The Champ vs. The Chairman

March 27, 2006

It will be The Champ vs. The Chairman when RAW rolls into Omaha, Neb., next week.

Last week, Cena & Shawn Michaels faced Triple H & Shane McMahon in a tag team match. However, Mr. McMahon quickly disqualified Cena for using a closed fist, banishing the WWE Champion to the back and making a Handicap Match instead. Later, after Cena returned to help HBK in the Handicap Match, Mr. McMahon punished Cena by announcing that the WWE Champion would face him next week. Will the Chairman have something up his sleeve?

Also last week, Mickie James struck again, this time laying out Trish Stratus and kissing her after producing a bound-and-gagged Ashley as Trish’s surprise gift. Will the Women’s Champion have something to say about it this week?

Plus, Big Show will participate in the Master Lock Challenge Monday on RAW. Since starting the challenge nearly one year ago, Chris Masters has yet to have anybody break his finisher. Will the mighty Big Show be the first one to do it?

Find out all this and more Monday night at 9/8 CT on the USA Network.

A while back, a week or two, someone here posted saying how funny it would be, as well as not surprising at all, if they had the McMahons and HHH standing together in the ring on the last RAW before Wrestlemania as RAW goes off the air.

Um...

WrestleMania's gonna be a good show, why does it need saving?

- Two main events with non-predictable outcomes (personally, I think Cena and Rey take it),

- a should-be-entertaining HBK/McMahon match (lots of possibilities...and Michaels has had nothing but very good WM matches since his return)

- The finish of the awesome Trish/Mickie feud

- MITB 2 has a diverse lineup and a more prestigious. Flair will bleed, RVD will kick, Finlay will hit Lashley with things, Hardy will bump, and Shelton will hopefully get on his game.

- Taker's been good lately. Henry takes a good beating and is a decent monster heel.

- Carlito & Masters are entertaining personalities (whiny Tony Montana and dumb oafy I'm the leader!), they may be a very poor man's Owen & Bulldog but I'll take it...and I'm rooting for them.

- The Hall of Fame.

I agree it's not worth $50. So go to a bar and watch it. Invite friends over.

RAW has been all filler anyway. Mania will be fine.

Finlay will hit Lashley with things

I actually laughed out loud about that. But I agree with you, I think 'mania will be just fine. And I'll be watching it for free at college on a wall of a room with a cathedral ceiling :-D Let's just hope our satalite feed holds up, it didn't for the last RAW PPV.

Mania feels just fine for a normal PPV, or maybe even something like SummerSlam, but it just doesn't have that "WrestleMania feel" to it at all to me.

- Two main events with non-predictable outcomes (personally, I think Cena and Rey take it),

I'm looking forward to both, but seriously, neither one of the main title matches have the right feel to it. The HHH/Cena match started out of nowhere without any build for it at all really. The SD match lost much of it's feel after all of that Orton bullshit. The fact Rey won the Rumble, then lost that match to Orton, and then Teddy Long just went ahead and put Rey in after all, it all just lessened the impact of what, say, Kurt/Rey could have been. Not to mention the fact that I don't think Orton is ready to hold a title again, much less be in the title match at WrestleMania.

- a should-be-entertaining HBK/McMahon match (lots of possibilities...and Michaels has had nothing but very good WM matches since his return)

It will more than likely be entertaining, but this is another match that doesn't really serve a purpose at all. The entire point behind booking it in the first place was more than likely just to try to get Bret Hart to get involved with WM, and that didn't work at all, and I doubt it will.

- The finish of the awesome Trish/Mickie feud

I doubt it's even the end of the feud, but this still isn't something that can make an entire card.

- MITB 2 has a diverse lineup and a more prestigious. Flair will bleed, RVD will kick, Finlay will hit Lashley with things, Hardy will bump, and Shelton will hopefully get on his game.

This is the one match on the entire card that, to me, has that big time feel to it.

- Taker's been good lately. Henry takes a good beating and is a decent monster heel.

I've always thought it was stupid when they put Taker in there with guys like this on WM, just to have him squash them. I guess it's fine filler, but Taker should have been involved with Kurt Angle with the title.

- Carlito & Masters are entertaining personalities (whiny Tony Montana and dumb oafy I'm the leader!), they may be a very poor man's Owen & Bulldog but I'll take it...and I'm rooting for them.

This is a match that could have just taken place on RAW, not even any other PPV, and it wouldn't have made any difference.

- The Hall of Fame.

Yeah, and Bret, the main induction this year, wont even be at the show to just walk out more than likely.

Then you also have MNM who didn't even make the show, as of right now (more than likely on Heat though). Edge/Foley depends on which version of Foley shows up. Will we see the Foley that was in there with Orton or will the Foley that produced that shit match with Carlito?

I dunno, to me this is a Mania card full of the wrong people in the wrong matches, without the huge star power to really put over the right feeling. If nothing else, perhaps this WM will be looked at as a sort of transistional show years from now, and will age better than it looks to be at this moment.

I've already ordered the show so it didn't turn me off of it or anything. It just doesn't feel like a WrestleMania.

The issue with this card is that, they could have done much better with it. They rushed most of this, hardly any of the matches feel significant. They could have really scored a good show in addition to a great lineup of wrestling, but it seems they missed it again.

