TUF 3: The Thread

If the rest of the season is as bad as the first part of the season has been, there's not going to be a TUF4.

TUF3 is the best pro wrestling show on television today. Which may not say alot because Raw, Smackdown, and Impact are all pretty awful -especially Raw and Smackdown- but TUF does pro wrestling better than TNA and WWE by a fucking mile.

Even if the last 2 LHW fights have been almost as bad as season 2's HW bouts, the ratings say that this response is sour grapes.

So what is going to be the semis?

Ideally, Kalib and Ed fighting in the finals, as it would be kinda unwise to have either of them against Rory/Kendall where we'd get another Diego/Kenny blow out.

Matt/Bisping, by far, has been built as the number one fight on this show, and it's a question of whether they want it in the finals. It's tough, because going by Matts performance tonight against one of the worst guys on the show, the odds of him making it to the finals are slim so they might as well get a big rating out of it and make it a semi - because the TUF finals are pretty much guaranteed a 2.0 rating, given that TUF2 was far inferior and still got a 2. But then you'd get either Jesse or Josh in the finals as well, and while Josh has the nice story behind him, it's not really a marquee match. I could see them doing Jesse vs. Bisping just to foreshadow what happens when Bisping fights a wrestler (which is to say, slaughters), and how he has benefitted from all the training with Matt, and then have Matt and Josh swing away until one falls or the bell rings.

Grove vs. Herman & Starne vs. Singer

Bisping vs. Fergeson & Hamill vs. Haynes

Likely finals: Kalib vs. Kendall & Bisping vs. Hamill

Kalib & Bisping win, thus preserving some credibility.

Does Coffey posting here means he's accepted that MMA is the thing to be all up ons?

I was not anticipating seeing Matt lose. Thank Buddha. Nickels looked absolutely pathetic in there and my first thought on seeing both of them is "Bisping would absolutely murder both of them".

Looks like Matt drops out based on next weeks previews, though.

Good Rant, lord you really hate MMA journalists (are there any you do like?). Though I imagine why he still has the position is because he gets the articles done in time and can format them, both of which tend to be problems among writers, MMA in general (cough).

Stephen Martinez is Sherdog's only writer I like (and is quite good, considering English isn't his first language), and some of the guys from BoutReview are okay. There's probably about 6 guys that can write good articles about MMA, and I don't even know if most of them have the discipline to consistently put forth new material.

I just got owned on a sig bet over at Sherdog but I don't even care because of how terrible that fight was. I can't even stop thinking about it. That is definitely the worst MMA fight I have ever seen.

Nichols fought like ass out there. He was like Hughes' guy last season that completely choked under pressure (EDIT: Mike Whitehead, I think it was) Like you guys said, Matt's stand-up worked here, but it's gonna get him killed in the semis if he uses this strategy again.

And they've already started filming on TUF 4.

I mean, this was Matt's THIRD MMA fight of his career, of course he's not gonna be sharp technically. Mike was surprised early by Matt's strategy change and it completely threw him off.

The wild punches reminded me of Lindland. Are you saying that in regards to Matt using punches to set up the takedown and then grinding out GnP as well as complementing his wrestling with some submissions? I'd go more towards Evan Tanner with the way Tanner used the clinch as well as his hard(er) GnP. I dunno if Matt has a problem taking guys down, but when he's down there he couldn't finish it. Plus when he had Nickels in the clinch, he just dirty boxed and didn't throw any knees.

Matt will likely never have Tanner's type of well-rounded submission game (and should never go for a flying triangle), nor does he seem to be that natural a striker.

Worse than Salaverry vs. Marquardt from UFN 1?
