Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 For the first time I have jurty duty. I didn't care at first, but now its pissing me off. I had to call in tonight to find out if I was suppose to be there tomorrow or not and I find out that I'm call. Which means I have to call in tomorrow after 5:30 again, to find out if anything is happening with me or not. The problem is now, I have to miss two days of work because of this shit. I work early mornings to a little past noon as a delivery person and since I have to call the courts after 5:30 pm, I can't call work to let them know I can work Thursday morning if I'm not doing jury duty because our warehouse is closed and the guy who schdules the trucks to go where their suppose to go has gone home by then. So I'm basically out 200 dollars becuase of this "on call" bullshit. Anyone know how I can call the courts and tell them having me on call is costing me a lot of money? MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 You should have made it more obvious that you were a racist during the interview process.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 11, 2006 That doesn't work anymore. They'll just send you to some kind of anger management or find you in contempt of court or something.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Fine. Tell them that the accused looks like a guy that mugged you one time in '89.
Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 You should have made it more obvious that you were a racist during the interview process. I haven't even had the interview yet. I have to call before I even go to the interview. I called earlier tonight and was told I have to call again tomorrow and that I'm on call. The main problem is that I can't let work know if I can or can't work on Thursday because I'm stuck being on call. Though if I do get interviewed I was thinking about gothing up and looking emo just for a day.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Ugh, it's in General Chat. You should have let your employer know long ago that jury duty was ensuing. If you did, then it's entirely their fault.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted October 11, 2006 You're still wasting your time even with that. You can act as yourself, get a couple days off work, and determine someone's future.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Just tell them you can't miss work. 95% chance they let you go. There's usually more than enough people who'll get time paid off and be glad to do it.

Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Just tell them you can't miss work. 95% chance they let you go. There's usually more than enough people who'll get time paid off and be glad to do it. Thats what I planned on doing. I'm going to tell them I really need the money but like I said the problem lies with the fact I'm on call. When I'm suppose to call, its just a machine letting me know whats going on for the next day. When I'm schduled for a interview is when I talk to a actual person, I think. Like I said, this is my first time serving jury duty, so I have no idea how it works.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Usually, they'll have you call everyday to see if they need you. Then when you go, you'll be with a whole bunch of people and they'll only take some of you. Unless you're in Grand Jury, which I think they take everyone, and you do a ton of cases over a month span. Which really sucks.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 I had jury duty over the summer. They brought everyone into the Courthouse on one day, about 200 or so. The good thing about jury duty in my county is that they assign all the cases for a month's worth of sessions. If you aren't picked for a jury THAT DAY, you're released from your obligation. I got chosen for a DUI case that got settled a few days later before it reached trial. I was done at the courthouse by 12pm and was able to get to a Red Barons game that started at 1:30. tominator89 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 What kind of case are we talking about here? I was on a jury for a criminal case in March. We were told ahead of time that the charges included statutory rape of a male child. We were also told that if the subject matter made anyone uncomfortable to speak up. A few people, who were selected, basically said "this makes me feel uneasy" and they were excused. At the time I had nothing better to do so it was an interesting experience, however, it's really not that hard to get out of it. Just say you had a relative who experienced whatever the case is and you don't feel that you can be a fair juror.

Just say you had a relative who experienced whatever the case is and you don't feel that you can be a fair juror. That's an effective way to get out of a specific case, but it might not free you from jury duty. More likely, you'll get shuffled back into the prospective juror pool. The good thing about jury duty in my county is that they assign all the cases for a month's worth of sessions. If you aren't picked for a jury THAT DAY, you're released from your obligation. That's how it works in my state,(PA), as well. I had to report for J.D. earlier this year. I didn't get selected for a case,(As most of the people in the jury pool room didn't either. I think no one got called past 10:00 a.m. We still all had to say there until 3:00p.m.,though.), but because I still had to report that day, I can't be called again for 3 more years. It got me out of my job, which I hate, so it wasn't that bad.
Chazz 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2006 So what should I do to get out of this? Maybe say you don't have reliable transprtation to take you to and from the courthouse, as well as nobody that can take you to and from the courthouse. You could always just skip out, as many people did when I had J.D. I've heard some people say they skipped out and nothing ever happened to them. Of course if you go this route you could be heavily fined or thrown in jail for contempt of court. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is how badly to you want to get out of j.d.?
