re: The gambling situation ... I don't know if I'm in the minority, but I really don't think that athletes gambing on sports (as long as it's not the one that they play) is that terrible. The punishment for the active players, or even Gretzky, should be minimal. Tocchet, on the other hand, is likely fucked, since he could be facing money laundering charges. And, most importantly, the pervert in me is thinking that Janet Jones + women's prison = hawt.

Any recent pics of Mrs. Gretzky.

kingofthe909 is one of these typical sportsfans who concerns himself mroe with bashing than actual constructive crisism. when they start winning again he'll be on cloud nine being their biggest fan.

There's nothing to be constructive about when their last win was against Atlanta and the one before that was in Boston a month ago. Also, they were 2nd in the West after beating Dallas on New Year's eve, now headed out of the playoff picture. I love my team, not their coach.

Win in regulation that is. When they're playing teams in the conference every night, they can't be giving them points in overtime.

Um, you do realize the Kings are actually a pretty shitty team on paper (and have been for the past few seasons) and constantly overachieve, right? And that you typically fire a coach of an underachieving team, not an overachieving one?

And I know, yada yada yada, you watch a 1000 games a year and every Kings game and that only you really know how good they are, blah, blah, blah.

When you have one of the best systems (prospect wise) in the league, aren't you supposed to play the ones you have up? After the 1st 2 lines, I do realize that they are pretty shitty, but everyone's seemingly disappeared. If overachieving is getting to the 2nd round once in 7 years, then you're damn right. 10th and 11th the past 2 years with fully minor league teams, that's overacheiving. With no injuries, they're past that stage by now.

And oh yeah, what team do you like?

LA should be 6th or 7th. But not headed towards 9th or 10th, because that's exactly what's happening.

I don't think they're this super team, but that there is no way this team should be losing to the teams that they are.

5 goals to Minnesota, 7 goals to Columbus? That's not normal, it's the sign of a team that doesn't believe in their coach.

The Knicks-Nets game was on two channels last night in NY. The yes network and msg. Just by looking at the Knicks situation you can tell that Dolan is beyond an idiot.

I heard Jose Theodore failed a drug test.

It didn't do him much good

How long you been waiting to use that gem?

They havent named it definitively from what I'm seeing on The Score, but it either helps hair regrow or masks steroid use....

I'm a little worried he's guilty.

Nah, when the Rangers are playing well NYC gets excited about them.

They were the toast of the town for winning in '94.

NY is faling in love with the Rangers, but the media sure as hell isn't. The freaking Knicks, even after the Rangers killed the best team in the NHL last night, still got the front page in both the post and daily news.

Unless Forsberg plays, I don't see a way for Sweden to medal. I'll cover that in my article.

The Czechs are dangerous, especially because they can throw Vokoun or Hasek in there.

Indeed.

So how is everyone in Canada reacting to Jay Bowmeester making the Canadian team. Personally I'm surprised considering they have Phaneuf and Boyle not mentioned.

Boyle's on the taxi squad. I think there's a good chance he'll be on the team.

The Sun's Olympic preview is out.

They have Canada winning gold, Sweden silver, and Czech Republic bronze.

Hockey was the only sport where I didn't predict the medal winners.

They didn't even put your name in. For shame.

It's the Sun. Inegrity and accuracy hardly seem like priorities.

Good call on Sweden, especially being in a tougher group.

The Czechs are still the team to beat after Canada. This is, don't forget, essentially the same team that went undefeated two years ago in the World Cup.

I got a mention in the paper which was nice. They didn't mention I did all the predictions, since it's not like I'm an expert in well, any of these sports.

My favourite is the cross country team pursuit, since I made that one up.

I think Russia will finish bronze if Forsberg isn't playing. Slovakia is the dark horse.

Integrity? Well they do attempt to create their own stories sometimes. But the Sun is usually very accurate.

This Theodore thing is such a pathetic non-story (Propecia/Rogaine? I mean, come on) that I really feel the only reason it broke today was to take some attention off of Gretzky and his connection to Tocchet's gambling service.

So Tocchet's pretty well fucked, right?

I mean, they're tied in with the mafia, for Christ 's sake.

Slovakia is the dark horse.

I think so too. They have a problem with goaltending, but with Chara playing 35-40 minutes (that's no typo) it'll help them a lot. They have guys that can score, no doubt about it.

Team USA does look bad, but I wont count them out of it. The team that lost tons of potential was Finland. Without Kipper, I don't know how reliable the team is.

My dark horse is the Swiss. Gerber and Abeischer(sp?) as the goalies. Its probably the third best goaltending group in the tourney.

Predictions:

Gold: Canada

Silver: Czech Republic

Bronze: Russia.

I think the American team needs Esche, Grahame or DiPietro to step out, and let Miller come in. From there, it would be anyone's guess, because I think he's good enough to steal a bunch of games. Team USA is good at grinding it out though, so they're a tough matchup.

And Finland's real bad off with Pitkanen out. Niittymaki's good too, but they don't have enough in the back.
