Was SNME a flop??? Ratings are in...

Recommended Posts

Guest Brian

I'm thinking somewhere between a 3.1 and 3.3, but that's based on finalized numbers and not fast nationals.

Good lord, they couldn't even top "The Sixth Sense", a movie everyone on planet earth knows the secret behind. Sad sad sad.

Hehe... that's great. :)

If this show had been offered in HD, it would've gotten a much higher rating.

Just to put things in perspective, NBC drew a 4.7 two Saturdays ago, winning the night, with Dateline NBC (4.5), a Law & Order: SVU rerun (5.0), and a repeat of the premiere episode of Conviction (4.7).

SNME is down over a third from those numbers.

They got a 4.4 last week. This week they got a 3.0

The first hour did a 2.9, so I'd assume the second hour, did a little better. It also said Conviction did worse then hour 2 of SNME

Or the Undertaker looking 90 years old trying to sell this ridiculous "pure striker" gimmick that he wants to get over so badly because he is such an MMA fanboy

LIES! LIIIIIIIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All they need is Taker doing some kickboxing with K-1 fighters. The deadman needs to go to Thailand!! It'll work dammit!

That doesn't surprise me. SNME wouldn't have been much of a lead-in, either in viewers or in similar content.

Yeah, a 4.0 would be somewhere around a 3.3 or so if I am not mistaken. Cable ratings are usually equal to around 1,450,000 viewers per ratings point and broadcast television is about 1,100,000 households per ratings point.

If a 4.0 cable rating's worth of people had seen SNME, what rating would that be?

According to Neilsen's website, there is no difference between 1 national point and 1 cable point... Each 1.0 represents a little over a million people watching.

--Last night may have been a good show, but the ratings were a bomb. SNME did a 3.2 rating on the fast nationals, dead last among the four networks that were programming, two of which were running reruns and CBS did a 6.0 with the NCAA Basketball tournament in the two hours head-to-head.

You know Taker vs Bob Sapp would be more believable.

Actually What happens is that a cable rating is released first(which is the number the websites report) however at the end of the week Nielsen releases the final number as a national rating

Example:

Raw got a 4.0 cable rating last week

which is a 3.3 national rating

-WWE ENTERTAINMENT (WWE RAW) USA MON 10:00 PM 3.4 rating 3,717,000 homes 5,137,000 viewers

- WWE ENTERTAINMENT (WWE RAW) USA MON 9:00 PM 3.2 rating 3,514,000 homes 5,003,000 viewers

If Vince had half a brain, he'd start to think that maybe it's time to change things after this show bombs. Of course, everyone knows he doesn't, and he'll continue to delude himself. Even if NWA starts to get high ratings, Vince's product won't change.

Also, I'll agree that from what i saw, SNME was horrible. I was expecting that though. It just gives me more reason not to watch Wrestlemania.

This will be the first year ever that I'll be actively avoiding WrestleMania. This show was a big part of that. There isn't one match on the show I want to watch based on what I saw last night.

im going to go to hooters and get drunk and eat wings to watch wrestlemania. maybe after that it will be a good show. i still think that the MIB match is goign to steal the show, if they give it enough time.

I didn't even know it was on... I just happened to be flipping through the channels and saw it on NBC right at 8, so I managed to catch the opening promos. When I saw HHH, I cringed a little bit because I realized just how fucking lame wrestling is. The King of Kings? What a joke. Then they do the opening, and surprise, his music comes on first. I assumed it was gonna be a 15 minute HHH promo, so I changed the channel, and watched Cops instead. That was entertaining. Eventually I flipped back, and saw the Boogieman segment, which was stupid, followed by the women's match/segment, which was stupid. Oh, and by the way: Trish is aging terribly. Maybe she's on some kind of growth hormone or something, but that woman is not nearly as hot as she used to be. Mickie's got a sweet ass, though. That's when it ended for me; I turned off the TV and went out because.. well, maybe I'm just out of the demo now. Maybe no matter what's on wrasslin', I'll have better things to do on a fucking Saturday night. Even if that's the case, at least fight with me. They can at least catch me for an hour or so, give me something that I want to see. It's all fucking crap. I watched Shawn Michaels wrestle when I was in the 5th grade. I'm gonna be drinking legally in 8 months. Vince's character is embarrassing to watch... so that's two embarassing old men fighting in the top program. When Benoit won the belt, I was able to justify watching with non-fans, even if it was just the main event, because there was something that you could watch. I can justify Angle matches too, which have held the attention of non-fans in the room. But this shit? I just change the channel. I feel like a dork. So yes, given the state of everything and the ratings, this was a huge Goddamned flop. Fuck the WWE.

Saturday Night Main Event was a great concept....back in the 80s when there were 2 PPVs and they didn't have the top guys fighting each other every other day. This show was just a RAW/cross-brand PPV. It was meaningless.

Pretty much every networks ratings improved in the second hour, so the WWE can't even look at that as a positive.

They got a 1.6 rating in 18-49. That's hilarious.

Watching Fyedor in your avatar speaks volumes about that demo.

Bryan Alvarez appropriately predicted this show wouldn't do too well because UPN is a network and is carried in a similar number of homes as NBC. So the SNME number should be around the Smackdown number. However, people actually watch NBC. Even if they have slipped up in the past few years, I think a lot more people on Saturday Nights would flip to see what's on NBC than would flip to UPN on Friday Nights. In other words, the potential for a higher rating is/was much greater on NBC.

Taker vs. Bob Sapp would be RIDICULOUSLY awesome.

Though not as awesome as Taker vs. Fedor.

I'll shoot Dave an email askin him where he scores his rock.

Maybe next time WWE will smarten up and actually show...I don't know ...maybe some actual wrestling matches next time instead of endless recaps, skits, promos, and the usual sports entertainment crap. What made SNME popular back in the day was getting to see some actual matches on tv that were longer than the normal TV fare....there was just way too much filler on last night's show to hook any "casual fan" that might have wanted to see some matches on a pro wrestling show.

They need to desperately add more "steak to the sizzle" as JR would say.

In North Dakota, the show was delayed until midnight because it was pre-empted for the High School Basketball championships. While I know ND has little effect on the ratings, I am curious if any other major locations had the show pre-empted as well.

It got moved to the WB in Detroit. That's not much better than a pre-emption.

The problem is that the steak has been soaking in the marinade too long and does not taste like steak anymore.
