Impact scores a record high rating for Monday Replay

Recommended Posts

Credit: PWInsider

For the first time ever, the repeat Monday airing of TNA Impact on Spike TV did a better number than the original Saturday night showing. As Mike Johnson reported earlier, the 1/14 edition of Impact did a 0.8 cable rating, with a 1.4 share. The 1/16 replay did a 0.9 cable rating, with a 2.6 share, by far the highest number that they have ever done in the Monday time slot. The replay was helped by a big lead-in from the UFC special that preceded it, which did a 1.7

Spike's got to be thrilled with that.....I wonder if this could lead to the UFC/TNA tandem becoming a permanent Monday fixture down the road. I know the speculation has been that if TNA's moved from Saturdays, they'll get a Thursday night slot, but that's a pretty good showing all around I'd say. Just a thought....

Personally I would love to have TNA on Thursday nights. I know everyone is creaming their pants at the thought of a new Monday Night wrestling war, but I don't think TNA is ready for that. I personally miss having the option of Smackdown on Thursdays, and it has been a traditional night for wrestling since WCW Thunder started in '98 or so. I think they could really excell in a prime time Thursday night spot.

TUF/iMPACT on Monday night up against Raw could probably get 2.0 if promoted right.

Yeah, but promoted right has been the problem always facing TNA. They just don't get promoted, which is more on the shoulders of TNA than anyone. TNA will never see too high a rating if they plan on just word of mouth.

All it would take is another season of TUF with a house full of drunks and some workout sessions where the people passout or puke from being pushed too hard and if 20% of the show is focused on Dana White. For the second hour iMPACT could start out with a promo from Christian, Sting, or Raven then go to the X division match then a quick squash from one of the monsters and finish up with a main event of Abyss vs Joe.

The Xzyience Morphoplex 2 hour block of total nonstop reality tv will bring in the ratings.

I think Spike should seriously consider having TNA be on Monday nights from 10ET to midnight ET or 8ET to 10ET, so they would compete for one hour with Raw and another hour would be unopposed. You then simply give two hours additionally to UFC, having Ultimate Fighter actually compete head to head with Raw (or you be REALLY adventagious and have a live UFC Fight Night hour every Monday, with TUF after it). This UFC/Spike combo on Mondays might really work judging by these numbers.

I think competition creates more of a buzz than running unopposed and here is a big thing - Mondays are traditionally "wrestling night." And even putting it this way - TNA has more chance to really succeed on Mondays, I think, compared to a Thurs night, because people are going to be flipping through either while watching Raw or just looking for something to bring them back to wrestling on that all familiar Monday night spot.

And before you immediately think that TNA isnt "ready" yet for Monday nights, consider the number that they got Monday. Nobody can reasonably think that a 2.0 isnt at least do-able.

My personal preference would be for Impact to be on before Raw on Monday nights. TNA just doesn't have the resources to compete head-to-head with WWE.

They need to show they can get over 1.2 without the UFC lead-in first.

TNA must be really popular in Hong Kong, though. They have TNA commercials for Impact & Xplosion every break.

I was thinking along those lines as well. I think if we ever see TNA on Monday nights, it'll be in something like this. At it works because they've already got the built-in marketing campaign with the "Must Bleed TV." Using your scenario, I'd say them getting a 10-12 would be more likely, because at this point, UFC would still work better as the lead in, as these numbers show. The only problem would be that the show would still have to be taped, but maybe they could do a same day live-to-tape situation where they run the taping from say 6-8 (and tape Xplosion afterwards). They wouldn't be able to edit out the crowd shitting on Jarrett, but it might be an improvement anyway, because it would force them to book the show as if it were live.

Did I miss something here???

No.

I just didn't want to post a new thread proclaiming TNA is popular in Hong Kong.