If they tweaked this current card just a little bit, add more sizzle to most of it...then you'd have a good mania card, instead of a passable Summer Slam card.

Uh.....

Triple H is winning the title.

Rey is getting a 60 day reign

MITB2 will suck and RVD wins it

Micky wins to keep the going for another 20 weeks.

Taker wins a boring squash

Show/Kane get screwed to noody caring

HoF is the night before

Foley and Edge will be a boring spot match with Edge winning it.

Bottomline 2 thumbs down

Update..

This week Trish will team up with Torrie Wilson to take on Candice & Victoria. This match was originally supposed to take place at Saturday Night's Main Event, but Torrie had to be replaced by Mickie after she was knocked out during a backstage attack. Will Trish be able to pick up another tag team victory on RAW?

I'll watch for Mickie James. Oh, and of course, out of habit.

I really, really cannot see HHH jobbing again at WM. They can't do the "He's too cocky and fucks up" storyline since he's now taking Cena a bit more seriously (after he nailed Big Show with the FU). And to be honest, Cena is ultra stale and needs a good depushing at this point.

I do think Rey will win at WM, but he'll end up being the dreaded transition champion to Orton at Judgment Day. Still, I think they have to pay it off here with a Rey win.

It's funny that the original MITB lineup I read on insidepulse.com was RVD/Carlito/Masters/Finlay/Lashley/Hardy. They ended up putting Carlito and Masters in the tag match (Shelton/Flair was a rumored IC match). Since it seems like Shelton/Flair were both added filler to the match and none of the SD guys has any business winning, RVD is the logical choice.

O'Haire and Jindrak are boring, bland, useless dumps of "talent" that were exposed when they came to the 'E.

O'Haire's GIMMICK and LOOK were refreshing with the Devil's Advocate character...but he was just terrible in the ring.

Jindrak is a slightly better worker, but had no interview skills, looked like random OVW callup #19, and I've yet to see a match with him I liked, except the Nitro Battle Royal where the Thrillers won their first tag straps, just because I like flippy gimmicky battle royals personally.

What the fuck?

Its an bad card with bad matches and bad build up for a Wrestlemania. No one wanted to see Hunter vs. Cena (Or Foley vs. Edge, for that matter) Would it have been that hard to let them run Cena and Edge as the semi-main? Orton's not over. Would it have been that hard to hide him in a US title match and run the story of Rey winning the big one in the singles main event? Did they have to bury the shit out of Mysterio and make Angle an afterthought before the show? Booker T has had a career resurgence. You're sticking him with the Boogeyman on the biggest show of the year? Shawn Michaels is the best worker on Raw and he's facing VINCE? You realize at this point Bradshaw and Benoit's throwaway US title match will probably be the show stealer?

Big Time my ass.

"the MitB match is a complete disaster"

- Finlay (WM 22) is MUCH fresher than 2005 "every match is the same" Benoit (WM 21), and will have just as many exciting moments or actions as Benoit did in MITB1. Benoit's the man, but I felt him being lumped into MITB was a major step down and he was an awkward entrant. Finlay is over and a kickass heel. Call it a Push.

- Shelton's been in the ring with styles that don't mesh with his in standard wrestling matches. He was in last year's. Push.

- RVD (WM 22) is a better performer and a better "spectacle match" bumper than Christian (WM 21) and can excite the crowd more than Christian's WM 21 character could. Plus a large portion of the crowds want Van Dam to win a title shot, as evidenced by the reactions to him at RUMBLE 06 and RAW (RVD/HHH/Show). Van Dam's a much bigger star than Christian was at this time last year. +1

- Matt Hardy (WM 22) and Kane (WM 21) both suck. PUSH. Kane's a slightly better worker, but Hardy will bump more, so call it even.

- Flair (WM 22) and Edge (WM 21) are about even. While Edge is a better wrestler, both really about the same to a ladder match. Edge's spinal surgery had limited his "big bumps", and ironically his biggest bump since returning was one WITH Flair in January. Flair will get the crowd going better than Edge can at that point last year. Both of these guys really don't belong in any MITB bout, I'd call it even. Flair will bring THE BLOOD, though.

- Lashley's my pick to win the thing. Raw had the MITB holder all year last year, and this would certainly erase the shitty "big time event performances" that Lashley has had (Rumble, World Title battle royal, Survivor Series). He'll bring excitement and crowd pops, plus fun brawls with Finlay. Jericho? In 2005, Jericho was still ultra stale. I'd take Lashley today over better worker yet stale babyface '05 Jericho. At least he has a future.

While the 2006 MITB doesn't "BLOW AWAY" last years, there is MUCH more intrigue with guys like Lashley, Finlay, and RVD, and no evidence that it will SUCK or is a complete disaster.

Your argument is the complete disaster.

Not quite. The true comparisons are

Finlay/Benoit (two sawed off tough guys)

Hardy/Edge (ladder match experts)

Lashley/Kane (big men)

RVD/Benjamin (the super-over babyface that will likely steal the match)

Benjamin/Christian (Cocky mid-card heel that doesn't have a remote chance in hell)

Flair/Jericho (Former world champions, that were still very over and always a possible quickie plug in for the main event).

I agree with all of that. Your saying. I thought you were saying that we had to have Cena/HHH, Orton in the main event, and Candice/Torrie - not you speaking as WWE was thinking. Sorry about that.
