1st day of College...

Recommended Posts

Well I just started my 1st day of school today at college, I'm studing journalism. It was pretty weird going into it and I felt nervous, but I saw alot of my friends from High School there, and alot of fine looking woman. Should be fun considering me and my girlfriend are on a break right now, so it will be nice to test out the water. It sucks that I have to take the bus to school because I don't want to pay for a parking pass.

Anyone want to give me advice?

Don't understand. How is it weird to take the city bus to school? I'm not taking a cheese wagon. I have to take the bus to the C-Train station and take the C-Train for like 2 stops.

Alot of people I knew from High School do go to that College, what's the problem with that?

Get in good with the professors...especially the ones in your major. And get one of those backpacks that have the wheels. Those are sweet. I wanna get me one of them.

Those are goofy, I'll stick with my normal backpack.

By the time you get to be a junior and have to walk four miles and up six flights of stairs between every class, you won't think they're so goofy. And if you just use a regular backpack, wear it on one shoulder. I hear only nerds wear them on both shoulders.

I don't really wear my backpack, I just carry it in my hand, but when I do, I wear it on one shoulder.

Don't goof off too much, even though it's college and you can really be a slacker, even more than you might have been in college. I got in trouble my first year academically cause I'd just ditch class to hang out with friends.

Anyways, today I was coming home from a class, and these guys are outside by a table, offering people free bread and cream corn. I don't like cream corn, but I like bread, so I figured "what the hell". It turns out that it was free if you promise to visit Tom Green's website. So I didn't get any bread.

Plus, I got cream corn on my hands, so fuck Tom Green.

I was just busting balls, EHME. No serious disrespect was meant.

The bus thing sounded weird because in Boston the most prevalent form of public transportation is the subway ... so it sounded kind of weird to take the bus to school. Like more of a high school thing than a college thing. (technically a middle-school thing, but I digress)

And the high school thing sounded weird because it's the last thing that I'd want to have happen when I started college. Going to college was - for me - the chance to get the fuck away from everyone I went to HS with. Literally 30% of my graduating class went to one of the UMASS schools ... so guess where I didn't even apply? I purposely only applied to schools that were far, far away just to be able to avoid the "hey, there's someone I know from high school!" thing.

Again, though, I just trying to playfully bust your rocks a little bit.

Backpacks? The real cool collegites carry their books under their left or right arm. But, I schedule my classes so that I never have to carry more than two books at a time. My schedule rocks everyone else's nuts off.

Tues/Thurs. 1 class from 10:50-12:05 Constitutional Law

Tues night 1 class from 6-9 The Law of Mass Communications

Wed. night 1 class from 6-9 The Judicial Process

Then 3 credit hours for working on the school paper (ie doing nothing, the same as last semester)

4 day weekends every week, no job and unlimited possibilities.

I have one year of college before law school, and I'm planning on enjoying it.

It was my 1st day of college for myself a few days ago as well. It seems like high school, with a lot more serious people, and more walking around. I know it's early as hell, but the work doesn't look bad at all. Not the way my high school teachers were going on about 10 page papers.

I also have to take a bus, and a train.

About the schedule stuff, I tried scheduling for a four day weekend, but ended up with one class on Mondays. Good looking schedule.

We don't have subways in Calgary, we have C-Train, and near my house I have to take the bus for almost half hour to catch my C-Train to get to school. And I was friends with almost everyone from High School so I have no problem with running into peeps from High School.

Guest Princess Leena

Yeah, everyone just loves you.

I had a job in college, unlike you hippies. So, I could drive everywhere.

I have 102 credit hours, which means I get to schedule right away, giving me the luxury of not schooling it up on mon. and friday. But, only one class on Monday, and none of friday is very good for a first semester. If the Monday class is one you can skip liberally, you'll be rocking your nuts off as well.

And, college is very easy, it really is. The key is knowing what classes you need to show up for, and what classes you can skip. I have a 3.9 GPA, and I don't really study too much, except for the LSAT. I've found college to be much easier than high school.

So, since we've established how we have different forms of public transportation in our respective cities, I'm presuming why it sounded strange to me makes more sense. It wasn't a diss or anything, just a joke. And I had no problem with running into "peeps" from high school ... it's just that I went to school with those kids from anywhere from 4-12 years, depending on if I went to Elementary & Middle schools with them before HS. Enough was enough, I thought it'd be beneficial to meet people from other parts of the country.

I worked, too, Leena ... and had a car ... and was a hippie. I was the best of all worlds.

I thought Tom Green's 15 minutes ended a few years ago.

So did I.
