Not only did Kane squash the champ in spite of the May 19th voices of death, but he beat up the #1 contender as well. And they didn't even explain the significance of May 19th! The Finlay/Booker vs. Benoit/Scott match was pretty good. Would've been better if Booker got the win to complete the story of 2 vets taking advantage of a rookie after cheating to take out his better partner. Oh well. Hopefully Booker wins KOTR to compensate.
haws bah gawd Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Gunner Scott seemed pretty impressive in the ring last night. Using him as Benoit's protege could lead to some interesting storylines, and a pretty good, if cliche, mentor vs trainee match at a future PPV. Gunner just needs to get new tights. The bullet holes on the legs look pretty neat, but the GUNNER in a 'kaboom-font' looks kind of silly.

I'm a muslim so I understand what the words mean, and I can tell you right now the only affect of having it in there is to offend. Honestly, I know we say this alot on these boards, but WWE really is messed up.

WWE has acknowledged that they are the same title, even going so far as to list the champions back to 1975 on WWE.com. The WWE's World Heavyweight Championship is different from the original WCW one, though. It's lineage began with Triple H in 2002, it even shows that on WWE.com, so TECHNICALLY... JBL would be the first man to be U.S. and WWE World Heavyweight Champion at the same time. Just saying. Now I have a question... has anyone been WWE Champion and Intercontinental Champion at the same time (besides I think Ultimate Warrior)?

Just John Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Khali adds nothing to the WWE product. There's absolutely nothing they can do with Khali that they couldn't do with Big Show if they wanted. Show even has more mobility, moves, comedic talent, can take a bump, and is more careful in the ring. Calling Khali a "valuable asset" sounds like the call of a rebel smark who just wants to be different. And I think the prayer was the same one they used in the Hassan/UT video package when they got to the clips of UT being beat down by the "terrorists."

There's only one guy they have that size, and he (Big Show) is rather fat. At least in WWE, nothing has been shown that he isn't careful in the ring, and won't be hurting people with his lack of skill. I doubt WWE would keep him around if he would still be hurting wrestlers. And that's all that matters to me.

Because it automatically conveys the message of Muslims = bad. It'd be like having, say, the Lord's Prayer over a video package of two heels. No, wait. It'd be like having the Lord's prayer over a video package of two WHITE heels in a country where the dominant religion is Islam, and the audience don't really speak English. So the very SOUND of the Lord's prayer is identified with bad guys, without any attention paid to the meaning or intention. They wouldn't even have to be obviously Christian heels (with Mordecai, for example, I could see a reason - he was a religious zealot, someone who took it beyond what it was intended to mean), they'd just be white and therefore Christian, and therefore bad. The chain of logic in both those examples is simplistic and offensive, and I'm annoyed that one of them exists.

I also suspect the reason he hasn't hurt anyone yet is because he has done nothing since showing up. If you saw the "hype" package for Khali on SD last night, at least half of it was the head chop or a kick to the face. I guess he also has that choke powerbomb where his opponent just sits on his shoulders for a few seconds before falling backwards. Khali might have an intimidating look, but when your primary job is to, you know, wrestle, a look doesn't do that much for you. I'm not saying he has to be Benoit in the ring, but when his offense consists of one chop, one kick, and one kinda-powerbomb-ish thing, that's detrimental to his duties as a wrestler. He also seems to have trouble getting the heat that an upper-midcard heel should have.
