No. You don't like Kraftwerk? I'm grrooving to Computer World right now so that explains the Bleep Bloop. I listened to this shit when I was a kid.

 

And whether or not you consider XTC synth pop, You can't hate English Tenament. You just can't.

Anyway, I just refer to Kraftwerk post-Ralf und Florian as "electronic" rather than further categorizing it. I can listen to Kraftwerk non-stop for a few days, but I burn out fast. Also, Tour de France Soundtracks is pretty mediocre, and just feels like generic dance music a lot of the time.

 

All I know about electroclash is that the term is copyrighted.

Tour De France Soundtracks and Electro Cafe are the worst Kraftwerk albums. Computer World and The Man Machine are their best albums, especially CW. That album sounds like it could have been made today.

 

I love Electro Funk. You know, Afrika Bambaataa, Pretty Tony, Newcleus, etc. Great stuff there.

 

As far as Depeche Mode goes, Music for the Masses is their best, with Violator coming in at number 2, and Black Celebration coming in at 3. Also, Ultra is quiet underrated, though it does feel a bit too much like trip hop at times. The use of guitars works better in that album than it does for Songs of Faith and Devotion, though SOFAD is a good album.

It's sound is a little tinny and hollow, I almost wish they had made this album with their current production. The melodies still fucking kill, though, and if they made this album today, I wouldn't have the sense of nostalgia.

 

Plus, they wouldn't be making awesome songs about pocket calculators.

Kraftwerk in general seems to be lacking low frequencies. You'd think Messrs. Hutter and Schneider, being such perfectionists, would kinda notice there's very little bass presence.

I'd still probably put Violator first and yeah, I defintatly would put Ultra higher than it's regarded. It was the first album that put me onto Depeche mode. The new album playing the angel is also pretty good. Saw them live about a month ago and it was pretty cool (except for drunk assholes in the crowd).

 

 

Also Peaches first album "Teaches of Peaches" has its moments. Though after the first couple of tracks, even stretching to the end the first album, we get the point that she like fucking. She doesn't need two whole albums to tell us that.

The closest thing to synth pop I listen to is early Ministry. I also like Deadsy and Orgy, but they're rock with a synth pop twist to them.

Deep Cuts by The Knife is the best synth pop album I've heard recently. I'd go as far to say it's the best I've ever heard actually, though it's certainly not my field.

Oh, and third, 99 Baloons is not a synth pop song. A song like "Bizarre Love Triangle" or "Behind the Wheel" or "Down in the Park" is Synth Pop. In other words, get your priorities straight about the genre if you are going to talk about it. Finally, it's spelled Kraftwerk, and alot of the advancements you hear in music today wouldn't be around if they never existed.

First of all, quibbling about genres is just sort of counter-productive. I think there have been threads here which have consisted entirely of people arguing about the sub-categories of metal.

 

Second, yeah you should really know the the name of the songs if you're going to critique them.

It's still better than that horrible version Manson did.

 

There's some great old school synth pop some people don't know about, such as Yellow Magic Orchestra and Section 25. I love Y.M.O., who where basically a Japanese Kraftwerk.

 

Anyways, I think that Kraftwerk should be listed alongside The Beatles, The Velevet Underground, etc, as one of the most important bands in music history.
