Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 Whatever happened to the Olympic games of the past where amatuers played? "Do you believe in miracles?" The Coyotes should bring back Bob Francis to coach the Coyotes.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I think the American team needs Esche, Grahame or DiPietro to step out, and let Miller come in. From there, it would be anyone's guess, because I think he's good enough to steal a bunch of games. Team USA is good at grinding it out though, so they're a tough matchup. Add Tim Thomas to the mix, too ... now that he's qualified for the league leader stats, he'll be among the league leaders in save % and GAA. I'd feel more comfortable with him or Miller than any of the three goalies named to the team. ESPN went all homer with the USA team and not only has them medalling, but beating the Czech Republic for it. I'm surprised ESPN even acknowledged hockey as an Olympic sport. They're not big hockey fans, y'know. The most recent magazine had a joke about how the playoffs would immediately have controversy over a shoot-out ... even though there won't be shootouts in the post-season. Crack research staff down there in Connecticut. At this point, it's safe to say that unless a goaltender stands on his head, there's no way that the Amerks will win a medal. Which is fine by me, this is a rebuilding era for the US team. There was a lot of older talent (that's being segued out) and there's a lot of young talent (that's too young to make a difference now) but there's not much in between. In 4 years, that young talent will be difference makers, and the US team should be back in the mix as a medal contender.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I agree with niskie on America. In 2010 they will be a force for the medals. The only thing that can stop them is that the American goalies will fade away. BTW what ever happen to Al Montoya?
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2006 I actually just saw Montoya in the AHL All-Star game skills competition earlier this week. He's playing reasonably well for Hartford, but not good enough to warrant even back-up status in the NHL at this point. The guy's not getting any younger. mike546 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 Don't think he's really going anywhere with the Rangers with Lundquist as goalie. Speaking of which, fuck the olympics. The Rangers are absolutley on fire.
Guest Report post Posted February 11, 2006 I'm ready for an Olympic break, and I would love to see Tim Thomas in net for the Americans. His style is so weird, kinda reminds me of a certain Czech goalie. I like him.

mike546 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 I'd understand the belief Lundquist wouldn't be able to do this stuff next year if he just came out of nowhere, like Tim Thomas. But he's been dominating the Swedish leagues for years, and I don't see any reason he won't be just as good next year.

RepoMan 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2006 ESPN picking USA to model is total bullshit, but I'm glad they're at least trying to get pepole into hockey. It seems like the promote it better now that they don't have it.

But he's been dominating the Swedish leagues for years, and I don't see any reason he won't be just as good next year. My belief is that he'll still be good, but won't put up numbers like this, which is disappointing. There's nowhere to go but down from where he is. And they finally fucking won. A win against Dallas tomorrow and a Chicago win against Anaheim would put them 6 points ahead of the Ducks going into the break.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 What makes Miller not a candidate for the Calder?
mike546 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 Rangers win their last six before the break against Philly, Ottowa and Toronto twice. For basically the first 3/4ths of the season so far, I really didn't think this team would do much if they made the playoffs. But who knew Rosival would be a PLUS 31, who kne Lunqvist would be amazing, and who knew Jagr would be so good again. This team has it, and I don't see why they can't win the cup. the max 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 Sorry to be a dickhole, and I may be wrong, but isn't Miller technically ineligible for the Calder n ow? The guidelines from NHL.com are: To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. Miller played in 15 games in the 2002-03 season and three games in the last NHL season. The player must not be older than 26 years before September 15 of the season in which he is eligible. Miller's birthday is 7-17-80, making him currently 25.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 Sorta OHL related, but I feel real bad for my cousin. After playing for Barrie for half of the season, he's gotten traded to the Ice Dogs, and man do they suck losing to Sudbury 9-1 today.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 HEY WE WON!!! Beat the Flyers, too, which is impressive. Nice to go into the break on a positive note. Coach Murray has lots of time to try and tweak the system to beat whatever new defensive schemes opposing teams are trying on the Sens.

Guest Report post Posted February 12, 2006 Speaking of things that needed to happen such as the one above, Sergei Gonchar got 4 points against Washington, and Ovechkin was looking for a fight in return for being speared in the balls last time they played the Pens, but Whitney would not oblige. I love Ovechkin. When I saw Florida in person, I didn't think there was a worse team in the league than them. They're better now.

Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 Ya but I mean a goalie that hasn't folded in a year or so. Completly forgot about Byron Dafoe Oh I read the question totally incorrectly. My bad, and good call on Dafoe who actually had a half-decent career before he went down the drain.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 CG, what's with your Marc Savard obsession? What, my thinking the guy who's fifth in league scoring and has been a point-a-gamer on the league's best line will remain hot = obsession? Last day before the shutdown...What's the play? Discuss Olympics hockey in here? It is available on Pro- Line, much to my delight. Big game for the Kings today, who must be deflated from last night's win, winning in a shootout but taking a 4-1 lead to the third.
the max 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2006 I think Savard's overrated. Playing with Hossa and Kovalchuk is the reason why he's so high in scoring. Sadly, he's going to get a ridiculous contract in the offseason that will overpay him by at least twice of what he's actually worth.
