Cubs always seem to have trouble against the D-Backs. Been that way for years. Moreover, Chad Tracy has been a Cubs killer since he's been in the majors. I wasn't at all surprised to see him have a three-run homer.

I guess it's good they have Batista over the 70-pitch mark through four innings, but they've been lousy driving anyone in tonight. Game isn't on where I am, but I see they've got six hits already and the only run's come on Greg Maddux of all people walking it in. Czech, did the Cubs display some more great baserunning out there or is it just poor situational hitting?

Blah, Astros beat the Cards 5-4. Wasn't really expecting anything with Marquis against Oswalt, but they made a game out of it. Oh well, at least Albert got another home run. He came pretty damn close to winning the game, too.

Just Aramis running like a fat old man so he can't score from second, but that's par for the course.

Delgado saves the day with a walk-off, opposite field home run, his eleventh of the year. Great game.

Hey Al, a couple questions if I may...first, would you happen to know what the record is for consecutive scoreless innings pitched? Second, and this one is pretty obscure...during the Mets game tonight, Roberto Hernandez squared off against Julio Franco. The combined age of that matchup is 88. Would you happen to know the oldest combined age of a pitcher/hitter matchup in MLB history?

The record for consecutive scoreless innings is 59, set by Orel Hershiser in 1988. That one's fairly recent and famous.

As far as batter/pitcher matchups, Nick Altrock at 57 years old pitched against Rube Walberg at 37 years old, a combined age of 94.

How close did the Cards make it? I noticed that Lidge gave up a run in the top of the ninth.

Nice, thanks Al.

Also, I forgot to mention that, in what surely must be a sign of the End of Days, Endy Chavez got on base five times tonight, with two doubles, a run and a RBI to boot. Don't know where the hell that came from.

Well, at one point, a base hit would have tied it in the 9th. Problem was, it was up to Juan Encarnacion, Scott Spiezio, and Aaron Miles. So yeah, that didn't happen.

BTW, it was funny listening to Dan Mclaughlin almost orgasm after Albert hit that home run. "OH YES!"

Thank God for Delgado because our other Carlos is playing like he doesn't even care anymore.

Five games, five runs.

And it's not like they didn't have the chances. Ten hits and six walks and all they can get is a run, driven in by Greg Maddux, no less. I don't care if it's only May. This team is in trouble if they don't find another approach at the plate.

A's are getting humiliated by the Indians tonight at home. From 2001 to August 11, 2005 the A's were 253-129 (.662) at the Oakland Coliseum. On that date the A's beat the Angels on the infamous play where Francisco Rodriguez missed the the throw back from the catcher and Jason Kendall ran home and scored the winning run. Since that game the A's are 13-25 (.324) at home. OMG it's the curse of K-Rod!

Pablo Ozuna had a fantastic night, hitting his first career HR (in something like 334ish at bats) with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and doubled/scored in the 11th to win the game for the White Sox tonight.

With his contract I wouldn't care either.

Here's you're interesting MLB fact of the day:

Chan Ho Park makes more per year than the entire Florida Marlins team combined. ($15.3 million to $14.3 million)

(Yes, the same Chan Ho Park that hasn't had an ERA under 5.00 since 2001 and plays for the small-market Padres.)

There's like 12 players that make more than the Marlins combined. The list was posted in a thread here a while back.

The season is about a month old now. If it were over today, the playoffs would look like this:

NL:

Mets v. Astros

Reds v. Rockies

AL:

White Sox v. Yankees/Red Sox

Rangers v. Tigers

For some reason, I don't see those being the matchups we get in the end.

Mark Prior has been shut down due to food poisoning. Kerry Wood is going to return from shoulder surgery and knee surgery before Mark Prior recovers from a shoulder strain and a tummy ache. This is getting fucking ridiculous.

He's kinda cute, though.

Trade him to the Yankees, where he'll suddenly get healthy, and A-Rod will lead him to a ring.

He's got five home runs, three steals, and a .950 OPS in 54 ABs this year. What exactly did you expect out of Carlos Beltran this year?

Better effort than last year. He took about 10 games off with nothing structurally wrong with his hamstring, and you know that he's not going to end up playing the last 135 games of the season because he's soft. When you're getting $15+ million per, you need to play with a couple of aches and pains. The Mets can't afford to have Endy Chavez starting and being a man short on the bench every time Carlos decides he's sore.

It got a little hairy last nite, but the 'Stros still managed to win, and were the only Central Division team to win last nite, so they're now 1/2 game back. Tonite...maybe we'll get lucky. Pettitte's pitched more than well, but we can't score runs for him this year. Oh well. It'll be fun to watch. And here's a great quote from Roy Oswalt about last nite's game:

"Around the 6th inning, we were winning it 5-1 and I figured, to get on a highlight, I could give up a home run to Pujols and probably get on TV."

Roy's cool. And dammit, I'm hoping So Taguchi gets into the game.
