Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Gasquet has won the 3rd set and looks good in the 4th set. Could be in store for a great finish here.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Gasquet is now serving to send this to a 5th set and the crowd is solidly behind him.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Gasquet finally showed some grit and toughness in that match. Made it a very entertaining 5th. Good stuff from both players.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Outstanding, entertaining 5 sets of tennis there. Some of the shotmaking in the 5th set was just superb. That initial save by Gasquet on the first match point had the announcers jumping out of their seats.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2006 Some of the night matches (Gasquet/Hewitt included) thus far have been awesome. Tomorrow's finale should be an execution.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 5, 2006 I think they only put Roger at night since rain should cancel all matches from 2pm to all night. And they want to give Blake (who's probably not beating Berdych anyway), some advantage.
Narcoleptic Jumper 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 i'd advise you, Leena, to not take up betting on tennis as a hobby.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 6, 2006 I have before and done quite well, actually. Nowhere near iggymcfly money, but sufficient. On the women's side though, where I know a lot more. Too many matches on the men's side are a tossup. I'd never bet on a young kid like Berdych. Continues to disappoint. Oh well. naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 Blake just beat the shit out of Berdych. Sadly for James, I think Federer will beat the shit out of Blake in a similar fashion tomorrow night.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 Nadal just got his ass handed to him as well. AWE-SOME!
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 6, 2006 Blake's a horrible matchup. Roger will crush him. Nadal loss was shocking. About time someone played smart against him, though. The FH is a weakness outside of clay, and non-superball bouncing hardcourts.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2006 Great, so another tournament that is going to feature Roger in the finals against Lleyton or Andy with Fed winning it in straights. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 6, 2006 That's not going to change for a while. I enjoy watching Roger's dominance, though. I think Haas or Kolya will give Roger a decent match, though.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 That's not going to change for a while. I enjoy watching Roger's dominance, though. I think Haas or Kolya will give Roger a decent match, though. Hey, I love Roger too. I'd be happy to see him win tournaments from now until he retires. I just think it's amusing the way so many tournaments end up with Roger against one of the aforementioned pair and Fed whipping their butts.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Roddick squash finals haven't happened for a while, though. I'm ready for another one. It's amazing how he makes Andy's serve look pedestrian. And, of course, the rest of his game is average, so Roger kills him.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Any tournament that Lleyton Hewitt loses is a good tournament to me. I was looking forward to the possibility of him being crushed by Federer yet again, but Federer destroying Roddick will fill the "guys i don't like getting squashed" void well enough. As long as we get Federer/Haas i'll be happy.

The FH is a weakness outside of clay, and non-superball bouncing hardcourts. Agreed on you Nadal point. I really thought he was gonna win (not necessarily easily) against Youzny (sp?) and was quite surprised. Anyway, I thought he wouldn't be able to overcome either Hewitt or Roddick so him not making the semis is not surprising. You also make a good point on Nadal's FH, specially on this kind of surfaces. Regarding Federer, I have him pegged to win the Tourny, but I wouldn't bet on him steamrolling over Blake. It'd be amusing to see, but he could have quite a bit of trouble on his way to a win. And about last night's game between Roddick and Hewitt, I have to say that Roddick surprised me with his easier-than-expected victory. I thought it would be a 4-set Roddick win, but Roddick seems to have upped his game under Jimmy Connors, and looks quite motivated on this particular Tourney. It'll be interesting to see how he fares against Youzny.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 7, 2006 I was surprised how easily Roddick won, considering Lleyton had his way with him in the past, mostly. But, the current Lleyton isn't the same as before. His intensity is gone. I guess marrying that what's her name has calmed him. And ugly Kim + 1000 random Aussie skanks didn't. I'm predicting 7-6 6-2 6-1 for Roger tonight. That's been the norm in their matches. James plays one tough set, then the confidence dives to zero.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 If Youhzny plays at even 50% of the level he did against Nadal he will make Roddick's head explode and win in 4 sets.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 7, 2006 No. Youzhny can't even attempt to play that way on Andy's serve games. As with everyone, he'll have to play extremely consistent tennis on his own serve games, and hope Andy gives him some looks. Youzhny has enough game, but I doubt it happens here. He's sucked all year (with his amount of talent) for a reason. He's not consistent. And I think the moment may be too much for him.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Youzhny's post-match interview made it sound very much like he was just happy to be there, that beating Rafa was his ultimate victory. I think Roddick will have his way with him.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Youzhny and some dude I'd never heard of also knocked out the # 1 team in the World in doubles a couple of hours after he beat Nadal. I don't think he'll fold against RoboRod, especially if he can hang around and take the 1st set. All he has to do is allow Roddick to beat himself, and I think he can do that. Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Watching Roddick-Hewitt last night, and seeing Roddick run up to the net for a serve-and-volley on more than one occasion, I have to wonder why he will only do stuff like that against Lleyton and other players at his level but when he plays Roger it's back to his "serve and pray" style. You'd think he'd have figured out by now that for a chance to beat Fed he's got to play more creatively.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Youzhny play his singles AND doubles matches on the SAME DAY?? That's highly unusual, let alone taxing. If true, certainly a day to remember for him. After "suitable rest" from beating Nadal he went right back out there and KO'd the chest bumpers. If that wasn't bad enough he then had to play his doubles QF today, and lost 6-1 in the 3rd. He does however have tomorrow off if I'm not mistaken.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Yes, he won't play until Saturday. But, doubles is only 3 sets, and much less strenuous than singles, so it wouldn't make much difference. Great performance from my beloved Kolya Davydenko today. He is a rare breed in the current tennis world... fights his ass off all year, and takes advantage of every single speck of his average talent. And has been a Top 5-10 player for 2 years, while being nowhere near that good.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Tommy Haas' match today symbolized his career as he choked like a complete dog. Davydenko was lethargic, down 2 sets to none and on the ropes in the 3rd, but Tommy got lazy and the grinder stuck it to him.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 7, 2006 He wasn't lethargic. He just always looks like that.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 He wasn't lethargic. He just always looks like that. How about lazy? If Davydenko had played with any energy early on he would have straight setted Tommy.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 8, 2006 Lies. How was he lazy. Davydenko just choked the 1st. When his forehand goes, he has no chance of winning. You're off base here. And James just blew the 1st set. I'd advise not watching any further if you're not a big Federer fan.
