bob_barron 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 I have no problem with the Braves talking about how their goal is to win the division. It should be. From 12 back and without a soild hold on 2nd? Take care of buisness before taking tough If this was the other way Mets fans themselves would be telling the players to STFU Saying their goal is to win the division and they believe they still can is not talking tough. The Braves run their organization with the belief they will be playing deep into October. Even though I know the chances of us even winning the WC are a bit out there, I have no problem with the team beliving they can still win. Chipper got placed on the DL. This is why I didn't want them to trade Betemit

KingPK 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 read something by Buster Olney that now the Astros are "close" to sending Brad Lidge to the Rangers for a big bat, but off the top of my head, I can't think of a big bat the Rangers would be willing to give up that would fit the needs positionally for the Astros. Buster Olney has zero credibility in my eyes. At the deadline last year, I believe he said that Manny to the Mets was a done deal on ESPN Radio. Oh, and players say things that they don't always believe to be true. Yeah, Olney is the LAST "mainstream" guy you want to listen to when it comes to trade rumors. Again, baseball REALLY needs Peter Gammons back.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Gammons would come up with plenty of rumors that went no where either. I'm fairly certain ESPN encourages/forces their "insiders" to report their rumors as near done deals. Throw enough shit against the wall and eventually one will stick, then they can act like they had a big scoop.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Is Peter Gammons even going to recover enough to be on television again? Serious question.

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Yeah, I don't trust Olney. I think he was one of the ones last year talking about how a Clemens trade was imminent. I do, however, go by the theory that if four or more ESPN guys report something, there has to be at least a nugget of truth in it somewhere. In other news, Morgan Ensberg had a good rehab game at Round Rock tonite, going 4 for 4 with a HR and 2 doubles. If he comes back and is hitting the way he should be, we might not be lost without Tejada. But, then again...a lineup with Ensberg hitting the way he should, Berkman, Tejada, and Aubrey Huff would be nice...

Personally, I think he has more to worry about than getting back to gossip reports on ESPN.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 I think almost 25% of Chicago's wins have come against the Cardinals. The funny thing is that's more or less true. I haven't seen any of the games this weekend, but it looks like there's been a lot of close beanings in the series. Zambrano's had some big command issues today, but he's lucked out. If Phil Nevin catches that foul, it's probably still 5-1. Looked like John Rodriguez Sid Vicioused his ankle on that slide.
Guest Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Nomar is going to the DL, retroactive to July 25th. He covered second and his knee made a funny twist when the Padre slid in at the bag. This time it wasn't a freak injury, it was something that would have happened to anyone. Mark Hendrickson just fell flat on his face coming off the mound. Balk and a run allowed. I'm not going to lie, I laughed.

Guest NYankees Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Fun time at the game today. Guess who got booed? Arod after striking out? It was funny because everybody was cheering for him and after he struck out the chorus turned to boos. Today was a very bad loss for the Blue Jays. BJ gave up a 3 run shot with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth against the A's. Angels are currently up 3-1 over the Red Sox.
