What is the future of the Smackdown Main Event?

Recommended Posts

Seriously, with Angle Injured, Orton Suspended, and Batista out, look what twe're left with, a World Champ who wouldn't pass as a Junior Heavyweight anywhere in the world, main eventing a PPV against a guy who prior to Wrestlemania was jobbing to every other guy on the roster in the lower-mid card. We're seriously just something putting out JBL, and an injury to Booker T, away from having Finlay vs Rey as the Main Event of next months PPV (which would kick seven different kinds of ass mind you), but still. Where does the Smackdown Main Event go from here? Is Summerslam going to end up being Batista vs Rey? What if Orton never comes back? Are we gonna have to endure Batista vs Khali? Batista vs Undertaker? Maybe I ought to just give up on American Wrestling.

If booked correctly, the draft could fix all of Smackdown's problems.

IF booked correctly.

If they booked SD correctly, there would be no problems.

A Rey/Benoit program can last you a while. Kennedy and Batista are coming back soon and guys like JBL and Booker T could be given title shots with no complaints. I don't think they really need the draft, but Edge just going over by himself could also help SD a lot. Personally, I think he should've gone over last year, but it could still work now.

With the lottery it will add something new.

Lashley may be hurried for a push

if anything.....it's a good thing it will

force someone to step it up

Is there going to be a draft lottery this year, though? They haven't announced or even hinted at anything yet.

Frankly, I wouldn't miss it. It just ends up creating a lot of weirdness on both shows. I'm still of the opinion that Batista and Cena shouldn't have switched shows, since Cena fit so much better on Smackdown than RAW.

Well, Batista is supposed to be coming back in a month or two. They got Benoit and Booker, but they're doing jackshit with them.

I heard RVD might be coming over to SD in a few months to help salvage the top scene since Angle's injured.

You know other than jobbing to the Boogeyman, I don't think JBL was treated that badly since being out of the main event scene.

A theory I've been tossing around in my head for a few days...what if we're seeing the end of the split coming? After all, Smackdown is in major trouble right now and with the return of ECW on the horizon...could we see RVD win the title at ONS, and then eventually take it with him to declare himself the ECW World champ? Maybe do a Shane Douglas-type moment where he throws down the World belt for the EC Dub version?

After that and we determine who is ECW bound, are there going to be enough wrestlers left after that for RAW and Smackdown extensions?

I wonder if they're going to get the ECW world title off Rhyno or just re-create their own version of it.

It's kinda hard to get the ECW title off Rhino considering he's in TNA.

The main reason I think they have to go with RVD/JBL is that I have no idea why they'd put the belt back on Bradshaw unless they were doing this scenario. There's really nowhere else you can go with JBL.

I can't see how they will set up RVD/Cena if that is the plan. It's one of those ideas that sounds funny in terms of Cena getting trashed, but I can't see Vince allowing Cena to be beat down and humiliated to the degree necessary.

I'm actually more inclined to believe Keller than Meltzer on this one. A couple of days after Keller reported that JBL would beat Rey and then badmouth ECW again (thus setting up JBL/RVD), wwe.com announces that very match for Judgment Day.

I think they should send Kane to SD! to help spice up the main event. They have him stuck in that stupid May 13th or whatever storyline, atleast he'd be a breath of fresh air if he goes to SD!, because he has never been on SD!. But they rather have him go in another stupid Katie Vick storyline.

If Kane goes to SD you know they'd just feud him with UT again. Do we really need that?

Doubt that...

They will have Taker busy with the Giant Dufus until after the summer.

I thought Rhino's ECW belts got stolen from his apartment.

If that's true.... wow that sucks!

As people have said before the draft lottery could fix the problems of SmackDown if its done right. And there are several people which WWE dont use to their full potential:

Main eventers right now:

Rey (even though not a good heavyweight champ I would still consider him at good ME).

Batista - injured

Angle - injured

Undertaker (part time only)

People WWE could do alot more with than they are right now:

Benoit

Booker T

Finlay

People with potential to be built to ME status:

Ken Kennedy (alot of people seem high on this guy, me not included, but I guess he could be good since he does seem to win over quite a fanbase)

Lashley

And then if they have a draft this year (which they pretty much have to have) one or several of the following would be good fits for SD:

HBK - I hate his staleness on RAW and his boring face persona. Turn him heel and put him on SD and scrap the DX stuff (which will only work as nostalgia)

Kane - I have disliked him since he lost his mask but he would be fresh for SD thats for sure and the change would benefit both SD and Kane himself.

Those two are the obvious ones. I'd like to see Cena on SD since he did fit better there but maybe he wont now after a year on RAW and all of what that has meant to his development. Carlito also was a good SD fit but a move now might slow him down a bit too much.

Also let Foley do a program on SD. He shouldnt be RAW bould since he's just in there for one shot deals.

I think Smackdown is a little bit better of than RAW, but that's not saying much. Smackdown can have Rey, Benoit, JBL, Undertaker, I think Batista is coming back within a few weeks or so, and even Booker T and Finlay if they wanted too. RAW has Cena, Edge, HHH, HBK, ....Big Show?

I really dont understand some of the bookings of the main event players. How many matches did we get between Henry and Taker for an instance? I think 4. And after their blowoff match at WM we got another match between the two on tv the next week.

We also got Rey vs Henry like 3 times this year already without them really feuding over anything.

And then they have booked the same ending to two shows. Henry splashing Taker on the announcers table. And then a couple of weeks ago the same thing but Angle taking the splash.

I dont quite understand why they do the same thing so many times.

We've all seen Vince and Shane as heel authority figures way too many times over the years, in addition to Vince making out with WWE divas on-camera.

Vince really doesn't know how to evolve.

Totally, and Booker vs Benoit also comes to mind. They met 5 times in their best of 7. I believe they met numerous times before that as well as after that. No matter how good a angle might be it will become boring if its done to death. I too am sick of the general manager charachters in general not just RAW. Teddy Long doesnt do anything special either. Usually he makes tag-matches when there is a wild brawl due to interference in a singels match or he messes with the heels that mess with him.
