This Week in College Football 9/14 - 9/16

Yes if that happens they will be a top 10 team.

But, if you actually think that will happen, you live in a fantasy world.

Coming from a Nebraska fan I won't take that seriously.

Nobody in the Big XII outside of Texas and Mizzou can beat OU.

They get Tech, Colorado, and ISU all in Norman. Bob Stoops has only lost two games in Norman. They'll win those games.

They get A&M at Kyle Field which is a tough place to play but after this week at Autzen somehow I don't think they'll be intimidated.

They go to Baylor.....*makes jacking off motion*

They go to Mizzou which will be tough but they can get the job done.

And then the toughest test will be Texas in the Cotton Bowl but if they play anywhere close to the way they played today on offense and then if they play on defense like they did in the second half against Washington they'll finish Texas off.

And then maybe Nebraska in the Big XII title game but they won't be too tough especially after we beat basically the same team in Lincoln last year with a worse OU team.

So no it's not a fantasy world because every game they have on their schedule is winnable. Even Rece Davis said if OU beat Oregon they would've probably run the table and I don't think he lives in a fantasy world.

The Big XII title is easily winnable and the fact that they have big #28 in the backfield just increases their chances of winning. Plus Rufus Alexander on defense does a lot for them.

As for Nebraska? They're not going anywhere this season nor will they win the Big XII. If they even get to the Big XII title game they'll get handled by OU or Texas especially with Callahan calling plays.

Go on about fantasy worlds and whatever, especially after your coach embarassed himself with the worst offensive gameplan in the history of Nebraska football, because OU right now looks better than everyone else in the Big XII outside of Texas.

I'd like to put the UT-UF rivalry aside for a minute and give props to Justin Harrell for playing tonight. It was truly amazing to even see him play considering how serious his injury was. Hats off to him.

What was incredible was that the line could do so much more while he was in there, hindered or not.

For not taking that seriously you sure rattled off a long post in OU's defense.

OU will beat, CU, ISU, A&M, and Tech.

OU will either lose to Baylor or barely beat them.

OU will lose to Missouri(VERY possible)

OU will lose to Texas(sure thing)

Don't get me wrong, OU is better than Nebraska. I wouldn't have said that last week, but playing better than Oregon proved a little something. They deserve to be a #12-18 team. Nebraska does not. Nebraska will lose AT LEAST 2 more games this year before the big 12 title game, IF they even win the North(I don't think they will).

I care more about Buffalo than Nebraska as far as college football goes, by the way.

Auburn doesn't get full credit because they won at home on a bad call (the 3rd down play that should have been PI). If that game's in Baton Rouge or if it's officiated properly, LSU wins. I mean, LSU still had they're chances, and they didn't make enough plays which is why I have to give Auburn the nod over them, but I still can't give Auburn full credit for the victory.

Florida meanwhile, got the job done on the road in a hostile environment without any real bad calls, so I'm leaving them ahead of Auburn. Note the leaving part as I had them ahead of Auburn going into the week, and so no reason to change. If Auburn had been there, there's a good chance they would have stayed ahead as well. Also, the Gators showed some semblance of an offense, and no matter how good LSU's defense is, Auburn's O was pretty bad to start the game.

West Virginia drops because so many teams played well around them. I think a 31-7 victory over Miami proves that the Cardinals are legit now, and should give them a boost over a WVU team who's done nothing this year. Also, most of those early scores against Maryland were due to Maryland mistakes, and even though it was pretty much decided, I didn't like some of the weaknesses I saw in WVU's defense late. After such a dominating performance on both sides of the ball by Louisville, I can't justify keeping the Cardinals behind a team who's lacking on one side of the ball.

Boise State drops because only winning by 7 against Wyoming (who's not that good, they'll probably be 7-4 in the Mtn. West, and would likely be 4-7 in a major conference) makes me think they can't play that well off of the blue turf. I really expected them to win that by 3 TDs or more, and the fact that Wyoming had a chance to win late is making me second-guess them somewhat. If you're going to rank a mid-major high, you have to be willing to drop them without a loss since they won't be playing the big-time competition week in and week out.

