Gert T Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Time to make some Men's Quarterfinals picks: Federer v. Haas - I think Federer comes close to losing a set, but is very focused after the loss earlier. Federer in 3. Hrbaty v. Davydenko - The Pink 'n Black Attack gets sacked. Davydenko in 4. Chela v. Kiefer - My gut says Kiefer, but I'm gonna go with an upset. Chela in 5. Mathieu v. Grosjean - Grosjean is on a roll. Grosjean in 4. Santoro v. Ferrer - I think this will be a great match too. Ferrer in 5. Robredo v. Nalbandian - I think this will be a good match too, but Nalbandian is too strong. Nalbandian in 4. Ljubicic v. Johansson - I am torn on this one. Ljubicic in 5. Baghdtis v. Roddick - I picked Ljubicic just since I want to see Ljubicic-Roddick. Roddick in 3. My Final 8. Federer-Davydenko Chela-Grosjean Ferrer-Nalbandian Ljubicic-Federer
naiwf Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Baghdatis is my hero for the day as he bounced Rod-dick pretty handily. The bottom half of the draw was a basic layup for Andy and of course he gagged again. Federer's road to the title just got that much easier unless he ends up facing Nalbandian in the final.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Andy wasn't gonna beat Fat Dave anyway. People are starting to handle Andy's serve. So, he loses. Santoro is so awesome to watch.
Adam Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 If anyone other than Roger Federer and David Nalbandian make the Men's Final, I'll kill something.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 This Sharapova-Hantuchova match is boner-worthy material.
Adam Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 My friend is praying it goes to like 21-19 in the third.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 My friend is praying it goes to like 21-19 in the third. Daniella should be forced to wear those compression shorts at all times. She's got a killer ass.
Adam Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Wow, I just noticed. Great point. No Maria, throw the point so you lose that set! The people demand a third set!
edotherocket Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Daniella looks pretty fit in those shorts. Did I read right that she has an eating disorder? Or was that in the past?
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Daniela probably had bulimia. Because she had family issues, and she's a quack in general. I normally like tall girls... but, she's a little too thin for me. Her legs are too skinny. And she has the face of a 12 year old. Her game is beautiful to watch though when she's not spazzing, and just focuses on her hitting her shots. Which she didn't do in that 2nd set. Oh well. Now I just have to wait for Justine to kick Maria's ass.
nl5xsk1 Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 If she has the face of a 12 year old girl, I haven't been spending nearly enough time leering at 6th graders. Aesthetically, Hantuchova pwns Sharapova. And just to prove that I'm a sexist male "tennis fan", this is the first match I've watched all tournament.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Enough perv talk. Let's talk about the matches, or I'm going full blast with my Randall Orton love in the WWE section.
nl5xsk1 Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 Well, in that case, more perv talk. Because seeing people get all bent out of shape about Randy Orton's "undeserving" push (their word, not mine) makes me happy. And I'd like to be more interested in tennis. But the men's side is just so very boring (watching Federer win with ease got old a long time ago) and the women's side seems to be the Maria & Williams' show in terms of TV coverage.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 I can't blame you with the TV coverage. ESPN blows. And the men's side is lacking this year. The lack of Nadal and Agassi really hurt. I think Nadal would have won this year with the heat and the way the courts are playing.
naiwf Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 So how badly do you think Davenport will lose to Justine tomorrow now that she's got a "sprained ankle"? I'm guessing 6-3, 6-2 or something like that, but she'll talk about how she was close again, blah blah blah. If Lindsay loses tomorrow, Clijsters will be the new # 1 unless she loses today and Mauresmo wins the tourn. . . never mind, Clijsters will be the new # 1
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 22, 2006 Report Posted January 22, 2006 The sprained ankle is legit. Lindsay had very little chance of beating Justine if healthy, so meh. I'm guessing the usual happens between them... Lindsay goes up like 5-3. Starts fucking up. Justine starts hitting winners. Lindsay smiles like a jackass, who's happy to fly to Tokyo for next week. 5-7 2-6.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Martina is looking great again, winning the first set 6-1.
