Guest NYankees Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I read that MI 3 has made over 200 million worldwide and that Poseidon cost 150 million to make.
Gary Floyd Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 I just want to mention that Poseidon looks dreadful.
razazteca Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 The general public is not ready for Josh Lucas, action star.
2GOLD Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Poor Lohan lost her body and she may have lost her drawing power. She was in the only couples movie in theaters and could only manage 5 million. Granted it may also just be a case of a movie looking really BAD. Poseidon may have also suffered from in a lot of the previews, you had no CLUE who was starring in it. It was like, "hey look, a boat flips and that guy from Homicide says things!"
razazteca Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Lohan lost her "Dateline internet stalker" fanbase when she went blond.
Slayer Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Lohan lost her "Dateline internet stalker" fanbase when she went blond. Lohan lost her body
Guest NYankees Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Poseidon is also a remake. Plus wasn't there a tv Poseidon last year? Lohan has lost all drawing power. I didn't even see this movie promoted and forgot that it came out this weekend.
Kahran Ramsus Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Did we really need another Poseidon Adventure film? It wasn't like they had a lot of room to play around with the original story, as it was pretty much non-existant in the first place.
cabbageboy Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Besides Lohan's body and her hair I just don't think anyone can take her remotely seriously in an adult role. It's almost a bizarre reverse of the usual trend: Teen star hangs on to that demographic too long, can't get any roles beyond the HS flicks, etc. Here she is trying to leap quickly into adult roles without much in the way of transitions. And yes, Josh Lucas sucks. I'll put it this way about the guy: The first thing I saw him in was Sweet Home Alabama, and I wanted Reese Witherspoon to end up with Patrick Dempsey instead of him.
Mole Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Poseidon reminds me of Titanic. Is the box-office down this year? It seems like the numbers were a lot higher last year.
bob_barron Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 No, the box office has been consistently beating 2005. Don't you remember- 2005 was OMG NO ONE IS GOING TO THE MOVIES OMG
Hawk 34 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I think the movie industry is the only business where you make billions and people claim the boat is sinking.
Special K Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 But... But... the Lohan movie has a stuntman doing a shooting-star press! ***
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Yeah, i'm pretty sure we all know what's opening up at #1 next weekend... Hint: It doesn't have Tom Hanks or Bruce Willis as a Racoon in it...
Special K Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 DaVinci code will outgross X3. Bank on it. X3 may have a bigger opening weekend.... all comic book movies do. Not that I'm going to the movies anytime soon. Movie theatres fucking suck. Poseiden looks like fucking shit.
Guest NYankees Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I can see X3 doing 200-250 million. Da Vinci Code should do 200 million plus for it's run.
cabbageboy Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 DaVinci Code is hard to predict. Will the so called controversy help the film at the box office, or will it hurt the film? Catholic boycotts used to be a huge deal for Hollywood (The Legion of Decency after all made Hollywood enforce the Production Code), but I'm not sure the same would hold today.
bob_barron Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 DaVinci is going to have a huge opening week. It's like Harry Potter- people who read the book want to see it, who people who have heard of the fuss but never bothered to read the book now really want to see it.
Hawk 34 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Bob is right, DVC has a built in fanbase just like XMen and unlike Harry Potter, DVC was an adult hit so you draw that crowd while the dorks and teens flock to XMen. Both movies will have really healthy openings.
