AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2006 Ubisoft announced the development of a new video game franchise: Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed is being developed for PLAYSTATION 3 by an all-star team from Ubisoft’s world-class Montreal studio – the studio responsible for acclaimed franchises such as Prince of Persia and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. The Assassin’s Creed franchise will combine compelling new gameplay, superb graphics, and an immersive and sophisticated storyline to deliver an epic experience that will launch the action genre into the next generation and beyond. “Assassin’s Creed is going to push the video game experience as we know it today into an entirely new direction,” said Yannis Mallat, chief executive officer at Ubisoft’s Montreal studio. “Assassin’s Creed’s compelling theme and storyline experienced through the next-generation console will captivate audiences and affect them on the same level as an epic novel or film.” The first game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history. Guest Coffey Report post Posted May 8, 2006 "From the creators of Prince of Persia" my ass. It IS Prince of Persia. Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2006 There's going to be a more heavy emphasis on stealth, actually. Notice he's packing daggers and knives, not swords. Obviously the time gimmick won't be in place. Also, the physics involved in maneuvering through crowds and navagating organic environments is supposed to be a heavy focus. Neo-PoP minus much of the oft-frustrating combat? Yes, please! However, when I first saw the game, I couldn't help but think of this picture: http://www.motoko.it/images/morpheus/princeofpersia2.jpg
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 From everything I have seen this game looks absolutely awesome. The graphics are amazing. Since I am getting a PS3 next week, 2-3 days after this game is released, I might have to forget about Ratchet & Clank until Christmas and buy Assassins Creed with my system instead. Of course, Ratchet & Clank has already gotten a bunch of very good reviews, and there is still the potential for Assassins Creed to LOOK GREAT but suck anyways. I guess I will just have to read a bunch of reviews on Tue/Wed and make my decision on which game to get then.
Thoth 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 It's sad that Ubisoft seems so interested in spoiling the story to their own game.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 These guys gave Assassins Creed a 10/10 http://www.gamestracker.com/int/extmain.asp?idu=7933696
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2007 Game Informer gave it a 9.5/10. I anxiously await a review from a really trustworthy site/mag. However, I can see the way the wind is blowing, and as I expected this game is going to be awesome--despite bitching, moaning, and whining from NeoGAF nerds at how the game is going to be the worst game ever because some old gameplay videos looked rough. However, I hope this game is a lot less buggier than previous Ubi Montreal games. Naruto is pretty tight, though. Assassin's Galaxy is going to be the best gaming week of the year. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 GH3 and Halo 3 will have to be put on the shelf for the next couple of months. Creed this week, Mass Effect next week. Damn it feels good to be a gamer.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Yeah, my mind is about made up. I think when I purchase a PS3 next week, Assassin's Creed is what I am getting. I could get a second game as well, and just hold off on getting a second controller, which might actually be a good idea since Assassin's Creed & Ratchet & Clank are both one player games anyway. I think the wireless controllers are $50, which is just about the price of a game anyway.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Anyone know if the DS version of this game is going to be any good? It's supposed to be a Feb release and no screens have been shown yet. So it's up in the air.

Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Man, I'll I've been hearing from Gamestop is "Oh yeah, it'll be out on the 13th" which is great because it's a day off for me so I can spend all day playing it. So what happens? A day before it's alleged release date, commercials and online ads start saying "Available November 14th." Shit. I do like the commercial with what sounds like the theme to "House" though.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 The ads I've been seeing say "in store November 14th." Meaning 13th is the ship date. If you're in a major city, you may get it, but if you're not (like me) it means there's a slim chance they'll have it but most likely not.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Yeah, I get the whole ship date/available thing. but they specifically said that I would have my copy in my hands on the 13th. I'm going to go over there tomorrow while I'm out and bug them about it, but I don't expect anything to come out of it. It will give me an excuse to get sarcastic and mildly irritated, which makes for a good day in my book, so I guess that's something at least.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 It seems with video games, they ship on Tuesdays, but there is no way for the stores to know what time the shipments will actually arrive, so while they very well may get it on the 13th, they won't guarantee anything until the 14th. In the past I know when stores got it early, they would call people on the pre-order list and tell them they could come in and get it once it was available. Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 ...and GameSpot gave it a 9.0, and they're usually much tougher on games. I'm thinking that this will be a love it or just like it game, depending on what you're looking for. I picked it up on my lunch break, but I haven't tried it out yet. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 The score itself is pretty meaningless, but the pre-embargo scores vs. post-embargo scores are rather suspect. However, the game is very good, even if the game may have been overhyped by Ubi marketing dopes, who apparently dreamed up the brilliant plan to bring some airheaded female figurehead to do PR for the project. The reviews gripe about the combat and enemy a.i.--and yeah, the combat mechanics are kind of flaky and generally enemies will fight you one-on-one even if you're surrounded. However, the things that I was looking forward to in the game--the huge, explorable environments (where you can climb nearly everything) with terrific art design is there, along with the varied play mechanics for both exploration and stealth. Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Give this a quick read: http://www.penny-arcade.com/2007/11/14#1195073220 I don't want to go into why I like AC so much, but let's just say that I'm very pleased. I meant to just stick this game in and play for a short while, but I ended up playing for about 3+ hours. I just put Mario in so I could get at least a half hour of play out of that, but I fully intended to split the time between the two, but AC really hooked me in. Ignore any negative reviews for this one, and at least try it out somehow. The game gets better as it goes on as well, at least to me. It's not the best game ever, but it's certainly one of the "must-play" games of 2007. I better play as much of this, and Mario, as I can before next week, because then I'll have that blasted Rock Band game also...and I still want Bioshock, COD4, Smackdown vs. RAW 08, Fire Pro Wrestling, Mass Effect, and AGHHHHHHHHHHH, too many games right now!!! Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Gotten through the first couple of assassinations, and the "repetitive" complaints are pretty accurate. There's any number of ways you can go about doing the actual assassination, but getting to that point involves doing the same sort of missions (hitman, pickpocket, interrogation). Plus, if you want to maximize your life, you'll want to do every last one of the missions. It's still not bacd, and the climbing around is fun as hell as are the counters (the short swords has some of my favorites) but so far it's not quite all that I had hoped. I'm still trying to figure out how the frame story is going to work itself out. I know how I want it to go, but I guess I'll have to wait and see.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 It's more or less what I've been thinking, indirectly, already. Sandbox games don't lend themselves well to speeding through, when most of the point is the freedom of the environments and planning your game around the missions you want to do and when. A sandbox game where you have to do stealth quite a bit too, well, even more so. Crackdown I played 1-2 hours a day, sometimes much longer on days off, slowly taking down the kingpins one by one and finally finishing it about 2 weeks after purchase. I'd heard other folks who "finished" it in 6 hours and, unsurprisingly, didn't like it, while it was one of my favorite games of the year.

BUTT 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 The score itself is pretty meaningless, but the pre-embargo scores vs. post-embargo scores are rather suspect. However, the game is very good, even if the game may have been overhyped by Ubi marketing dopes, who apparently dreamed up the brilliant plan to bring some airheaded female figurehead to do PR for the project. I was wondering about that. How involved, exactly, is Jade in the process of making this game? She's listed as the "producer", and she's the one doing all the interviews about the game. But is she really the lead creative force behind it or is it just Ubi playing the "HEY LOOK THIS GAME WAS MADE BY A HOT CHICK" card. And besides being a G4 host, what exactly has she ever done?
