-------------------------------------------------------

That took bloody ages that did, so I hope it can promote some discussion on the summer festivals this year.

This write up of the different line ups is far from comprehensive, I've missed off all the bands either not designated to a certain stage yet or playing below second stage due to not wishing to spend another hour typing this up.

So, is anyone on here going/planning on going to any of these festivals? If you are, or aren't far that matter what are your thoughts on the differing line ups for this year? Better/worse than last year?

I'm throughly excited for Reading this year: Pearl Jam, The Raconteurs, Placebo, Peaches, Slayer, Coheed & Cambria and Belle and Sebastian leave me with a sense of childlike joy about the festival that I haven't felt towards it for a long time now. I didn't manage to get my ticket though as I was working in London that week, so looks like Ebay again for me this year.

I'm going Leeds. I was originally planning to go to Reading instead, but ended up changing last minute. You will be happy to know, G Money, that a new batch of tickets will, apparently, be going on sale this Tuesday, due to the capacity being increased. I dunno if you got on the waiting list, but if you did you can ring up before then.

I like the lineup. I was pretty disappointed to start with, but I'm satisfied. Weren't the Flaming Lips and Tool rumoured, though? What happened there?

Is it just Leeds that the capacity has been increased for? I'm not so up for going to Leeds as all my friends and people I camp with will be Reading bound. It makes more sense for me to geta Reading ticket, even if it isn't through official channels. If the Reading capacity has been increased then huzzah, as I have my name on that waiting list.

I too was at first disapointed by the first wave of line up, but am so psyched now for it. All I need now to be added is Art Brut, Soulwax, LCD Soundsystem and The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster and I think I could probably die a happy man after the festival.

Have you been to Reading/Leeds before Dark Age?

I haven't heard of The Fall before, what are they like?

I usually like to investigate as many of the bands that are playing the festival that I haven't heard of, this is a good a place as any to start I think.

One of the greats, but either way you'll know if you like them or not straight away. I recommend Grotesque... and This Nation's Saving Grace but the newest, last year's Fall Heads Roll is frigging superb, and probably as good a starting point. Download the Jools Holland performance of 'Blindness' if you can.

I'm going to Reading festival since its a ten minute drive from my house. Plus Coheed & Cambria and the Ranconters will be at the radio 1 stage while the bottle throwing masses will be seeing crap like the Streets and Arctic monkeys

I'll go to download on the sunday (with G N'R being the only reason to go) if I can find anyone to go with me.

Was it really necessary to quote all that?

Also, I got ahold of a couple of songs by The Fall, pretty good. I should be pretty much glued to the Radio 1 stage on Saturday at Reading.

Same, except going to the main stage to see Wolfmother I'm pretty much going to be at the radio 1 stage.

Unless they announce some good acts for the lock up stage.

I'll definatly check out Floggin Molly as well to start the Saturday, I've heard nothing but good things about them live.

I'm hoping for Send More Paramedics to play the Lock Up Stage, they're good news.

Funeral For A Friend have had their slot moved from Friday before the Deftones to being second headliners before Gun's N' Roses.

Urgh.

Update: New additions to the Reading line up added. Specifically the dance tent.

I was throughly excited when I heard Soulwax were running the show, until i found out they would be clashing with Pearl Jam. Boo-urns.

I'm going to Rock En Seine in Paris. Radiohead, Beck, Morrissey, Richard Ashcroft. Plus Broken Social Scene, Skin, DJ Shadow and The Raconteurs on the undercard. Should be decent.

I'm also goinf to the Orange Ashton Court Festival, as it's round the corner from me, but no line-up yet.

I envy you getting to see Beck. So good live, in my experience anyway.

Yeah, I saw him at Reading in 2000. Very good. Not so good in 2002 (IIRC) or solo with Radiohead, but he puts on a good party show, espacially at festivals.

Out of acts I haven't seen before, DJ Shadow is the one guy on that line-up I'm looking forward to seeing the most.

I'm willing to swim across the Atlantic to go to the Download festival. Why can't a festival like that be put together stateside for all us Yanks?

Annoying thing, since Audioslave came out if you listen to old RATM songs, you can hear them in the backing. It kinda ruins the classics.
