Damaramu Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 So basically Porter told me that if I gave up beef it could help me get in better shape. Then I was told this by many other people. So I decided "what the hell?" and gave it up. I've been beef free for a week now. Has anyone else decided to give up the red meat? Was it tough? Did you notice any physical changes(i'm not just talking exterior. i heard it's better for your intestines)? Did you ever just have to have a hamburger?
Paul Stanley Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I can't live without steak. But, i would go on a ALL-CHICKEN diet.
Darthtiki Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I've lessened the beef intake, but until the supplier of Chili's Black Bean patties put them in the frozen aisle you'll never take my burgers away.
Guest Vitamin X Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 No, I'd probably refuse to do this, but it's nice to lessen the intake. Steak and burgers are just too good to give up. And I eat a pretty balanced diet anyways, my problem with losing the 10-15 pounds I want to has more to do with getting off my lazy ass and exercising.
Golgo 13 Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Tried it a few years ago. I mean completely. I didn't like it. Give me meat. Yeah, just try reducing your intake.
MDH257 Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I once went a year where (if you don't count the meat at Taco Bell) I could count the number of times I had red meat on my fingers . I did some jogging a couple of time a week and by the end I the year I had lost about 30 lbs. I'm not sure how much cutting out meat had to do with the weight loss, but I know physically "felt" better even though I mentally really missed hamburgers.
EricMM Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 How often do you all eat it then? I would say maybe a few times a week...
Damaramu Posted May 16, 2006 Author Report Posted May 16, 2006 Beef? Before I gave it up at least 6 times a week. Sometimes multiple times in one day.
NoCalMike Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 My girlfriend's brother gave up pork about a year ago. I could easily give up pork before beef.
CanadianChris Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I eat mostly lean beef and pork now. It's the higher-fat stuff you normally get in restaurants (because of the lower price) that'll get you.
Damaramu Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 Over a week beef free. 2 weeks on Sunday.
EricMM Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating lean beef protein. Jerkey, roast beef, etc. Sausage and burger is pretty high in fat, you know. The difference between the caloric content of fat and muscle is staggering.
CanadianChris Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Not to mention that lean beef is one of the best sources of iron there is.
nl5xsk1 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I've cut most of the beef out of my diet over the last few years of my life. I haven't quit it altogether, but just greatly cut down on my intake. It's gotten to the point that I buy Boca Burgers at the grocery store and grill them instead of a real meat burger. (hooking up with a vegetarian girl will have that effect on a guy). But if I'm out for dinner, I have no problems with ordering steak tips or a burger. And eating it only a couple of times a month makes it kind of a 'treat' when I eat it.
Guest Vitamin X Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Boca burgers are great, actually. I usually made them in the microwave for a minute and a half (which is all I think it needS) and put it on wheat bread with lettuce, ranch and/or mustard. Good snack.
NoCalMike Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 Hippies... Oh look, MikeSC is back at TSM.....
daileyxplanet Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 I was a vegetarian for about a month, and everyone made fun of me at my open house 'cause I'm fat and they were surprised I didn't want to drink gallons of beef gravy or some crap like that.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Love me some meat. If it can be killed, I'll probably eat it.
