who is over can't be pushed out of nowhere, unless I read that wrong. Neither Rey nor RVD is in title contention for different reasons, and as such putting the belt on them without some build would be senseless. welllll that's why they would have to build, for example: Rey wins the Rumble, gets punked out by Angle, dedicates it to the fans, Batista and Eddie, etc. etc. Maybe I'm not seeing where you're coming from here...do you mean like, just all of a sudden give them the world title, like Kevin Nash in 94? RVD has been out for over a year, he'd have to work his way back up...I doubt, however, that the fans would shit all over Rey being the champ if he all of a sudden won it next week on Smackdown. What I'm getting at is, why not give Rey a trial run with the US Title to see IF fans will take to him routinely beating the top guys on SD before doing something like giving him the Rumble/'Mania double with no guarantee that it'll pan out the way they hope. He's been beating the top guys for three years now. He's pinned former world champions Angle, Benoit, Bradshaw, Michaels, Eddie, Big Show and Jericho. Fans have yet to shit on it. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2006 The US belt is a joke, and you don't want to put it on someone you want to push anytime soon.

Fans have yet to shit on it. The WHC hasn't been on the line and Rey didn't go on an unbeaten/superhuman run. If the fans can turn on Cena (and now seem to be doing the same to AJ Styles in TNA) it's only a matter of time before they'd get sick of Rey's "match" if he was the champ. It's one thing for Rey to be the underdog who wins matches on SD, it's something completely different to have him beat 29 other superstars to win the Rumble, co-headline WM and win on top of that, which is what some people seem to want. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2006 seriously, people have yet to grow tired of Rey's "act", he's been the same guy for years, with a slight exception being the Filthy Animals days. I wouldn't compare his crowd reactions to Cena's...Cena's character was changed from what got him over to a guy fans got tired of, completely different deal...and no one has been talking a year long reign here, but he's certainly worthy of a WM to SSlam type of run if anything. The WHC hasn't been on the line and Rey didn't go on an unbeaten/superhuman run. If the fans can turn on Cena I don't see how the Cena comparison is valid. To start with, I really doubt Rey's gimmick is going to be that of Vanilla Ice/Eminem five years after it was cool. Secondly, I really doubt that Rey is suddenly going to cut "Haw Haw, you're gay!" promos. Perhaps most importantly, if Rey starts half assing it like Cena has been for the last six months, he deserves to get booed. I think the real issua was that Cena was going out there and routinely thwarting guys that clearly outclassed him. The backlash didn't start until he came to Raw and started beating Jericho, Angle and Michaels. That won't be a problem with rey.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2006 To compare Cena to Rey is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen posted in this folder. The fans turned on Cena because his gimmick grew stale (mainly due to creative though, not really Cena's fault), he hasn't grown as a wrestler or really improved at all (this on the other hand is a mixture of creative and Cena's fault), and he was forced on the fans, with him "beating the odds" week after week after week. However, with Rey, you have a totally different situation. Most people look at the guy as one of the top performers of all time and without a doubt one of the best cruiserweights ever. Almost all of his matches are good, and he busts out great/fantastic matches just about more than any other single wrestler other than a Chris Benoit or a Kurt Angle. Fans have been behind Rey ever since his ECW days, and even before then if people actually saw him. He was loved in ECW, the fans really took to him and stayed on his side throughout his WCW run, and ever since he's been in WWE he's been one of the most over guys featured on the shows, period. As stated before, Rey has pinned former world champions Angle, Benoit, Bradshaw, Michaels, Eddie, Big Show and Jericho. There are other major players and big guys that Rey has pinned throughout his career as well. In WCW he defeated Kevin Nash, Scott Norton, Kanyon, etc... and the fans loved it each and every time. Whoever the moron was that said Rey was just a glorified gymnast just doesn't know Rey Mysterio at all. The guy has a fine mix of the lucha libre style, mixed in with traditional wrestling, and when all of that is put together it makes for a very interesting, and very over, style. If Rey ever wins the world title, and I do think he'll win it, you'll see the fans go insane unlike you have seen in quite some time. It'll be a huge moment, and the fans will fully embrace it. The matches/feuds that he could have with Benoit, Angle, HBK, and even guys like JBL could be some of the best matches and feuds that we have seen with the world title involved in years. Then on top of everything, he unloads a ton of merchandise as far as I know. To me it's just a no brainer for him to finally move on up. Especially right here and now, since he had that connection with the former champion Batista. Nothing would make more sense than Rey winning the Royal Rumble and then moving into a feud with Kurt Angle. Their title match at WM could be one of the best world title matches ever on the show, and it would be a hell of a lot better than Angle/Orton in every single aspect. There is no way in hell the fans would turn on Rey as they did Cena. From day one people were predicting that the fans would turn on Cena (me included in that group), since it was just so obvious that it would finaly end up that way. Anyone who couldn't see that was just blind to the entire gimmick. The Cena situation and Rey situation is about as different as night and day. The fans ended up not wanting Cena to overcome the odds, but with Mysterio, that's exactly what they always want. He's the perfect babyface, and his career has been building up to the moment where he finally overcomes all the odds, and finally wins a world title. I can't think of a better person for him to fight in that match than Kurt Angle, since we already know how good their matches are. After that, I'd move Rey into a program with Chris Benoit.
