snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2006 A couple of pretty good fights this Sat on HBO, from the Garden Theatre. The main event has comebacking Ike 'bazooka' Quartey (37-2-1) vs. comebacking Vernon Forrest (37-2-1). Quartey was back in the ring last year for the first time since 2000...two wins being over solid competition in Carlos Bojorquez and Verno Phillips. Forrest beat two slightly lesser oppnonents last year after being inactive for several different reasons since losing twice to Ricardo Mayorga in '03. Undercard fight is a really good matchup of young prospects. The somewhat erratic Kassim Ouma (25-2-1) fights undefeated/untested Sechew Powell (20-0). My predictions - Quartey by decision, Ouma by tko in the thenth.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2006 Forrest is going to win. He towers over Quartey, and Quartey has dissapointed me since coming back. He looks slower then he has. His jab is not nearly as effective as it use to be. I still think Forrest got robbed in the 2nd Mayorga fight. I'm also going with Powell with the upset. He seems like the hungrier fighter, and I always go with the hungry fighter.
cd213 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2006 I don't know how great the main event is going to be. It's going to be one guy past his prime (Quartey) vs a guy at the end of his days (Forrest). If this is what the Heavyweights have to offer, I'm happy we still have the smaller guys. I'm still going to pick Forrest though.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 4, 2006 Heavyweights? That fight is at 154, or in that neighborhood.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2006 Vernon gets his ass whipped for the majority of the fight, gets deducted a point for a low blow and still wins a unanimous decision. I'm glad I stopped watching boxing. That "sport" is more rigged than wrestling.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 Not only that but Forrest was running away from Quartey majority of the fight. Quartey was the aggressor he had landed more power punches and jabs something like 54% compared to 26% for Forrest. The ringside announcer's unofficial scorecard had Quartey winning by 5 rounds and after hearing the offical ruling the crowd started to chant "BULLSHIT!". snuffbox 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2006 I called Ouma, but didnt get the late ko right. Quartey clearly beat Forrest...fuck the judges...after the fight, Forrest (from Atlanta) was speaking in gibberish and Quartey (Ghana) spoke fluent English. Shit's lame.
