One thing is for sure, now that the Dems have the house, they better well have a strategy to get something done in the next two years, because if the country is not at least headed in the direction of being somewhat turned around, then the Republicans will just pull the "See you all voted for the Dems in the house and look what they did...NOTHING" card. I almost wish that this could have been a Presidential election year instead because I think it would have been far easier for a Democrat to get elected President right now, then it will be in 2008.

I am just worried that the democratic party is so full of people that don't even agree on issues right now that it could be a big clusterfuck for the next two years. Lets face it, I don't care if they are secular progressives or moderate dems that got voted into the house tonight, the fact is this election was more like a national bitch-slap to the republicans regarding the war in iraq/the economy, and corruption, so I better not see half the democrats that got elected, cave in on voting or voting against bills having to do with the war and/or tax cuts etc etc etc over the next two years. Now that they have the house, they better be DONE with acting afraid of being called "light on terrorists" and all that other bullshit that they claim they couldn't do anything about because they were in the minority in the government. The Democrats need to get their act together and decide how they plan to act strategically for the next two years to set up what is going to be another crazy presidential race.

meh. well hopefully the democrats can put up a little bit of resistance to some of Bush's more right-wing policies, but, eh whatever. One thing though, I don't think I'll ever support one party having all 3 branches again regardless of which party it is. Thanks Republicans for making me see what a disaster that is.

The only good thing about these shows declaring someone the winner in a tight race because of exit polling is sometimes you get that "WE WON!" turn into "WHAT?!?! WHAT THE HELL?!?! CBS SAID WE HAD IT!"

It's fun seeing people treat elections like its a football game. They deserve that sudden drop when they buy the result with 10% reporting.

Smitty, what was the anti-abortion measure?

Yeah, that's great. Got any liberal editorials to derail the thread with this time?

JerkSC: Man of the people. What an embarassment. I can't wait for him to start waving his big, brainy dick around now that his various condescending opinions have been marginally validated by a small majority in the House of Representatives.

I must have missed the day you were coronated the King of Moderation.

Maybe it's just me, but this thread is becoming something of an abortion.

It isn't being a moderate, it's being realistic. While I would adore a super-duper liberal paradise in the vein of the "People's Republic of Berkeley," practical considerations have to be made. If the Democrats are more concerned with getting back at Republicans than governing I'm going to be very upset, and I'm not completely confident that governing is going to be on the agenda.

That's a personal attack, not posting for reaction. I don't want a reaction. I just like ripping on NoCalMike.

Gary: When did you turn into Czech?

I'm not complaining non-stop about Jon Steart and Olberman, and I'm not a conservative, so I'm not turning into Czech.

Wow, I actually agree with you. That was horrible. But I could watch Colbert bash nancy all day.

I think I found the quote that may have hurt the whole anti-abortion bill the most

"This is a perfect bill because it provides protection from the moment of implantation until birth," Troy Newmann, who leads the national anti-abortion group "Operation Rescue," said of the recent South Dakota law.

You know, expecting mothers may not have been big fans of you referring to whatever it is as implantation. That and the law was completely insane.

"We'll win, the truth is on our side... You never make an exception to kill a human being, never," countered Newmann.

Apparently the truth is most people thought this bill was nutball.

Maybe people should just go back to commenting about the election.

What is this "election" you speak of?

Except I don't think you need to drag me into your personal cynicism about what happens next.

I actually WANT gridlock. The Democrat's only mandate tonight is to stop Bush from doing anything else stupid. Having said that, I'm a very happy man.
