naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 ND is # 2, USC # 3 and Auburn # 4. The Smallhorns should drop to 8th. They'll end up with at least 3 losses, a minor bowl victory and a rank in the upper teens by the end of the year.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 After tonight the OU/Texas game went from a sure fire Texas blowout to a close game. It looks like if OU can get in McCoy's face and rattle him then they'll have success. And if McCoy continues to struggle Mack will turn into Mack again big time and start playing dueling QBs and we know how well that works out for him. I say all that but at this moment I think Texas will probably still win the game because their defense will probably mess Thompson up more than the OU defense can mess McCoy up. So at this point(unless OU just looks awesome against Oregon which i don't think they will...i think they probably lose that one too) I think Texas will win but man the RRS just got more exciting and closer in my book. I don't know where he's getting this third loss at though.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted September 10, 2006 If OU can start to tackle and play decent defense, I'd put them as the best in the Big 12 now. After Oregon and Tejas, they play the dregs of the Big 12. And Oregon isn't looking so hot vs. Fresno right now.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Tennessee fans are far too confident. The group gathered at the sports bar was looking only at the -20 line and kept saying "they run the OPTION, man. Come on, what's their problem?" and other crap like that. I didn't expect it to be that close, but still expected a game from Air Force. This week's practice had better include massive servings of humble pie. There's no way we beat Florida with that kind of attitude and effort.

After Oregon and Tejas, they play the dregs of the Big 12. And Oregon isn't looking so hot vs. Fresno right now. They figured out how to tackle in the second half against Washington so I guess we'll see. And once they removed DJ Wolfe at corner in favor of Lendy Holmes that hole shored up nicely. Then again Oregon is MUCH better than Washington and UAB and they run a much better executed offense. Plus I don't care how bad they look against Fresno State because they'll be at home which will be tough. Who is OU playing in the Big 12? The south? Ok well Baylor sucks. Tech looks like they suck. OSU sucks. A&M? Well they're always hard at Kyle Field. The North? Iowa State? Not looking so hot. Mizzou? Probably will be tough. Colorado? 0-2 baby! Hell if they make it to the title game they'll probably play Nebraska which will be tough b/c Nebraska might be a one loss team(of course losing to USC). Imagine that. OU vs. Nebraska with something on the line and both teams ranked? Every fan in Norman and Lincoln will cream.

Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Did anyone else see Auburn v Mississippi State? MSU might have a pretty good defense, as Kenny Irons didn't run for a hojillion yards against them. However, the combination of Irons and Brad Lester, with Courtney Taylor catching just about anything Cox threw near him worked pretty well. Also, AU's defense was stout, what with getting the shut out and everything. I really like Auburn's chances this year, as they don't have many tough road games, though their home games will be hard enough. I do feel sorry for Crooms, though, as he's the coach of a fairly bad team in one of the toughest conferences.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Oh and CanadianChris since it appears you watched the OU game I wanted to ask you what your impressions of them were once they got going. You were saying it was a decent enough win and I thought they dominated the second half and looked impressive but I was wondering what an objective observer thought. I was switching back and forth between that and the BC/Clemson game, but what I saw looked pretty good. They'll need to play like that for four quarters against their better opponents, obviously. As long as Thompson keeps getting better (and I think he probably will) so the defense has to stop constantly putting 8 men in the box to stop Peterson, they look to be on course for a good season. By the time the Red River Shootout rolls around, Thompson might be a better QB than McCoy.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Texas Tech's going to OT against UTEP. UTEP put together a nice drive late. Texas Tech missed a 51-yarder that would've won it.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 And UTEP's QB got intercepted on the first possession. Texas Tech only needs a FG to win. EDIT: Tech wins with a 49-yarder, despite their best efforts to take themselves out of FG range.

