In 1995 thousands if not millions of people witnessed statues dipicting Hindu Gods drink milk that was offered to them in India

Thousands of reports have come about of Bleeding statues and paintings that depict Mary and Jesus

When tests were run on the blood or tears collected (oil is secreated as well at times) the DNA has shown to be of human origin

This phenom has been recorded all around the World.

I'm interested in what any Lutherians on the board have heard as it regards to the bleeding icons of Mary, as the Lutherians feel much like this little blurb of text explains:

The Worship of Mary

Roman Catholics believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus, remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus and was sinless all of her life. She is worshiped in the Catholic church as the "Mother of God" and the "Queen of Heaven." St. Bernard stated that she was crowned "Queen of Heaven" by God the Father, and that she currently sits upon a throne in Heaven making intercession for Christians.

The Bible teaches otherwise. In the Bible, Mary was a sinner just like the rest of us. She said herself that she needed a "Saviour" (Lk. 1:47), and she even had to offer a sacrifice for her sins in Luke 2:24. Jesus was only her "firstborn" son, according to Matthew 1:25, because she later had other children as well (Mt. 13:55; Gal. 1:19; Psa. 69:8). There's only ONE mediator between God and men, and it isn't Mary (I Tim. 2:5). The last time we hear from Mary in the Bible she is praying WITH the disciples, not being prayed to BY the disciples (Acts 1:14). The Bible never exalts Mary above anyone else. Neither should we.

Do you feel this is an act of Satan to direct others to Praise mary in a round about slap in the face to God?

I'll never get the Mary thing. Last year in Chicago there was like a piss stain or something on an underpass and there were Catholics worshipping the stain. Weird.

However, it is good for lending us Sentences You'd Never Think You'd Read, like "Some people are not so sure that the Virgin Mary is under the Kennedy Expressway."

The Bible says that Satan disguises as an Angel of Light, and that he uses signs to divert people's eyes from God.

I was raised Catholic and praying to Mary is one of the reasons I got out. I don't mind statues of Mary and her being considered "Holy", but actually worshiping her is crossing the line.

Wait; I thought Satan actually WAS the Angel of Light - before his fall, at least.

He was, but the Bible says he had the ability to return to the form, since he's the ultimate deceiver.

I don't remember the details, but wasn't there some uncertainty over whether Mary was even a virgin? I recall being told that in one of the original texts, the word that was eventually translated as "virgin" could also be read as "young woman".

As for the bleeding statues, who knows. That kind of thing is almost impossible to definitively prove true or false.

I've heard that as well. However, part of me says that they wouldn't make an error THAT large in translating, since Mary's virgin-ness is one of the ways that the Bible "proves" Christ's divinity (in quotes because I know that what the Bible says doesn't really prove anything); I don't think that someone just accidently translated "young woman" to "virgin" and went "Holy crap, his mom was a virgin?", know what I mean?

No, it's a little more complicated than that. You see, in various Old Testament prophecies, it's said that the Messiah will be born from a virgin. The controversy comes in the New Testament translations over whether Mary really WAS a virgin or not. Ergo the Christian scholars who later translated that text definitely had reason to claim that she was a virgin, regardless of the truth.
