kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2006 So my idiot boss wants me to save these PDF files as editable Word files. I've done this in the past with no problem, but these ones, when I save them as a Word Document, aren't editable. These pages, which have nothing but text on them, are being saved like the group of text on a page is one big image. I've saved other PDF's on my hard drive as Word files, just to see if there's a problem with the way I'm doing the saving, and those worked. Any ideas why these new hippie PDF's are giving me an attitude?
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted March 16, 2006 Possibly because they were scanned incorrectly as pure images.. ?
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 That was my guess (especially when other text-based PDF's were able to be converted), but I wasn't sure (I don't use Acrobat except to make PDF files). I asked him how he converted these documents into PDFs, and he said he didn't know (but of course he needs them NOW). Guess I'll be re-scanning tomorrow. Thank God I work two floors below the main floor.
Guest InuYasha Report post Posted March 18, 2006 In my six weeks as an IT technician so far, I've learned that most problems are caused by the very people who have them. About a week and a half ago, we got two calls from the same chic, on the same day, who's Tech IQ is somewhere around room temperature. We had to go out there twice; both times, it was a loose cable on the back of the PC. I shit you not.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2006 I have nothing but respect for Tech help people (as long as they're not arrogant shits). For some reason whenever there are office computer/system problems, I'm the one who has to deal with them. (The one boss doesn't like it whenever I'm called up to fix some technical problem and I say to someone nearby "Odd how this wasn't in the job description when I interviewed for this position" or some other snide remark, but fuck them.) Oh, and my one co-worker doesn't know how to COPY and PASTE text. What does she do all day? Work in front of a computer. And from what I hear, she always complains about being underpaid. I know next to dick about computers (I know what all the shit that hasn't changed in 20 years is, and can find my way around a Windows control panel, but not much else), but my in-laws and co-workers think I'm Bill Gates. Sorry, but knowing how to attach a file to an email or how to install software from a CD makes you only slightly more knowledgable than a trained monkey. I became my department's unofficial tech guy now because I know how to ATTACH DOCUMENTS TO AN E-MAIL AND SAVE STUFF TO DIFFERENT FOLDERS.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2006 About two weeks ago I got a call from a regular who was in a panic, saying "I opened this file and the pages aren't moving." After trying to get as much information out of her as possible, I discovered she had a PDF file open and didn't know how to jump from one page to the next. I give her credit for trying something new, but it's not worth going into hysteria over. Jerk, I hope at least you make out the computer problems your "in-laws" have to be more serious than they actually are. That way you can build up some credit when asking them for money for a second honeymoon or something. "Sure, don't give us money for a cruise. Just don't come knocking around my door when your modem gets unplugged."