It's nowhere close to being a sure thing that OU loses to Texas.

And there's no way they play close with Baylor. Waco isn't exactly the most hostile environment.

People were creating groups on my facebook and writing notes about how OU got screwed, the refs got paid off, blah blah blah. Yeah it was a bad call but like I said earlier....OU still had to stop them not leave a guy wide open.

So I posted this note for them all to read:

Look OU needs to blame themselves as well. Yeah they got screwed by the officials but it's not like Oregon was handed the touchdowns. OU still had to stop Oregon and that's something they didn't do! They could've easily stopped Oregon and the game would've been over. Instead they let Oregon drive.

And maybe if they'd scored a touchdown instead of kicking 4 field goals things would've been a bit different.

So they can blame the officials but OU is at fault too.

And that's exactly what I'm going to say tomorrow when I get to school if anyone complains to me. Maybe if OU hadn't played vanilla defense on that second to last drive and let Dixon just walk it in there wouldn't have even BEEN an onside kick to complain about.

I doubt U of L will move up much in the actual AP or coaches polls. Here is the way it'll be depicted: "Oh yeah, Louisville beat Miami but it's obvious that Miami really sucks this year. Besides, without Brohm they aren't any good."

I wouldn't put U of L ahead of WVU, not yet anyway. That's what Nov. 2 is all about. If U of L can beat their asses then it's a different story. But that is a long way away....at this point I'm just worried about Kansas St. next week. That one might be more interesting than it needs to be.

Irish Eyes aren't smiling anymore.

After allowing the most points by an opponent in South Bend in 46 years, Notre Dame dropped 10 spots to No. 12 in the latest Associated Press college football poll.

The Fighting Irish were replaced at No. 2 by Auburn, which defeated LSU, 7-3 in a defensive SEC slugfest.

Southern Cal remained No. 2 in the USA Today coaches' poll.

The rest of the AP top 10 is Southern Cal, West Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Louisville, Georgia and LSU.

The Miami Hurricanes, which lost 31-7 at Louisville on Saturday, dropped out of the top 25. Texas Tech also dropped out the rankings.

Clemson (No. 19) and Boise State (No. 25) were newly ranked this week.

Couldn't find the actual list, will post it when I find it.

Yes OU's defense should have stopped them. However, OU's defense shouldn't have had to. If the right, and obvious as hell call was made correct on that onside kick then the defense wouldn't have had to stop them. The offense would have taken the field and ran the ball till the clock ran out. A call like that that can make the difference in the game needs to be the correct call, and those officials should never ref a D1 game again.

On top of that...I've always thought the onside kick was the lamest, cheapest fucking way to go. At least OU only dropped to 17 on the poll.

They should've stopped them on the drive before that. Instead they played with the mindset of "We'll let them score and then recover the onside kick."

There should've never been an onside kick.

OU dropped!?!?! They should've gone up after that. It just proves that most of the voters(in the AP and Coaches) don't watch the games and just go off scores.

Why would a team go up after a loss?

Because it's happened in the past when it's such a close game on the road like that and there are shennanigans like that at the end.

Went to the Oregon/Oklahoma game yesterday and came away with a few observations...

1) Oklahoma fans travel well. They filled their assigned section and then some, there was even a Boomer Sooner chant going on at a couple points during the game.

2) Adrian Peterson is the most boring "Best College Running Back" in recent memory. Maybe its because we've been spoiled with Reggie Bush, and the Auburn boys, etc, but that was a pretty underwhelming 200 yards. I walked away from the game thinking "Wow, Oregon did a pretty good job containing Peterson" only to find out later he had over 200 yards rushing. I know he means a lot to his team, Oklahoma wouldn't be half the team they are without him, and hes probably the Heisman winner, but it seems like he could lose to a more exciting player with slightly worse stats.

