Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 14, 2006 The Green Bay Payckers? Something like that. There's some weird vowel shift goin' on. Ask a Wisconsinite (at least one north of Kenosha) to say "put the milk and soda in a bag." It's like watching Fargo. Or to go get a drink out of the bubbler. Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2006 I heard something about a "dunk contest" at the end of it last night that resulted in many "dunks" getting blocked by the bottom of the rim. Did that actually happen?Yep. During the later minutes of the game, they decided to stop and have a "slam dunk" contest. Only one made it... and it was pathetic. Why must David Stern keep this WNBA farce going on forever. Yeah, the slam dunk debacle was a joke. But, I like the WNBA, so piss off for the rest of your comments. And the NBA is no longer subsidizing the WNBA; it hasn't been for three years now.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2006 in all fairness, there SHOULD be a women's pro basketball operation...the women ball players have as much right as the men to earn a living doing what they love...it's just that this one doesn't appear to be the answer. Poor marketing, the fact that women's basketball draws low on all levels anyway, I don't know what it is.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted July 14, 2006 I have no problem with a women's basketball league... I even watch games sometime. But, let's stop pretending that it has many fans. And that it should be on ESPN/ABC. The NBA still has an influence for these things to occur. I think the marketing is fine, though... outside of the many "Amazons dunking worse than 12 year olds" highlights.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2006 yeah, it has no place on ABC, I agree...but as long as ESPN continues to air spelling bees, bowling, "Pro" paintball, poker, deer hunting, archery and Sportscenter, the WNBA can stay there. I don't have a problem with it on NBA TV either.

I think the marketing is fine, though... outside of the many "Amazons dunking worse than 12 year olds" highlights. I never contested that the NBA still has heavy influence; that's obvious. And, since the WNBA still owes them a boatload of money (which they've already started to pay back), they probably should have some influence... all I said was that they're not subsidizing the league anymore; since the 2003 CBA was signed, the WNBA has been paying it's own way. I'm not sure if I get the objection to WNBA games being on ABC; it's not like they've ever pre-empted some major event in another sport to broadcast a WNBA game... nothing else is going on except baseball, and ABC doesn't have a deal to broadcast MLB. You act like they're putting the games on in prime time... they're coming on at 1 in the afternoon on the weekend; what the hell else would they put on, bowling? About the dunking, I personally don't think that the WNBA needs it; besides which, the sort of people that don't like the WNBA aren't going to watch regardless of whether the women can dunk or not. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2006 YES Network is not much better. They have a five and a half hour radio show on television.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 When it comes to women's professional basketball I'm not about to watch that shit, but if it brings in enough money to stay in business then more power to them. I'm not sure if I get the objection to WNBA games being on ABC; it's not like they've ever pre-empted some mojor event in another sport to broadcast a WNBA game... And it's not like the ratings can't be worse than the NHL's, of which I watch.
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2006 I follow women's college hoops, but I can't get into the WNBA at all. The dunking BS is really hurting its appeal. Everytime they show a highlight of a weak dunk or being rejected by the rim, it just makes their skill level look like a joke. Plus, I can't get into hoops during the summer time. I really wish that other league would have won out.
Guest Smues Report post Posted July 21, 2006 didn't know what thread to use but this seemed like the one. This is what's on Fox Sports Net right now. The whole show keeps all that crap on the screen. Gee how much crap can we cram on one screen? Let's find out! It's like they took PTI's rundown bar, Sports Centers score ticker, and CNN's news scroller, put them all on the screen at once, and double the size of each. Guest Report post Posted July 21, 2006 I'm actually ok with that, because I can see what's coming up next so I know whether or not it's worth watching. I like that they separated the news from the scores. Their show is better.
