TWiB #7: 5/15 - 5/21

Recommended Posts

I just read the two-headed monster of Andy McPhail and Jim Hendry cursed out some of the Tribune staff last week over their negative commentary on the Cubs' recent play.

Because, I guess they were in the wrong for pointing out flaws even unintelligent fans can see. Or something.

I could deal with the team being bad if the powers that be would take responsibility for anything they're doing wrong. Anything. Instead, it's always someone else's fault or just a matter of needing Player X to come back.

This isn't just a matter of Dusty; this team isn't doing anything but sinking until they grow up and do something about the glaring holes and flaws eaten their season alive. Yelling at a beat writer for rightfully criticizing Jacque Jones' Moises Alou impersonation on the basepaths isn't the right start, either.

The 'Stros won 5-3 over the Rangers in the "Roger Clemens/Silver Boot/I-45" Series. Adam Everett had a game winning 3 RBI double in the bottom of the 8th. Lidge got his first save since May 4th striking out two and getting a popup. He's back to looking sharp. Apparently, his problem was that he was working exclusively from the stretch and was tipping his slider. "Super" Joe McEwing helped him to realize this, and Lidge has gone back the full windup and is looking like his Lights Out self again. As a final note to Springergate 2006, Russ isn't going to appeal his suspension, so I guess that pretty much settles it as being intentional, but I really don't think he would've gotten any suspension if he would've hit say...Mike Matheny or somebody. Either way, I really, really enjoyed seeing Barry Bonds get hit.

In other news, how bout this Francisco Liriano, huh?

Who the hell is this beat writer that's criticizing the Cubs? Mariotti is at the Sun-Times, Bruce Miles at the Daily Herald, it seems like all the other Cub writers are towing the company line. cubs.com is the biggest offender; that site couldn't read more like Pravda if it was written in the Cyrillic alphabet. Man.

EDIT: Oh, Paul Sullivan. He isn't very good.

The Blue Jays called up Ty Taubenheim to replace Gustavo Chacin. He'll start today against the Rockies.

I'm excited to see this guy pitch. He's looked amazing at AAA Syracuse this season. Shame his first start has to come in Coors Field.

This is why guaranteed contracts suck. Pavano just keeps stealing money.

Guaranteed contracts can suck, but he isn't stealing shit. What possessed the Yankees to throw 39 mil at a guy who'd had exactly one good full season in the majors?

Stupidity. Granted he's had some arm trouble, but since when is a sore buttock reason enough to miss significant time? I generally don't question the heart of an athlete but Pavano just seems like he's perfectly content signing paychecks with his bad elbow.

Hmmm, this also sounds similar to Jaret Wright.

Goody, FOX's Game of the Week starts today. I missed Buck, McCarver, and Jeannie ZachariasMoussaui.

Wait, no I didn't.

Awesome defense by Cliff Floyd. When you can't put your bat on the ball, why bother trying to get your glove on it either right?

Wow...the Yankees look bad.

If Sheffield doesn't come back soon, and RJ continues to blow game after game, there's going to be a big spending spree.

Oh, and Pavano and Wright are worthless. Carl Pavano should just be paid/fired.

Wow, what a dirty sucker punch by Barrett of the Cubs. That's a 20 game suspension right there. What a fucking douche.

Oh please. Twenty games? Gimmie a break. It was uncalled for, but 20 games? Whatever.

How does AJ get the gate for getting punched in the face? That's just retarded.

I meant to type a 10 game suspension. My bad.

That was a bit excessive, though. He grabbed him, then punched him clean in the face. That was the cleanest hit I've ever seen in a baseball brawl, I think. Even better than Ryan/Ventura.

Simon Diamond should use that for his TNAtron.

Yes, 20 games. When you hold someone in place for 2 seconds, then punch him in the face, you are bush league.

He didn't need to be such a pompus ass about it. I'm not condoning it, but the guy's a fucking prick.

And now we're probably gonna see the likes of Freddie Bynum in this game.

Damn, to bad I am at work and can't see the fight. I suppose I will be seeing it for several days on ESPN.

You only missed a sucker punch. A weak one, at that. Clean, but weak.

Come on now. Short of whipping out his dick and cockslapping him, there was no reason to do that. Barrett's going to get a teammate hit in the head before this series is over too because Ozzie won't let that shit slide.

I agree. Ozzie needs to take someone down for that.

Pedro is dominating the Yanks.

Funny how it takes five walks and a grand slam for Rich Hill to locate the plate. Schmuck should stop nibbling.

Anyway, I'd say this is about as rock bottom as I can recall this team hitting in the 12+ years I've watched them.

Hopefully some of you guys are seeing first-hand what people like me and Czech have been talking about all season. Down 5-0 and our number nine hitter's swinging for the fences. Forget taking pitches, too.

There isn't a player in baseball that deserves a punch in the face more than A.J. How about a knee in the balls next time?

Delgado barely swung at that ball and drove it 398 feet the opposite way. That dude is as strong as an ox.
