Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 I didn't see a thread about it, but it's that time of year again when Apple makes the consumer feel outdated by releasing a new line of iPods. I haven't looked all that deeply into it, but the gist of is: - There's an 80GB model now - The Shuffle is roughly the size of a silver dollar - Nanos now come in 2, 4 and 8 GB models and new colors So yeah, I felt stupid when I bought the iPod Photo a year ago and the Video came out weeks later. I was waiting on the new Nanos, since I want one for the gym, but with Apple doing away with educational discounts for iPods, I'm weary. And for what it's worth, I heard Apple's selling refurbished 5th Gen iPods. The 60 GB model's going for around $230. I might just grab one of those and call it a day. Scroby 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 What are the prices?
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 16, 2006 yeah they dropped the price on all the iPods about $50, too. The 30GB one is $250 now and the 80GB is $350. Much more reasonable, I think. And I wouldn't trust ANYTHING refurbished from Apple. Wonder why they couldn't make a 60GB one for $300? Would've been nice. I don't need 80GB and $350 is too much for an mp3 player, while I don't think I'm getting enough at 30GB for $250. God I hate Apple's penchant for pricing shit into the stratosphere. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 the Nanos are outfitted like the old minis are, with the aluminum, which is nice to avoid scratches, but none of the colors are as cool as the older black Nano. The new Shuffle is pretty sexy, and tiny. it has a clip built into the back of it.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 Yeah, the Shuffles are ideal for working out with. I'd sorta miss the screen, it's not something you'd absolutely need if it's exclusively for exercise.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 I got the 60 gig color at the beginning of last summer, so I probably got it around the same time as you. I haven't filled it yet, so I'm content. I really dig the Nanos with the old mini case, though. Should help the scratches a lot. I'm very tempted to get one to take on the metro in the morning. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2006 was in the mall for lunch so thought I'd step into the Apple store. no new shuffles on display but the mini-fied Nanos were pretty sweet. The 8GB Black was the coolest. But its even lighter than the previous nanos, and I kind of feel like the sucker is almost TOO small in your hand. The touch-wheel circle is a bit too small also. the button in the center coulda been smaller for more touch-wheel-room. That center button actually curves inwards on the mini-nano, unlike the mini where the button curved outwards. Having it rounded on both top and bottom on the sides is a tad odd because it's so thin. Color hounds should eat these up though. Unfortunatly the black is only available in 8GB i think. Not that I'll be getting any of these new pods, my Mini still works fine and i won't upgrade until a real video-pod or possibly an iphone comes out. But they're still fun to mess around with and check out how "kewl" they look and feel.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2006 I bought my 30GB iPod Video about three months ago after I managed to sell my 6GB Mini. I thought about holding out on buying anything because I knew they were bound to release some new gen stuff soon, but I said the hell with it, and I couldn't be happier. Specially after a friend of mine hooked me up with this Cucusoft software for making iPod-compatible video, so now I also have a great Kiss concert downloaded and a greatest hits, so to speak, selection of Shawn Michaels matches from various dvds. And I still am about half-way from full capacity so everything's cool.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2006 I'm sure if I got a video iPod, I would barely put any videos on it. The battery life for videos is just terrible.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2006 Fuck the iPod. My Creative Zen kicks all of their asses. I have a Zen Micro 6gb and the only complaint I have is the battery life is absolutely freaking horrible..like 5 or 6 hours..its not that bad because its rechargable over the USB cable and I got an AC adapter for when Im not near a computer, but 5 hours is pretty unacceptable. Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2006 My Dell Jukebox is finally dying on me, so I'm caving and buying a new iPod video next week when I get my check. I also get a little discount since I work for Bank of America, which is sweet. The wierd thing, though, is that the tiny little iPod has the same hard drive capacity as my first desktop computer- 30 gigs. Hell, I only recently replaced that HD for a 120 gig. What I don't get is that the iPod vidor 30 gig is going for $250, while the iPod nano 8 gig is going for the exact same price. I mean, if you're going to spend $250 for an iPod, why not go a little bigger and get the video?
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 24, 2006 Apple's done that for a while. Some of their pricing doesn't really make much sense. But I think they're banking on gymrats and joggers using the nano rather than the "bulkier" regular version. You could also look at the 30gig model being $250, yet more than doubling the hard drive space for only $100 more. I was using this line of thinking when considering finally getting one, then I realized Apple will probably come out with a better iPod in a year or two, and my hard drive partition for music hasn't even filled out it's 30gig space, so I'll be cool with the smaller one for now and buy the new generation at a bigger capacity. I have a hard time giving money to Apple for that reason. However, I did find this site to be useful for the timing of buying new Apple products: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/
