Bruins lose to Florida in a shootout, getting goals from Bergeron and Boyes and solid, spectacular at times goaltending from Thomas. I think we've been watching the same game for the last two and a half weeks. No other lines can create any kind of offense or defense. Sturm-Bergeron-Boyes has been carrying this team for the last almost three weeks, all of the other lines are out there because SBB needs a breather.

The Rangers come back big time in the Battle of Struggling New York teams...somehow that didn't make the marquee. 4-2 going into the thrid, they win in a shootout. This was a probable first round matchup.

Sharks and Oilers should win, so the Canucks are far from out of the woods.

No other lines can create any kind of offense or defense. Sturm-Bergeron-Boyes has been carrying this team for the last almost three weeks, all of the other lines are out there because SBB needs a breather.

 

I fully agree that the top line has been head-and-shoulders better than any other line on the team ... strike that, head-and-shoulders better than all three other lines combined. I do, however, think that in the half-a-dozen games that Isbister's been back, him & Murray have been playing well as 2/3 of a second line. If they had a center that was even halfway decent, they'd be a good 2nd line. Instead, they have Reasoner struggling to keep up with them.

 

If the B's can add a legit #2 center they could have a good second line to play behind the Sturm/Bergeron/Boyes line next year (and the first person to suggest Zhamnov, even as a joke, gets an e-punch).

For the first time since about a week before the Olympics, I'm not even considering taking the Habs on either of my two pro-line tickets tonight. They lost 3-1 a week ago.

 

The Leafs can at least try to maintain hope tonight, as the struggling Devils are in Ottawa, with Volenchkov and Redden both coming back it appears. This is absolutely fascinating hockey in the west right now. I'd like any of you to tell me you don't think San Jose will get in at this point.

 

And how bout the freakin Ducks on a roll? They cost me 100 dollars on two separate pro-lines last week, thanks to the OT win over Colorado Wednesday and the drubbing of Nashville Friday. Tonight's rematch against the Avs could be a first round match-up, but even Colorado's still not a lock. This is gonna be great.

Volchenkov isn't playing. They said it this morning in the paper, and they said it again on the pre-game show.

 

And Redden hasn't missed a game since the Olympic break. He may have suffered a minor injury recently, but he hasn't missed any time.

 

EDIT: And now Phillips is out. They're saying it's a hyperextended knee. And Meszaros just got hurt, although it looks like it's not serious.

Anaheim-Colorado and Minnesota-Edmonton are both tied.

There's a gaping opportunity for the Kings considering they play Edmonton and Calgary in the back to back on Wednesday and Thursday. Any team would LOVE the opportunity to make up 4 points. The Edmonton game concerns me much more than the Calgary game, because Calgary can't pepper the net, which prevents the Kings from getting in big trouble.

 

Anaheim and Nashville are the only teams 3-8 that are solid locks.

 

And Hasek's waiting to come back until right before the playoffs. Smart move.

How is it that two 40-goal scorers can never score in a shootout? I can't remember seeing Heatley or Alfredsson score a shootout goal since Thanksgiving (that's CANADIAN Thanksgiving, in October).

 

Thank FSM there aren't any shootouts in the playoffs, or the Sens would be royally fucked.

Even though the Kings have lost one shootout, I still hate them. I'd rather they went 4-4 for half the overtime period, then 3-3 for the other half, then if both teams were tied, then go to the shootout. It's better than a tie.

I doubt there's a personon this board who wouldnt take more 4-on-4 as opposed to a shoot out.

 

The Leafs try to keep up with a win...it's of course trumped, again, this time by the Habs and Devils win. There's no a 3 way tie for 6-7-8. Pick it up Habs, I don't want to see Carolina or Ottawa first round. Although that would be some great hockey.
