Guest Smues Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Walmart Wii bundle pre-orders went up online sometime this morning, but by the time I got up it was listed as out of stock already. Kind of makes me mad because I signed up for some stupid Walmart newsletter only because it said "join our lame newsletter to find out when Wii preorders go on sale!" and yet they never told me, I only found out from CAG. On the other hand I don't know if I would have gotten their bundle anyway, as it's a wii, an extra wii mote and nunchuk controller, a 2000 point card, and 4 games for $533. Edit: Apparantly people don't know if it actually went on sale yet and is sold out, or if it hasn't actually gone on sale. Hmm. I was fine buying a bundle, but I was really hoping to only have to get 2 or so games.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 If Nintendo can keep up with putting out a whole bunch of retro games a month, they will be better than Xbox Live Arcade. I'd say they're only a Dracula X Rondo of Blood away from doing that. I doubt the currently piddly amount of internal storage is going to come close to cutting it, though. EricMM 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Yeah but you download these games when you play them, right? It just registers it as bought, they must be tiny games...

Wow, that's not even a bargain at all.... Wii = $250 Wiimote = $40 Nunchuk = $20 2000 point card = $20 4 games = $200 Coming to a grand total of $530. So they're charging more?? Guest Smues Report post Posted November 1, 2006 I think they have the 2000 point card listed for like 23 or 24$, I'm sure the price is exact to the penny of if you bought everything individually from walmart.

Guest Smues Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Don't buy from Wal-Mart. Bundle or not I'm getting my Wii from Walmart, I have a giftcard I'm going to use. edit: which suddenly makes me wonder if I even could pre-order that bundle with the giftcard because it's a $500 dollar card and is just short of fully covering it. Hmm.

Guest Smues Report post Posted November 1, 2006 It was given to me with the orders of use it to get an xbox 360 or something else fun. And I just decided it'd be my Wii card.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Don't buy from Wal-Mart. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Okay, Wiis shouldn't be that hard to fine, really, but I could see folks doing this for PS3. I'm fairly sure Anya plunked down over $1000 for the honor to be reamed by Wal-Mart with their 360 bundle. Wal-Mart was literally the only place I could get Scurge: Hive, though.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 None the less, each time you but such a massive thing from a bigbox store instead of your neighborhood games store, you contribute to the elimination of such places.

