It'd be weird to live in a state like South Dakota or Montana, where the main minority is actually Native Americans. For me, it's like I hear about their existence all the time, but I've never actually seen one in its natural habitat.

you're way wrong, my friend...my work place alone has over 200 people, 75% are Hispanic...I don't know the particulars on it, but we have a very large hispanic population here.
