Guest StylesMark Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I don't expect BOTH Sheff and Matsui to come back ok. I'm banking on ONE of them returning to original form.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 If Lidge is dealt, it should be to Baltimore. If one man can fix him, it's Leo Mazzone. Look at what he did for Russ Ortiz that one year... Lidge would be better in the AL. There he wouldn't have to deal with Pujols...or Aaron Miles. No, he'd just have to deal with guys like David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Jason Giambi, A-Rod, Jim Thome, and more. Surely David Ortiz isn't as good a hitter as Aaron Miles. The new "StarkMarket" report says that a *ahem* Berkman/Lidge/Oswalt for Tejada deal was discussed. God, I hope that wasn't even discussed. If Oswalt or Berkman are traded for anybody, I'm gonna give up on baseball and be a Houston Dynamo fan. Are you fucking kidding me??? Who the hell would give up an all star closer, all star player and an all star number 1 starter for Tejada. Thats like trading 3 million dollars and getting 1 million in return. Glenn Davis for Curt Schilling, Pete Harnisch and Steve Finley! They should have done that trade (although I realize it was 1 for 1, not 3 for 1) but that would have been the ultimate payback for Glenn Davis...

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 It's looking more likely that the Astros won't be getting Tejada...and won't doing anything at all. If this article is any indication, I'm thrilled that the Astros are going to stand pat...even if we finish with under 70 wins. "It's over," an Astros official told FOXSports.com Sunday night. "We told them we're not dealing with them anymore." The Astros' frustration apparently stemmed from their belief that they had a Tejada blockbuster in place Friday night, only to have that deal and later proposals quashed by Orioles owner Peter Angelos. But there may have been another issue. The Astros, according to a major-league official with knowledge of the discussions, feared that the Orioles would flip their most prized acquisition for Tejada — Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt— to Houston's cross-state rival, the Texas Rangers. The Orioles, according to the official, intended to trade Oswalt to the Rangers for a package of three players — third baseman Hank Blalock, Triple-A shortstop Joaquin Arias and one of the Rangers' top pitching prospects. They also would have ended up with two other players from the Astros — third baseman Morgan Ensberg and shortstop Adam Everett — effectively making the deal a 5-for-1 for Tejada." htt p://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5831512

Mora could I guess play SS but still??? They should have tried to keep Oswalt...Oswalt/Bedard/Benson would have been a good 1-2-3 in the Os rotation next year. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I read in one report that hypothetically, they were gonna have Ensberg move to first. I guess they could've had Blalock DH or split time with Mora. I dunno.

I dunno. He'd have to be an upgrade over Millar/Conine. so in that scenario they'd have Blalock,Mora,Roberts,Ensberg 3rd to 1rst..Id still rather have Oswalt over Blalock and co. but its not happening so whatever.. Guest StylesMark Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Where's all the Yanks and Sox fans with many false rumors this year. Shit, I'm surprised at the Abreu deal. I doubt any other moves will happen. If Sheffield "quits"...he'll be benched.

Guest Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Well, he's a whiny bitch (Sheff). If Sheff said that he wouldn't move out of right, he would take his ball and go home. That's the way he is.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I was wondering about the implications of that... because if you put Sheff at DH, then you must put Giambi at 1B all the time. That's not good.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Grandpa Sports who is close personal friends with George Steinbrenner, said tonight the Yankees are going to trade for a big name pitcher tomorrow.
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Phillips is much better at playing 1st. But it won't surprise me to see Sheff DH and Juicer play 1st. Trade for a big pitcher?? Maddux? Zito?? I don't care.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Why the hell would Houston trade Oswalt to get Tejada? That's nonsense, I don't believe it was ever close to happening
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Cardinals traded Hector Luna to Cleveland for Ronnie Belliard. Good deal, especially if they can re-sign him. This was mentioned here. I don't really understand this trade by Cleveland, unless it's nothing but a cost-cutting measure. Luna is basically a utility guy, with the same average and OBP as Belliard... but much less power. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Could defense have something to do with it? Cleveland is horrible defensively in the infield.
Guest Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Possibly an attitude thing. A guy like Luna is the type of guy that will do whatever it takes for his team to win, and will put it out there every day, and Belliard has given me the impression that he's lazy.

Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Tony La Russa will probably flog the laziness out of Belliard and make him into an infield Jim Edmonds. You know, except he won't be a latent homosexual.
Guest Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Jayson Stark is reporting the Marlins are interested in Soriano. That's how I know he's full of shit. A team that just dropped a doubleheader to the Phillies is interested in a highly paid player that makes almost as much as their entire roster? A fun thing to do is check out which prospects sat out today. I see that Joel Guzman did, I'm going to look for more. That's a good indication of which teams are looking to make deals, and by the quality of the prospect, what they want to get.

Scott Mathieson was pulled from his AAA start because he could get a call-up to replace Cory Lidle. I think Ryan Madson probably preserved his rotation slot however and Mathieson will pitch Tuesday in Scranton (which I'll attend live). The Phils' rotation currently stands at Myers/Lieber/Hamels/Wolf/Madson. If Lieber gets traded however, Mathieson steps in.