Yes, you can preorder with a gift card, and use a credit/debit/whatever card for the rest of it, if the gift card doesn't cover all of it.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 instead of your neighborhood games store Have no such animal, and never really did (EB doesn't count). Although when I'm out of town I patronize such places, such as The Exchange and a local chain that carries old and new stuff called Cash-In Culture. When I couldn't get Scurge, I thought "I should have preordered." However, there was a lady also trying to get the game I met the other day who reserved at EB like 2 years ago for the game and they didn't get any in. EricMM 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 EB is worlds closer than fucking Wal-Mart.
dubq 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 I'm with Eric on that one. I have 2 EB's within walking distance, plus 4 other "one-shot" game shops, that I know of, that are also within walking distance. The nearest Wal-Mart is out in the boons. I think there's a bit of a backlash to putting Wal-Mart's in the city centre as it creates a whole "trashy feel" to the surrounding area. Also, a few tidbits regarding some games from Futureshop: http://www.futureshop.ca/marketing/wii/05....=&langid=EN
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Future Shop is pricey to get console's and games. It's the only place I've ever seen that games were over $70 Canadian before tax.
dubq 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Yeah. Actually.. now that they've started selling games - I've found HMV (I think the Yonge/Dundas one is the only one to sell games) really good with their prices. Easily competition for EB's prices.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 EB is worlds closer than fucking Wal-Mart. EB/Gamestop is still evil. http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...t&p=2353158 At my local EB, I was there one time when some people traded in what literally must have been a couple hundred DVDs. Yeah, I'm so sure they owned them... Plus the entire chain has jacked prices on some titles in high demand that have already gone GH. $19.99 for a used Silent Hill 2 and Final Fantasy X? Zone of the Enders 2 has gone up to 40 bucks. Super Smash Bros Melee (which has gone Player's Choice, BTW) is above MSRP at $26.99, bumped up from the $24.99 they had before. NES Classics Super Mario Bros is $19.99, the same price for a cartridge by itself as it was brand new. Silent Hill 1 is/was $17.99 if you're lucky enough to find it. Ikaruga went up to $40. They bought a hella lot of Gamequest Direct games (reprints of rare titles) and put them into stores for inflated prices. I could go on and on. The prices on their websites for used titles are actually higher in many cases than the in-store prices, like 5-10 bucks higher. That's not even counting the shipping costs. Did I mention indoctrinating employees to pester customers to preorder? Or how they try to hock those PIECE OF SHIT Madcatz/Gamestop controllers because they actually get a higher profit margin off them, even if they'll crap out in 1/5 the time? "Hey, buy this--it's cheaper!"
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Oh, and yet another example of how Nintendo likes Japan more: Added Value for Virtual Console in Japan Nintendo unveils extra classic titles for the Far East. by Jonathan Lumb, 11/01/2006 39 of 39 users recommend this story. We've already given you the Virtual Console Lineup, but what you might not know is that Japan is getting a slightly better start in terms of choice. 16-bit fans, get your tissues at the ready -- there's going to be some tears shed here. First of all, the Sega Genesis titles will be retailing for 200 Wii Points less, at the much more tempting price of 600 Wii Points. On top of that, thanks to exchange rates, the Wii Points in Japan are already a little cheaper than the US - 100 Wii Points costs just 85 cents, making the Genesis titles even more of a steal at a little over $5. What's this price difference for? Your guess is as good as ours. More important though, are the extra games that will be released in Japan before the year is out. SNES is top of the pack here with a whopping eleven games due out in Japan, compared to the measly two games that the US will be getting. Here's a full rundown of the titles scheduled only for Japan this year. NES Games (500 Wii Points) Legend of Kage: Ninja rescues Princess in this platform game from Taito. Gradius: Konami's classic space shooter. Go-moku Narabe: also known as Five-in-a-Row. Xevious: Seminal vertical shooter from Namco. Ninja Jajamaru-kun: Another popular Ninja platformer. Wario's Woods: Puzzle game and the last licensed NES game in the US. SNES Games (800 Wii Points) R-Type III: Classic organic shooter from Irem. Super Castlevania IV: Simon Belmont stars in this remake of the first CV. Contra III: Shooting and platforming in one! Street Fighter II: The definitive beat-'em-up. Accept no substitute. Donkey Kong Country: Rare's platformer with high-end graphics. Super Mario World: Super. Mario. World. Come on! Zelda: Link to the Past: The only Zelda on SNES in the US. Fire Emblem: Monsho no Nazo: A classic strategy RPG. Super Mario Picross: Paint by numbers, with Mario. Genesis Games (600 Wii Points) Shadow Dancer: Ninja Hayate and his ninja dog, Yamato, beat up bad guys TurboGrafx 16 Games (600 Wii Points) Joshoken Necromancer: Horror RPG from Hudson. New Adventure Island: One of many sequels to Adventure Island. Battle Lode Runner: Sequel of Lode Runner, with a multiplayer Battle Mode. Bomberman '94: The superior version? Sega also announced that Comix Zone, Gain Ground, Bonanza Brothers, and a further 9 titles will be made available in the first quarter of 2007. Safe bet: the Streets of Rage games will be available, but only in Japan, because Sega hates us.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Well, to be fair, Genesis (YEAH I MEAN MEGADRIVE SORRY GEEKS) wasn't really popular in Japan, so I understand them charging less considering that very few games released for that system in its home country could be considered hits. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2006 I think Renegade is the only geek here who is really big on the "Megadrive" name, but in this context yeah it's understood. Super Castlevania IV is an odd choice since CV is bigger here than in Japan. However, it's reassuring that VC probably won't have a problem with Mode 7. I can't say I've ever seen games cost more at Future Shop than the EB across the street. Bottom line for me is I have a Future Shop store card and will be trying to get a Wii (which should be $279 Canadian based on a Toys R Us / Wikipedia listing I've seen) Sunday morning. Hopefully everyone else goes to the Zellers/EB across the street at the mall or down the street a bit more to Best Buy.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2006 It sucks that you have to be online to download the games since Im not gonna be able to hook it up for online. Too cheap for a wireless router? dubq 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2006 Doesn't the Wii also have an ethernet port at the back? Or was that some false info I overheard? Also: it looks like Bestbuy.ca is taking pre-orders (for in-store pickup only) on the Wii. I was going to order one, but I'm going to wait until I get back from vacation before making any big purchases.

BUTT 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2006 Well, I haven't heard anything about them offering Master System games on the VC. SMS wasn't very popular outside Europe and South America, anyway. Or was that some false info I overheard? http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/wii/wii-getti...t-on-205050.php Yeah, an "ethernet kit." It's really, really stupid. If you have a DS dongle that'll work too. Contentious statement: Master System had very few good games. Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy 1-3, the Alex Kidds, Zaxxon, R-Type, Psycho Fox, Gunstar Heroes, R-Type, Shinobi, the Game Gear Sonics, and a superior version of Double Dragon are just as good as virtually anything the TG-16 had. There are links to new Twilight Princess movies floating about the internets, but I've only watched the opening movie, as I hear the 2nd movie is loaded with spoilers. I dunno, I'd like to see the numbers on that one. CV was pretty huge across the pond. The Pacific is "the pond?" Iga's stated many times that CV is more popular in the US than in Japan, but "is" I guess isn't necessarily "always was." Japan doesn't care about Metroid, for some reason.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2006 Japan cared about Metroid back in the 80's. The first one sold over a million copies. Of course they don't care about the Prime series, because Japan has never gone for FPS games in the first place.