Baylor looks decent so far, I wouldn't consider them a walk for OU, and Tech looks no worse than Oklahoma does this year. And as you said Oregon, A&M, and Mizzou will be tough, I'm calling OU loses to at least two of those five teams, along with Texas. Nebraska is in a similar situation,(USC, Texas, Mizzou, A&M) but the weak North is to their advantage.
teke184 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Got back from LSU-Arizona a while ago... It seemed like Mike Stoops was going out of his way to piss LSU's fans off before the game. 1. Stoops did an interview in the last few days basically talking down Death Valley and its effects on the game. While he can believe that however much he wants, making public comments about that pisses off the drunken fans even more and causes them to get even louder... which made the Wildcats get several Delay Of Game penalties and burn at least one timeout. 2. Before the Wildcats went back to the locker room during the pre-game warmups, they had a team meeting on the 50 yard line and jumped up and down on the Eye Of The Tiger at midfield. That one pissed off a LOT of fans. (Auburn did the same thing after the coin toss in late 2001 and got an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty for it, setting the tone for a nasty game that determined the SEC West championship.) As far as the game went- QBs- Russell is still #1 and did very well for the most part. He threw a lot of good passes and was willing to scramble if there was no receiver. However, he also threw at least one INT by throwing to Dwayne Bowe in coverage and almost threw several more by throwing to Bowe in triple-coverage. RB- Alley Broussard is unofficially #1, but Jacob Hester was the star of this one. With the coaches unwilling to risk Broussard before the Auburn game and Justin Vincent being ineffective, Hester was moved from fullback to tailback and did VERY well. Hester finished the day with 43 yards on the ground and a TD, another 53 through the air and a TD there, and was robbed of an additional receiving TD on the first drive. (He caught a pass on the edge of the endzone and had one foot in, but was called out of bounds by the referees.) WR- The yardage and TDs were spread around here. Dwayne Bowe was the leader, as usual, with 65 yards and a TD, but Jacob Hester, Early Doucet, Buster Davis, and others picked up a lot of yards as well. O-Line: Very good for the most part. The only trouble spot I saw was a blatant false start by G Will Arnold, but crap happens. D-Line: Excellent. There were some VERY nasty hits out there and multiple sacks. I may use my TiVo footage of the game to put together a highlight reel of hits, including one where the 'Zona RB took a full flip in the air before landing on the ground. Hard. LBs: Ali Highsmith was still great. Darry Beckwith and the other LB are good, but it remains to see how they'll deal with a great RB like Kenny Irons. DBs: Fan. Fucking. Tastic. LaRon Landry and Jonathan Zenon are living up to their billing, as Zenon returned an INT 40 yards for a TD while Landry picked off another. Special Teams: Much better this week, although a bit gunshy on Punt Return. They were pushed inside the 15 several times because they seemed nervous about fumbling that deep in their territory. Overall defense: Excellent. If not for the fact that Miles had the 2nd and 3rd string in for the 4th quarter, this would have been a shutout and Arizona would have finished with negative rushing yards thanks to all the sacks. It remains to be seen how they'll do against Auburn, but they sure should have some confidence after back-to-back 45-3 wins.

Not after tonight and not after the way OU played in the second half. And Texas Tech has no chance in hell of winning in Norman. They always play bad and they're nowhere near as good as they have been the past few years. Plus OU has always known how to defend that offense and Tech still isn't great on defense. OU will beat Tech. Guaranteed. If OU loses in conference it'll be to Texas or in the conference title game. Or hell maybe in Stillwater. No matter how bad OSU is they always play OU tough in Stillwater.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 Oh and Teke I think it went something like this. You may have heard it on the radio and know more but basically Les Miles made some comments after winning Bedlam 2 straight years that pissed off the OU coaching staff. Mike Stoops being the meathead that he is took huge offense. So after OU soundly trounced Miles and OSU by 40 something points the next season Stoops raised his arms to his sides and said "you want some more of this?" to Miles. Now however Stoops has the crappy team and Miles has the good team and revenge was taken. Meanwhile Bob Stoops couldn't be reached for comment because he doesn't give a damn. I can't wait for Nebraska/USC. I'm pretty sure Nebraska will lose by 20 some odd points but it'll be entertaining for a half I think. What was up with what the USC receivers said about Booty? ESPN made it sound like they were shit talking Leinart in the process.

Broward83 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 So yeah, Texas fucked up and I'd expect nothing less than a Cal-like drop in the rankings after their play tonight. Dama, while you're right to think the RRS will be closer... I just think that Texas come Oct. 7th will be a --bit-- more sound on offense. As far as OU possibly going undefeated in the Mediocre 12.. well, if they lose to UT.. I think they could lose to AnM at Kyle Field. Now I fucking hate AnM with a passion.. but the one thing any Texan cares about is OU getting fucked up and if Fran can get his boys up for the game, then I think OU might walk out a bit sore. (Of course, if AP can keep carrying the rock 20-30 times and Thompson can refine his passing a bit then OU could be a decent force). Hey Teke, what's the news with Ryan Perilloux? I haven't heard much about him after he snuffed Texas and caved into peer pressure to sign with LSU. Is he even inline for a starting job or have they tried to move him to a new position? Finally, I'm a fan of ND... but c'mon, did Charlie really need to go for it on all those 4th downs today?
