OAO "WWE .VS. ECW Special" Thread - June/7th/06.

Recommended Posts

Because Jerry Lawler, a 55 yr. old man, threw one of the best punches in WWE history. You could hear the sound on TV. Lawler came out of that segment looking tougher while Tazz looked much weaker because his punches didn't seem as lethal and he struggled against a practical senior citizen.

Yea, I think you're strongly over-exaggerating that punch to call it one of the best in WWE history. I mean, the guy hit him in the neck for one. And for Tazz, who barely even has a neck, that's one off target punch.

And even if it was supposed to be legit. (Saying, if this was two random dudes fighting in the street) wouldnt you say Tazz had the better of the two punches? Since he actually knocked his man down, with one hit. Whereas TAzz was barely moved.

It's all moot in the long run anyway. Will Tazz's fans care enough to let their perception of him shatter? No. Will the marks aka the majority who already see Tazz as just an announcer care? No. That is if either group even noticed the earth-shattering, reality-bending punch from Lawler in the first place. It's just an exchange and brawl when all is said and done and once Tazz and Lawler both go back to being has beens in the booth it'll all be forgotten and ultimately inconsequential.

He's going to destroy Lawler, but the whole idea of the segment was to make people want to pay 40 bucks to see him do it.

But Tazz came across as a loser in that segment and who wants to get behind a loser.

Oh my God you are so fucking wrong. No one came off looking as weak in that segment, NO ONE! No one out looking strong either. If anything the segment basically told fans, expect a fight between the two, it was like a preview, but no one got "buried" or made to look weak, like you said Tazz was and no one was put over stronger than the other one either. Your statement is so fucking pointless, you can't prove that Tazz looked weaker and your only defense about it is "OMG Tazz got hit by a guy whose 55 year's old and it was stiff!!!!11". Your statement is just stupid.

I fail to see how that Lawler-Tazz pullapart hurt either guy. What I do see, however, is that strummer and Cowboy should not be let near computers, anytime. Ever. Valium guys, take some.

If Lawler's punch is so amazing, how would taking it on the jaw and not leaving your feet make you a pussy?

If Lawler's punch is a "legendary blow" that was heard around the world, why is Tazz still standing? Shouldn't that make him seem tougher.

Aren't you assuming that both are looked at the same level? You don't think Tazz is seen as much tougher than the joke cracking Lawler? Tazz came in with more credibility than Lawler and lost some after the segment was over.

How did he "lose" it? by taking a shot and not falling down?

Damn yes that is wimpy - he should have pointed at Lawler and shouted "YOU!" while Tazzing up.

All this "one of the greatest punches ever!" - yet Tazz didn't go down to it. . . and he's a wimp exactly how?

Stop with the logic, guys. You're blowing my mind.

You honestly don't think that was a great punch by Lawler? Lawler throws some of the greatest punches in history. Tazz didn't "fall down" So what that doesn't mean it wasn' t a great punch and stunned him. And Tazz did more than "barely move". His knees buckled and he had to hold the table for support. Lawler came out looking much better.

See in the buissness, we call it the art of selling.

The first thing I thought was "oh man, he's still standing, he shoulda known not to fuck with Taz" when Lawler tried to deck 'im. Get over yourselves, guys.

Ah but if it's such a great punch and Taz took it and kept standing (no matter how)

HOW DOES THAT MAKE HIM A PUSSY?

please unravel that logic for me.

I don't deny that it was a good punch, but not as amazing as you make it out to be.

Remember...Lawler did deliver a slap to Andy Kaufman so well, that people still argue if it was legit.

I'm still failing to see any man stronger from the segment, and have watched it a few times over to be sure. If the majority here sees no credibility lost, the marks won't give the whole brawl a second thought besides "ppv build"

Thats what I've been trying to figure out. As far as I can tell its because Jerry Lawler, a 55 year old man punched Tazz.

How could any of you possibly believe that Tazz will destroy Lawler at ONS2? Do you not remember his strong debut, being in 3 way matches with the likes of Rock and Angle on Smackdown and immediately feuding with Lawler whom he LOST to? Tazz at his strongest point in WWE could not beat Lawler. He was actually in SHAPE, fresh and looked on by WWE booking as a bad-ass. I don't even know if he will win Sunday.

This special was more entertaining than any Raw or Smackdown that I've seen in a long time. I had an nWo mark-out moment as well when Big Show turned and I thought Orton and Foley's promos were both great. Hopefully now Randy picks up his in-ring game and keeps it up.

The only negative thing to come out of this is another main eventer taken from SD. They need to move someone like Carlito across in the very near future.

1) Is Scroby a wrestler? If not, can he please stop saying "in the business". Thank you in advance.

2) Why is everybody still blowing their load about Joey Styles "shooting"? He's shooting on the people who pay his wages and will continue to pay his wages. He's not about to leave. He's not wanting to leave. All he's doing is putting himself over. He proved he was a sell out by signing for Raw in the first place and yet one worked shoot smark pleasing promo later and he instantly restores his credibility? Tazz won't lose any credibility either way (and he won't, which 2a. is a dumb arguement in the first place) because obviously people are blind to everything ECW.

3) Big Show's "link" to ECW is so paper thin it's laughable that anyone's accepting it as even consolation. He's a WCW wrestler who went to the WWF, aka WWE. How does that make him ECW material exactly?

4) I'm so unenamoured with this "ECW" crap, I'm beginning to devlop near Leena like (plutonic) fanship for Randy Orton.

5) How sad is it that the only things remotely selling this PPV judging from this thread are Mick Foley (semi-retired, incapable of regular competition) and Jerry Lawler (semi-retired, announcer, 50 + years old)?

6) I didn't watch the show and watched ECW House Party '98 instead. It was a bit of a mess, but at least it was ACTUALLY ECW.

Orton gave me tingly feelings when he said that he'd kill the legend of ECW. I just hope he'll back it up in the ring now otherwise I'm gonna have to tell everyone I was just faking to try and be cool.

I'm fairly sure he actually is.

I have mixed feelings about Orton apparantly going to Raw. On the one hand, Smackdown loses another star, but on the other hand, Smackdown loses Randy Orton. Marked out for the Big Show turning ECW, because I did not see it coming at all. Styles shooting was fun, as was him knocking J.R.'s hat off.

And, damn, that was an awesome punch by the King.

re: SD's declining ratings mentioned earlier: I'm sure I've read somewhere that ratings have actually been better with Batista and then Rey on top as opposed to Guerrero and then JBL.

I'm not a full time wrestler, I am on the other hand in training and I've taken bumps and weapon shots for angles and matches, and I've been in and out of the business working shows since the end of 2003. So yes I am in the business.