Rob Anybody Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Yeah, Hingis is playing some great tennis. It'll be interesting to see how the third set goes, though, assuming that Stosur doesn't lose it during this tiebreaker. Edit: Bugger.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Martina's serve was horrible in the 2nd set. Please play better and beat Kim. I hate Kim. A lot.
Gert T Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Well, I went 5 of 8 in the Round of 16. Hopefully I will do better in the Quarters. Federer v. Davydenko - I think this may be the best match of the Quarters. But I think Federer is too focused. Federer in 4. Kiefer v. Grosjean - I knew I should have gone with Kiefer last round. I think he makes it to the semi's with a tough test against Grosjean. Kiefer in 4. Santoro v. Nalbandian - I was way off with Fabrice last round. I'll pick against him again, but this time I think "Fat Dave" puts him away. Nalbandian in 4. Ljubicic v. Bagdhtis - I wanted to see Ljubicic v. Roddick. Oh well, Bagdhtis will put up a good fight, hell I'll take him in the upset. Bagdhtis in 4. Gert's Men's Semi Picks Federer v. Kiefer Nalbandian v. Bagdhtis
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Fed d. Davydenko in 4. Dav's troubled him somewhat before with his consistent rally play... which Roger hates most. But, Dav will be tired. And Roger is playing too well. Kiefer d. Grosjean in 3. Kiefer's playing well, and hasn't gone totally insane yet. Kiefer is the much better player on this surface. Grosjean's had a pretty fortunate draw to get this far. Nalbandian d. Santoro in 4. Just because Fat Dave can never make things easy. Santoro isn't going to get Fatty to make errors like the other scrubs he's beat. Fatty is Mr. Consistent. Ljubicic d. Baghdatis in 3. This will be a blowout. Ivan is better in all areas. Baghdatis is going to be tired after his long matches.
naiwf Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I posted this elsewhere. My only hope is that at least ONE of the Women's QF matches is close since only 2 of the 8 in the previous round were (Clijsters went to a tiebreak set against Schiavone as did Hingis & Stosur). I think Henin-Hardenne beats Lindsay in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, Sharapova blows Petrova off of the court 2 and 2, Schnyder beats Mauresmo in 3 lopsided sets (something like 6-2, 1-6, 6-2) because a GS trophy is Mauresmo's kryptonite, and Hingis pulls off the upset in 3 over Clijsters because she'll make Kimmy run a lot. On the men's side I'm guessing Federer, Kiefer, Nalbandian & Baghdatis make it to the Semis, all in 4 sets. The last couple of rounds should be sick on both sides though.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I'll do women's too... even though I'm highly negative about it. Justine d. Lindsay 7-5 6-2. Justine fights. Justine believes she can win this match, and the entire tournament. Lindsay lacks both. Maria d. Nadya 6-3 6-3. Whatever. Amelie d. Patty 3-6 6-2 6-3. When Amelie is healthy, she usually gets the best of Patty. Should be a fun match between two crafty players, on a surface where spin is amplified. Kim d. Tina 1-6 7-5 6-3. Just to piss me off.
Gert T Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Leena, you're probably right about Ljubicic-Bagdhtis, but I just had to go with one upset in the quarters, and I'm still upset we didn't get Roddick-Ljubicic. Fat Dave is about to stick a fork in Santoro.
naiwf Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Nice to see Santoro bring his 'A' game to his first career QF in a major.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Don't be mean to Fabrice. He obviously ran out of juice in the 2nd set. Which is understandable.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I'm not feeling Maria's outfits lately. They make her look pregnant or something.
Guest Princess Leena Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Women's tennis fucking BLOWS. That's all I have to say. These are the #4 and #6 seeds in the Australian Open. I'm embarassed to be Russian. Even though Maria isn't Russian, anymore.
naiwf Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Do all of the Russian players on the women's side have severe mental issues or what? Henin-Hardenne would've pasted either one of the bitches in under 45 minutes. If for some odd reason Davenport beats Justine, I think Martina's got this title locked up since everyone else will crack under the pressure/heat.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Man what an awful match that was.