3) Oklahoma fans are assholes. This isn't a hard and fast rule at all, really just a gutcheck anecdotal observation. My friends and I were standing up and yelling the whole game and the man behind us had us removed. To be completely fair, we were in the wrong section, but we were right next to the student section (which was full.) You don't go to a fucking football game to have a hotdog and enjoy the weather. There were quite a few other lames, but honestly, the Oklahoma fans were by and large a great group of people and a lot of fun, I just wanted an excuse to kvetch.

4) Autzen is loud.

5) Oregon Uniforms are ill. I honestly don't understand where all the uniform hate is coming from. I've seen them on TV, and now I've seen them in person and I only like them more now. They're doing something original and the players love them

Also, whoever said Dixon didn't have anything in common with Vince Young is pretty uninformed. They're both extremely fast quarterbacks with good accuracy who played a controlled role during their Sophomore years. Remember, Dennis Dixon is only a Junior, so far the only game hes lost was the bowl game to Oklahoma. I'm not saying this guy is the second coming of VY, but its stupid to think the comparisons are only because they're both black QBs.

As to the whole officiating thing, I'm glad to see Dama taking such an honest approach. Oklahoma had a 13 point lead going into the final 6 minutes or so, they had plenty of opportunities to step up and take the game away, but they didn't. That is not the mark of a good team. Coffee is for closers, and Oklahoma looks like a bunch of tea drinking mothafuckas to me.

Dama, heres one thing I do disagree with, of course Oregon fans are gonna be proud. That was a huge comeback in a great game.

I never got the beef with the Oregon uniforms, myself. The one colored sleeve crap that was being worn by Florida and Virginia Tech last year was far worse.

It's happened before. I recall a couple times with beloved Notre Dame.

Well geez, whattashock.

Oregon Uniforms are ill.

Oregon uniforms make me ill. I can't describe how awful they are, but I can feel it.

There are other offending uniforms too, primarily because the schools want to get away from the classic block font and expirement with other funky (awful) alphanumeric fonts, but the Oregon is just bad from head to toe.

Oh, those were bad too.

3) Oklahoma fans are assholes.

Heh.

It's true. They did a piece on the news where they had a lady go to an OU basketball game with an OSU jersey on and she said she'd never been cussed at more and insulted than any time in her life. And then she went to an OSU basketball game with an OU jersey on and everyone was really nice to her.

I mean I'm about as sore of a loser as there's ever been but even I have to admit it's OU's fault.

Yeah OU should still blame themselves.

It's like Porter said to me online when I told him OU should've scored 4 TDs instead of kick 4 FGS......and he said "28>12". It's true. They should've done something.

And they shouldn't have stood around with their mouths hanging open after the bad calls. They should've played some defense. And then they still had a shot to win with the field goal and they went and got it blocked. So while yes it was a shitty way to lose and yes it was as shitty call and should've never come down to that...you have to play after the shitty call! The game didn't end on that call.

Fowler was right though. If you're going to have replay......why not get it right? They very obviously got both calls wrong.

And about AD being boring. He's flashy when he's not facing 8 guys. That's when he bowls people over and breaks off 50 yard runs. Of course facing 8 guys in the box against OSU last year he ripped off 2 70+ yard TD runs with nobody laying a hand on him. `

Hey they move Cal up after the loss to USC, granted there were no shennanigans there. And yes it has happened. And the way OU's defense played on the last two drives it might've been figure skating.

Yeah I recall U of L moving up after the Miami game 2 years ago. Sometimes if you're impressive enough in a loss you can move up. That's usually a team that is lower in the polls though that takes a highly ranked team to the limit. OU was ranked slightly higher than Oregon (though Oregon was favored), so if they lose they likely have to drop a little bit, while Oregon moves up.

I wonder if it'd been a better game if Nebraska had actually showed up with something resembling a gameplan.

Then again USC was running a very vanilla offense.

So I'm sure if Nebraska had actually played a real football game then the playbook would open and USC would eat them alive.

Even today I'm totally confused by Callahan's gameplan.

I'm telling you. They don't watch the games yet they claim they're the responsible ones that should be allowed to vote. The AP voters are just as bad as the Coaches.
