John Cena -- One person's thoughts

Recommended Posts

In regards to ONS, that match was booked almost entirely wrong. They made Cena look almost too good in the match, gave him entirely too much offense, and RVD didn't get in half the stuff I was hoping. I was wanting this insanely epic encounter where RVD hit the Van Terminator, Van Daminator, did the crazy somersault into the 5th row....and we didn't really get all that.

As far as RVD goes, I don't understand why people denigrate him for doing the same spots. It's called his moveset. Every notable wrestler has his spots that he works into a match. And of late we saw a variation on Rolling Thunder where RVD is on the middle rope and covers the length of the ring.

Dont bother, these Cena fans are wearing blinders.

Questions for the Cena dissers. Please answer honostly. This is for my curiosity.

1A)Do you turn the product off when Cena comes on the Tv Screen or do you stay and watch? B)Were you legit watching the product in the first place anyway? C)If whatever wrestler Raw wrestler you wanted was put on top of the card would you watch than?

2)Do you think yourself as a Cena disser are getting brilliantly worked to actually legit boo against the man?

3)Let's say Cena were surrounded by considerably better wrestlers, charactors and booking on the Raw show. Right now the product is horrible but let's just say we could have a perfect world for a second. There is a possiblitly that Cena's current gimmick would work even better in this enviornment. Do you agree or disagree?

1) If someone I like is in the same segment, I'll stay, but otherwise, I'll usually switch off and check back a few minutes later to see if he's done.

2) No, I don't think WWE are that smart, I also don't think having a champion that divides the fanbase is as great as everybody else here does.

3) Only if he was full blown heel, because his stale character and lack of wrestling ability would really stick out in a perfect promotion. If he was heel, then it would work, but as face, no.

1) a) Cena actually got me to quit watching Raw for quite a while through the fall. After Summerslam, I stopped following the product closely at all until I heard that Edge won the title at NYR. b) Yes, I was watching the product beforehand, the Batista/HHH feud had rekindled my interest. When Batista switched shows, I tried to watch SD a couple times, but the stuff he was doing with JBL was even more embarrassing than what Cena was doing on Raw. c) The wrestler I'm most interested in right now, (RVD), is on top of the card, so I continue to tune in on the basis of his segments. I like Edge as well, so I'd probably watch another one of his title runs too.

2) No, we're not being "worked" at all. Vince has just been doing everything he could for the last 18 months to get Cena over as a face, and enough of the crowd has accepted it for him to call it a success. Hooray for Vince. A large portion of the crowd still doesn't like him and as a concession, Vince is making a Tuesday show with a better top face, although it does utilize the exact same shitty booking.

3) If Cena really wants to succeed, what he needs is an editor. Someone who's smart about the business who can go over his promos with him before he gives them, and help him make sure he doesn't sound like a dumbass. Like when he's reading about the "T-shirts that smell like fart juice", they could say: "No, don't say that. Everyone over the age of 12's going to think you're retarded. Say 'cum-stained T-shirts' instead, so you're making a clever observation that denigrates your rival rather than stupid potty humor". Well, that's the most important thing anyway. To really get the intelligent fans into the character, they'd have to stop booking him like Superman, stop having him act like such a poser, drop the "You can't see me", drop the salute, drop the five-knuckle shuffle, and most importantly, quit the stupid thing where he changes to a soft voice and gets a smarmy shit-eating grin on his face whenever he's doing an intense promo.

1. I don't turn Cena off because he's involved with stuff on Raw that is too important to dismiss. Crap like Umaga? Yeah I will turn him off from time to time, simply because I know he's just squashing a jobber. Anyway I've watched Raw since the very first show and Prime Time before it and there's certainly been much worse than what we're getting right now. The show might not be at its absolute zenith, but it's not horrible either. Of course, since RVD is my favorite active wrestler I'm glad to see him get the title.

2. I'm not really a Cena disser. Not a huge fan either, in reality I might be one of the few who really doesn't care about him either way. That said, I actually prefer him to the other rookie guys they've brought up and pushed beyond their merits (Lesnar, Orton, etc).

3. As far as Cena working better on a Raw with more superior wrestlers and booking....fuck no. Are you kidding me? This is exactly what got him booed out of buildings, facing guys that are seen by most fans as being superior wrestlers or entertainers to him. On SD who was he really feuding with that was any good or remotely credible? Booker T. has no real credibility left, not enough to turn fans to his side accidentally. Carlito was a green piece of dogshit when he was on SD (though I think he's improved a lot in the past year). Renee Dupree? Kenzo Suzuki? Then of course JBL and the Cabinet? These are all jobbers for the most part that couldn't possibly win a crowd to their side, aside from perhaps JBL who is such a heel the crowd could never cheer him.

Put him on Raw and lo and behold he actually has to wrestle some credible opponents. Jericho was totally jobbed out and buried and he even got the crowd to back him 50/50 vs. Cena. It only got worse when he faced much more credible opponents like Angle and HHH. Cena is recovering his heat, mainly because they went back to the successful SD formula of him facing guys that the crowd thinks are a joke (Spirit Squad for instance) or by facing a guy that is such an unlikable heel that the crowd is forced to side with Cena (JBL on SD, Edge on Raw). There's also RVD but the crowd reactions with him and Cena have been too bizarre to consider a barometer of Cena's heat.

goldengreek, I'm sick of your fucking power trip.
Making good points and intelligent statements, that make your arguements look weak and sophomoric does not constitue a power trip. Maybe look in the dictionary what power trip means.

I like how when he finally decides to use punctuation, it's in the wrong spot.

I'll cut the kid a break on not getting the inside joke about the power trip. But I don't see any "good points" or "intelligent statements" from him in this thread. People are throwing down facts, while he's just responding with his opinion. He hasn't made anyone's argument look weak, because he hasn't brought any factual information himself.

Hey, how about teaching Dirk to make an important clutch freethrow and not choking the series away, then come back and critique my posts.

Let me put guys into five categories:

Category A: The complete package. A rare breed of guys who can work and can put on a great promo. Examples: Eddie Guererro, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Chris Jericho

Category B: Guys who can work but have no charisma and may not be able to talk. Examples: Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin, Stone Cold prior to injury.

Category C: Guys who can compensate for being a bad worker with mic skills. Examples: The Rock, Stone Cold after injury, Scott Hall prior to self-destruction, Mick Foley

Category D: Guys who have little to no charisma and cannot lead a good match. Examples: Randy Orton, Mark Henry, X-Pac, Batista

Category E: Guys who are allowed to be lazy because the promotion is high on them. Examples: The Undertaker, Triple H, Goldberg, Bradshaw, Sting, The Big Show, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash

Now then, here's now likely they are in order of getting a push, from most likely to least likely:

Category E

Category A

Category C

Category D

Category B

So where is John Cena? I'd say he started out as Category C, would be coming into Category D range if it weren't for the fact that management is adding him to Category E.

Mick Foley is NOT a bad worker, he has tremendous psychology and knows how to put together a match better than most. Austin's best promos ever, were in ECW, unless you mean his injury in WCW that led to him being fired. However, I'll ignore the other comments because it's nice to see someone else give credit to Bret for his excellent mic work.
