New CEO

Recommended Posts

I dont know many details on the current CEO. I do know that he/she told the majority of 'no-gimmick' wrestlers to go out and find something to make them stand-out, or he/she would have no problem letting them go. This may be the driving force behind "Hard Gay" Austin Aries, "Alien" Chris Sabin, and "Emo Kid" Alex Shelley.

lol, I think that can work. I'd like to see Aries come out each week with a new look trying to find the "look" that stands out. He can come out in face paint one week and so on. Shelley can go full on "American Beauty" with the camera, and they can run a concussion gimmick with Sabin where either he believes he is an alien or that he was abducted by aliens.

The best gimmicks are usually the ones the wrestlers come up with themselves. Telling them to get creative and stand out is better than trying to give them shitty characters like WWE does.

Sabin should just be the complete prick heel he once was again...only slightly Eddie-ized. As in he's a prick, he knows it, and he just flashes a smirk every time he cheats. He doesn't always HAVE to cheat, but a lot of the time he does anyway.

But yeah. Telling the gimmick-less to come up with gimmicks is a better idea than giving them ones that don't fit them at all.

It'd be nice, but there's so few established faces in the X-Division.

What he needs is some kind of a mini-angle to establish himself with the Spike fans. TNA doesn't realize that whatever Sabin did two years ago as X Division Champion means jackshit to 70% or so of the audience.

Totally agree with this.

Also, some advice for the New CEO. Cut the bad wrestlers and keep the good ones. While I can't guarantee it'll draw more fans, it'll helpe the quality of the shows for sure. :D

I think that Zybysko actually has an excellent character, but he's just being used in the wrong role. I like Zybysko as an overmatched middle manager type who gets stuck dealing with the crap day in and day out. What they need to do is have an authority figure directly above Larry on the food chain, someone who actually comes off as something other than a whiny punk. Have Zybysko on every show dealing with day-to-day issues, and have the suit come in when it's important.

But Impact already has Zybysko and D'More on tv everyweek I don't think I can handle another Drew Carey type middle manager. The way I see it is that Jackie Gayda is the Mimi of the show annoying the shit out of both Larry and Scott...is there really a need to bring in a Mr. Wick character to kill more time on the 45 minute Impact? They could bring back the NWA Championship Committee concept but that should only be used sparely.

The alien on Sabin's tights seems to be a tribute to the alien from 311's self-titled album from 94. 311 is his favorite band.

The hair is making sense now.

Also, I agree that the new ceo and TNA management telling the workers to get their own gimmick or niche is a great move. The best characters in wrestling are the ones that are basically extensions of the wrestler's true personality or when a wrestler has full control of his character.

I don't believe they ever officially got rid of the Championship Committee. The gimmick is that Larry is the spokesperson for the committee, so they send him to do their dirty work and the workers make their pitches for title shots to him. He's not the final decision maker, like Dusty and Russo were presented as when they were Director of Authority. There is actually potential for the gimmick to be different than every other GM storyline in wrestling (well Bischoff and Vince could have had the same dynamic if VKM wasn't more interested in neutering Eric every week), but TNA doen't push it there, mostly because Larry's the only committee member still with the company (I'm pretty sure Piper and Terry Funk were the others).

The overworked middle manager concept BostonStranger was talking about would be a perfect way for Larry's role to be different, but the problem is that TNA has only half-heartedly presented him that way. If you weren't watching when the championship committee was formed, you don't know that Larry's not the where the buck stops, storyline wise. That would get over his persona of washing his hands of things he doesn't deem pressing or doesn't have time for, like GenNext's request for title shots, more than presenting him as THE authority figure. For instance, if Larry was the D.O.A, like Russo or Dusty was, then he could just give them title matches to shut them up and if they get choked out by Joe, tell them they had their chance. But him telling them to get noticed makes more sense if he's telling them he's only got one vote on the committee, so they'll have to do something to impress the others. Because clearly he's noticed them. They're in his face every week.

This could all be fixed if they just occassionally have the entire committee on the show....like at the press conferences, standing behind Larry. They could replace Terry and Roddy with Terry Taylor and Dory Funk (since for some reason he's putting over Christian nowadays) and be on their way. Make Terry the chair of the committee, just b/c he'd make a great "that's the last word" persona and have Larry working to keep the committee AND the wrestler's happy, all while trying to keep his sanity. Then, his whiny, Dr. Phil comments make sense and you could justify him being a face to Christian but a heel to Raven. The competing interests would make the flip-flops more understandable.

The major problem with Larry Zybrisco is his appearence! How is he suppose to be the authority figure if the man looks like he could be a fan sitting in the front row with the casual hawian shirts that he wears? Larry Zybrisco needs to look like a businessman not like a tourist who is taking a break from walking around the amusement park.

As for members of the Committee, well it can be anybody who was NWA heavyweight champion from the glory days....i.e. any name that gets mentioned whenever the championship belt linage is hyped.....Funk, Rhodes, Flair, Steamboat, Race etc.

I remember him embarassing the DA back in 92 by dropping 2 straight falls to Koloff on WCW SN.

God, Zbyszko sucks so much. He never fit in with the DA, IMO, and looked like the lamest partner ever when he subbed in for Arn to team with the Horsemen in 91 for War Games. Even Dusty on commentary was busting on the Horsemen for picking such a lame partner.
