Clemson just went up 21-9 on FSU with a very impressive white boy scramble. FSU continues to look very mediocre.

 

Okay, when the hell did announcers start referring to "the boo-birds" in every game? I swear I haven't heard it before this season, but now I can't get through 20 minutes of games without someone busting it out.

Going unseen today with all the really really big games is the fact that both Wake Forest and Rutgers are 3-0. Sure, they haven't played much of anybody, but most of the time that doesn't even matter.

 

And jesus christ. Wake is one of the better looking ACC teams at this point--NC State is now down 37-10 to Southern Miss, and UNC is down to freaking Furman in the 4th quarter.

It looks like the same problems that plagued that Gators all last year on the road are back again. No run game, horrible play calling at times, missed tackles, can't protect Leak, the list goes on. I don't get what changed between the first and second quarter.

The rout is starting for USC. Nebraska misses a potential pick for a score, fumble a little while later, and USC turns that into 7 points.

Callahan is proving why he's one of the worst coaches ever. What's with this run game that's not working and just giving Nebraska constant 3 and outs? And what was with running the clock out at the end of the half? He's a moron.

Idaho barely beat Idaho State 27-24.

Louisiana Tech beat Nicholls State 31-21.

Southern Illinois won over Indiana 35-28.

North Carolina is getting a run for their money from Furman 38-35 with 3:08 left.

 

That's 5 games (1-4 record* pending Furman game) decided by 10 points or less featuring I-AA teams against, in some cases, very solid I-A teams. It won't surprise me at all if we see more and more I-AA teams "upsetting" I-A teams in the next couple years.

AFAIK, he's one of the few pro FOOTBALL coaches in history to be in serious danger of physical harm from their players.

Montana's only hesitation to going I-A would probably be that their traditional battle with Montana State would be a perpetual I-A vs. I-AA game on their schedule.

 

 

 

If they go to the WAC, maybe Louisiana Tech will decide the drives aren't worth it and move to the Sun Belt, which contains ULL, ULM, Arkansas State, North Texas, and many other schools close to them.

 

(Tech pushed hard to get into Conference USA for the 12th spot 2-3 years ago, which went to UTEP instead. The big reason behind that was that Rice, Tulsa, and SMU, the three closest schools to them in the WAC, all jumped to C-USA and left their closest WAC opponent at least 1,000 miles away from them.)

 

 

OTOH, that means no away games at Hawaii, which are a perk to some athletes in various sports. (I have a family friend who plays either volleyball or softball for Tech and they mentioned that particular trip.)

I must say I've been very disappointed in A&M's defense thus far. Sure they've played directional schools so far this season but they've looked decent. Army's converting 3rd downs at an alarming rate and the offense, apart from McGhee's option running and Javorskie "Whopper with Cheese please" Lane, hasn't looked much better. Ugly game so far. They'd better come out ready to play in the 2nd half.

Man, probably the most exciting Florida win in awhile. Not the greatest of victories, but I'll take a win at Tennessee any day of the week. I love the composure of Leak in these tough situations.

Bill Callahan had to have the worst gameplan ever.

I can see him heading out to get on the team bus and it leaving him behind.

Nebraska's midget corners had no shot against Dwayne "the giant" Jarrett.

They looked like children. At one point I caught Jarrett passing out candy to them.

 

Oh well it was a good day of games even if OU was horribly screwed. I'm about to write in my blog though about how they have nobody to blame but themselves because despite the penalties they could've still stopped Oregon.

 

OH and in the past I didn't think it was warranted for you guys to say the Big XII was overrated and they usually proved it by performing well in bowls. This year I'm driving that bandwagon because the Big XII is racing the ACC for worst conference.
